Indeed. I appreciate it so much that Sceez is not using hood vocabulary like "see what I mean" and other meaningless placeholders. I love it so much that he stops and rewinds to express his feelings and thoughts. He's got a great sensibility. And I don't care if it is a little too enthusiastic and explosive, because at least it's enthusiastic. I'd like to meet this guy, I'm sure we have good times with him.

More Dexter references on his song Slaughterhouse. Brilliant reaction, you really get Ren. Yeah Ren is a musical chameleon, the Swiss Army Knife of Music. Ren was born March 1990.

I think the line "I got soul in my bowl when I eat" is a reference to a restaurant in his home town of Brighton, Mama Sherrie's Soul Food Shack - they had a mixed plates promotion named "soul in a bowl".

I've watched so many reactions to this video, and people really sleep on that last line cause they're listening to the beat boxing or talking about the previous lines. But that last line is really worth unpacking. "Teach on these streets. Streets can be bleak. But bleak was the place where I rose to my feet" People either get beat down by the bleakness of life or they rise to their feet, and a precious few dont just rise, they teach others how to do it too. The amount of layers in Ren's music is mind blowing 🤯

I've been watching your reactions and subbed forever, and love the energy/enthusiasm, deep feeling, vulnerability/openness and sharp observations of your videos (among other things about the reactions I love)...and this reaction is one of my favorites. Part of this is to do with Ren, part is to do with you, and part is to do with my own ego, because it's fun that you come out with the same thoughts and feelings as I do at the same moment I'm thinking and feeling them. Speaking of thoughts, this may sound weird, but I know you love Chris Stapleton, and he and Ren are up there among my top few favorite artists, and I'm wondering if you see, as I do, similarities between them, weird as this may seem. One similarity is in something you touched on somewhere around the 9 minute mark here-- the fact that it's obvious from his music that Ren is steeped in all kinds of music. For me, that's true with Chris too. They both have the same profound, life-filling love of music that has led them to immerse themselves in many genres, becoming students of those genres at such a deep level that they infiltrate their music-- usually multiple genres within one number (when you mentioned the Ren's jazziness in The Big Push, I like to've dropped my drink, because you're one of only two people besides me who I've heard speak that thought-- he even scats in the "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/etc." mashup. Another similarity I see: the down-to-the-bone honesty/authenticity of both of them, which is 100% reflected and expressed in both their music...from their subject matter and lyrics to their musical choices (e.g., when to scat, when to growl, when to riff or do a run, when to push the notes out straight, etc.). Also-- seems to me they both have a message, and both are teachers, though Stapleton is less direct/overt in this, and his has less to do with the particular songs and lyrics (though that's certainly part of it) and more to do with the integrity, humility and generosity he and his way of singing and playing embody (all this being part of Ren's message, offered in the same ways, but Ren is also direct, writing songs that themselves carry an explicit, rather than an implicit message...which, as you pointed out, goes down easy because of the way he packages it). Basically, both are teachers...and preachers...in ways both similar to each other and different...and both, due to their love of music that's led their lives to be about that, have incredible range and versatility, with each song bringing a new side of them and their musical tools. There are others, as well, imho, but this comment is already way long, so I'll end now, after I say THANK YOU for pouring everything you've got into your reactions--heart, brain, energy, honesty and more. Much appreciated and much enjoyed!
