This is a follow-up to my first video, My HIV/AIDS Story. Follow me on a trip to my doctor's office to review my most recent blood work, an explanation on how PARTNER NOTIFICATION failed me 100%, my experience with telling others who had been in contact with me and why I feel the need to be upbeat about my diagnosis.

I know that you have put so much information out there about HIV and cleared up MANY misconceptions that other have. I wasn't paying attention to that section of the first video, but you should add the disclaimer about women-men transmission somewhere if you haven't already because not everyone will watch this second video. To be honest Lakenzie, I'm sticking with what I said in my first video. After being highly connected to the HIV community for over a year now, I have only come across about 10 to 15 hetero men who have contracted the virus from a woman (vs hundreds of gay men and nearly 100 women). Not one of the almost 250 women on my HIV+ private page are aware of transmitting it to any man and many were having unprotected sex with their boyfriends when they were diagnosed. My boyfriend was exposed to me when my viral load was 507,000 and he's negative. I recently had a comment from a man whose wife was positive and they had unprotected sex for 20 years and he didn't get it. It's rare to say the least for a man to contract it from a woman. It can happen, but it's very uncommon. First of all, the concentration of HIV is lowest in vaginal secretions; semen and blood being MUCH higher and men are just built differently. If they are uncircumsized and/or have another STD and they are exposed, their risk is increased because there is a way for the virus to possibly make through via a mucous membrane, but without that scenario, we're talking about it somehow penetrating sensitive cells in the tip of the penis or it going up the urethra (both are considered low exposure). It doesn't even come close to comparing to anal/vaginal sex where blood and semen are involved. They are 2 different animals altogether. I would like to do a video about this because straight men are the ones who worry the most and have insane HIV phobia and they are truly the least likely to ever contract the virus even if they are exposed.

Ankit Shah and also do not have sex with prostitutes because you're putting yourself at high risk regardless if you use a condom or not because they can break and is not 100% safe nothing is 100% safe but condom is good to use yes. Also, prostitutes have sex with multiple people and sometimes they don't use condoms or you don't know how they contract HIV even through drug usage so do not have sex with prostitutes and I'm not saying only prostitutes have HIV either anyone can have HIV you can be not a prostitute and have HIV so just be safe regardless if you have a sex with a prostitute or not.

MyLocPLUG VeganJourney - If you cared to research the HIV statistics and demographics you would learn that less than 0.1% of female sex workers are HIV+ as opposed to around 8 -10% of all gay men. Consider this, gay men make up only 2 - 3% of the population yet account for 70 - 80% of all new HIV infections. Furthermore among heterosexually transmitted cases, almost all are in the regular partners of infected people with high viral loads (usually because one partner does not know they have it) after months or years of repeated exposures. I guess what I am trying to say is your comments on prostitutes and the risk of obtaining HIV through them is completely unfounded.

Do you realize that nursing school has barely any info on HIV except that it is a blood borne pathogen? We shouldn't have to go back to school and learn anything. Jennifer is very informed and knowledgable about this subject. Just knowing the bare basics doesn't help you take care of a patient with any disease.

Not saying she is not knowledgeable but, I have been a peer educator in the community for almost 20 yrs now and received all of my training thru CDC and health department literature along with actual docs conducting info sessions. I say all that to say you can find concrete info from other places than relying on a youtuber 🤔😶

I was watching the Freddie Mercury story, and your story popped up. I actually clicked it on a whim. I just want to say thank you. Thank you for having the courage to share your story and your life. Thank you for educating those of us (er..me) in how far treatment has come, and showing that absolutely there is life after a diagnosis like this. And thank you for putting a face to a disease that shows exactly what you said...you're a "normal" lady living a normal life. And this diagnosis can (does) happen to anyone. Lastly when you mention there are many other diseases that can be worse, that's very true. My hubby has MS and Addisons disease. I have Lupus. But as my guy reminds me, "everyone has a story...and things will work out just as they're supposed to.". I'm sorry this is so long, but I just felt compelled to tell you that trite as this sounds, you're an amazing gal. Please make more videos when you have time.

Girl....you are so precious and so brave. Your strength and courage really shines through, and the info and experience that you've shared is valuable. I contracted HPV through a partner a couple of yrs ago, didn't know until my recent diagnosis of cervical cancer. Thank you so much for your story. My son also has HIV & I must admit it was a very traumatic time for him & myself. He is 46 & was diagnosed nearly 3 years ago. He is on medication & undetectable. His T cell count is still quite low but gradually increasing. Listening to your journey I realised test he had many if your symptoms & lost a lot if weight. The only thing worth while telling them is to be on PREP if they are going to have sex with people and test every 6 months. Have your long term partners tested very 6 months together so you can see whats the reality.

I happened to see your channel as I was searching for videos about Shanann Watts. For some reason, I was drawn to your very first video. I’m a 63 year old mother of 3 and grandmother of 10. I’m having heartbreaking problems with my 2 daughters. They are 41 and 45. We lost our son when he was 17 in 1998. I don’t know if our family can recover from this loss. My daughters have mental health issues. At this time, they won’t talk to me and it’s tearing me apart. I think when you are smelling cigarette smoke and other scents, it’s because there is the spirit of someone you know around you. After our son died, we were smelling roses for a long time, even in the winter when there weren’t any flowers around. He died in the fall. My son knew how much I loved roses. Still, to this day, my husband smells cigarette smoke when he’s working., but it doesn’t happen often. He’s alone in his truck when it happens. My son smoked, but my husband and I never have. Try to think if this could be why you are smelling different things out of no where. I would think that someone you love would be around you especially when you are in any kind of pain, mentally or physically. I think you’re are amazing for sharing your story. I admire you so very much. I’m SO happy for you and your children that you are healthy again. I believe that God intended you to do this for people, to educate the ignorant people and to get rid of the stigma of this illness. Too many people are cruel out of ignorance and the inability to feel compassion and empathy. I never knew that someone with this horrible virus could live a normal life. I too cry when I think about all the people that suffered so much as they were dying. But I believe their deaths were the reason so many kept working to find the right treatment so that others could live a normal life. Only their bodies died. Their spirit did not. I’ve always believed that each one of us is here to serve a purpose, that we all have a job to do. It was such a pleasure to meet you.❤️

My cousin is HIV positive. He was diagnosed before the miracle drugs were available. He has to walk with assistance now, due to his terrible neuropathy. But he is alive. I also had a really great friend, almost like a brother, who had AIDS. He passed away from something else. But we hated to see him go through the disease process. You are a very brave woman. I don’t know how I would tell people, either. I’m so relieved that you were given so much suppppet. I know that you must feel extremely blessed. Thanks for all of the great information.

But it's been a scare before when I wasn't the most careful. Esp swollen glands in my neck, but that was my allergic reactions. G'day Jennifer, I have just finished watching your videos and thank you so much for your strength & oourage. I have been diagnosed with cervical cancer and after two rounds of chemo, intense radiotherapy, brachiotherapy I hardly feel human anymore. Living with the side effects is something that is not common knowledge and something I am finding difficult to cope with, but the strength you have shown is something that has given me a little boost of positivity. I went from a young, vibrant & active 52 year old single mum, finding joy in everyday of my life, to an old, feeble, sedentary woman barely able to get through each day. I have had my whole life turned completely upside down and it is a struggle to get through each day. Thank you once again for sharing your journey and I am so happy that I stumbled across your videos. I wish you much happiness and continued good health.

Venice Mackay I cannot stress this enough!!!! Thankfully I haven’t ever contracted anything because my ex of 7 years who I thought I was in a serious monogamous relationship with...and that my daughter and I lived with, had been cheating on me the last two and a half years of our relationship. A friend of mine suspected and used the internet to confirm her suspicions, unbeknownst to me and found disturbing stuff almost immediately. I was blindsided. Also, going back knowing what I then knew before the last girl...he was using Work travel to sleep with many women. Because we had committed and went and got checked for STD’s & HIV in the first six months of our relationship, I thought it was safe not to use condoms since I was on birth control...I will NEVER make that mistake again. That experience was so traumatizing to me that I have abstained now for 3 years and I have no regrets about it.

With HIV trust isn’t going to protect you. You can have two very honest sexual partners, who both fully admit to their sexual history in the past year, both readily disclose current infection test results, and still you’re not “safe.” It can take up to six months for HIV to show on a test. Your best bet is to have a convo about sexual history and then make a choice whether you’re willing to accept the risks of sleeping with a person with those behaviors. Unfortunately though people rarely have these responsible convos and when you try to bring it up they are evasive or think you are killing the mood

I think your videos should become educational material for schools, you are one brave woman and I respect you so much!!! Although I don't have HIV/AIDS, I am sure anyone that's sexually active, or have had sex in their lives before.. Probably all had the what if thoughts at some point. Sorry but I don’t believe that your Ex thought the clinic was going to tell you. HIV is so serious that you have to make sure anyone you might have exposed knows. Even if he wanted to avoid you he should have at least followed up with the clinic to confirm they notified you. Btw You seem like a really good person, good luck to you.

In Europe, the clinic will only contact the person who got tested positive. No call backs to Hiv- people, let alone the partners of the Hiv+

Right? I met my husband in 2006 and in about 2009 he was contacted by an ex of his that had tested positive and they told him he should be tested. Being that he was with me now, he told me about it. We were tested together and thank god we both tested negative.

About that ex that gave her HIV. Dont let that guy off that easy. HE knew that he had been engaging in high risk behavior. Why didnt HE get himself tested before HE slept with her? I mean, right when he knew they were moving in that direction, go get tested. Make sure you havent done ANYTHING risky in at least 8 months to a year and get tested more than once. Any time ive started a relationship and i wasnt sure of my status, i go and get tested. It would absolutely murder my soul to know I gave someone something like this. I couldnt live with myself. Also, i request test results in writing from the doctor as to her status.

I just wanted to add some information in regard to your heart rate and fever. For every 1 degree increase in body temperature (over your normal) your heart rate will increase by 10bpm. For instance if your normal body temp was 98.6 °F and normal resting heart rate was 82bpm and you spiked a fever of 103.6° F, then your new heart rate would be around 132bpm. As long as the rate is just fast and there is no arrhythmia its sinus tachycardia secondary to fever and will be alleviated when the fever is treated. Hope this helps :)

Same thing happened to Eazy E Eric Wright. He probably acquired the disease in 93 or 94 and was showing symptoms in summer of 94 and of course passed away in early 95. The filmmakers made the disease look pretty scary towards the end of the film, but of course he'd be alive had they had the same medical technology as today. I'm very happy for you that you're healthy and able to educate people about the disease and I'm especially happy for your children that they have their awesome momma around.

It is horrible because although Aids is manageable in North America with access to medicine and health insurance, it is a death sentence in places such as Africa, India and Thailand.
