I was then told they did a hiv test and i came reactive. I can still hear the Drs voice and the feeling of emptiness in my stomach. I wanted to end my life at that moment. I had no symptoms. I got tested because I kept hearing that the guy I had been with had it for a long time before we ever got together and he knew he had it. After I broke up with him, he was gloating that he gave it to me. Luckily word got back to me but denial is a powerful thing and I waited a year to get tested. I can definitely relate to facing stigma from hiv. I've been poz since 2002. I was 19 then when someone intentionally infected me. I never thought I'd ever meet someone so evil. To those just finding out, you will live a long life. I've had it almost 20 years and I've been undetectable for the 18 years that I've been on meds. I just wish it wasn't such hell on dating! Not like I could accidentally give it to anyone since undetectable equals untransmittable. Wish ppl were educated about it. It's not so bad though really. Don't give up on your hopes and dreams in life and you'll live a normal life!

I fear getting tested. I'm a heterosexual male and I use Japanese polyurethane condoms during my time with sw all the time. I won't have fun unless it's with a condom. I avoid sw who offer services with no condoms as well. Lately I have this irrational fear that I have contracted HIV even though the condom was intact a week ago. My risk should be minimal, I'm heterosexual so I am the insertive one and I wore a condom so my risk should be non existent but I feel different since my last encounter and I wonder if I am losing my mind and I am afraid because I can't deal with a life change and I did the best to protect myself.

I recommend that you get tested regularly especially because your lifestyle puts you at high risk due to multiple partners regardless of wearing condoms. How can you fear the results of your behaviors yet enjoy your behaviors in the heat of the moment? It's contradictory. In other words if we feel that we are adult enough to live the way we want to live, then we must also be adults in holding ourselves accountable to our patterns. Wishing much peace and good health. ❤

@@meandhiv Thank for being so brave and telling your story. I was infected with HIV last year. A crime was committed against me on a bus here in NYC. The guy sitting behind me in a bus poked me with something in my back. I didn't check it out within the 72hrs, so I end up with HIV

How long after potential exposure did you get tested? Some tests have different exposure windows. I'd maybe suggest another test if you're worried
