80's was more diverse, but the 90's was the last dying breath of freedom in music. Hopefully Tiktok(barf), youtube ,and other social media can help break the music industries strangle hold.

@@tric5122 Not likely in the current climate unfortunately. These technologies may take a lot of power out of the hands of the big music companies but the people themselves are now more than ready to police it for "offensive" content. This video itself is a great example, it would certainly be cancelled in today's political climate because of the part where they drug the women and carry them off. The fact that they do the same thing to a bunch of other people would not matter.

Damn straight! Everyone I knew from age 8-25 and if you went to any school elementary to HS you would hear this song loudly be played at some point in the day and most likely it would be on repeate. Being creative was a necessity and we honed that skill early because the amount of fun and things to do were in direct correlation to how creative/inventive a person was. Now....now being creative has been warped, muted and shaped into a hollow and stunt shell of itself. I'm in no way saying everything ppl created back then was brilliant I give credit for ppl taking risks and pushing the envelope many times with not very much.

If you go back to the opening sequence of the video, you see monkeys in cages and being forced to perform on command. Then if you go to the end of the video, you see people in cages and being forced to perform on command. From there, there are lots of different messages you can take from that.

There are several reasons why this video wouldn't be made today. Imagine if it was made today, Me Too and several others would be stomping on these guy's necks. There was no such thing as "cancel culture" in the 90s. The only thing we canceled was our BMG subscription if we wanted to switch to Columbia House and we rarely did that! Either you loved the content that was being put out or you didn't. If you didn't, you know what you did? You changed the channel. Personally I still love this song and video. Loved it then and love it now. I remember seeing it for the first time on MTV in the spring of 1999 which was a dominant year for music and movies in general to close out the millennium. I'm talking about the REAL MTV when they played nothing but heat!! Back when MTV was great to watch. Thats why we should appreciate, worship, and remember 90s music and culture because it will never be the same as it was back then. The way things are today, not a damn chance.

Back when this song originally came out, it was mostly either on radio, or streamed over something like Napster or LimeWire on home computers as audio only files. Sometimes just hearing the song first(from the 70's, 80's, and a lot of 90's and some early early 2000) , and then watching the music video afterwards can sometimes be just as surprising or thought provoking... I really enjoy the genuine reactions and how you approach all different music & videos with an open mind. The time and attention to detail you pour into each video is apparent and appreciated. I enjoy each video, and the positivity and genuine interaction all the way to the end, I know takes a LOT of time and attention to fine details to pull off. Keep up the great videos, and thank you.

No, the video EXACTLY correlates to the song! You’re missing the silly nuance! He’s say “you and me baby ain’t nothing but mammals” and we are very close to monkeys in dna, so they dressed like monkeys. The next line “so let’s do IT like they do on Discovery channel” like the Discovery channel shows animals in their natural habitat doing IT. And he’s in the street dressed like our closest mammals creatures and wants to do IT in their natural habitat with the beautiful women they see in the city, our current natural habitat.
