The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Always do your due diligence before considering another job. If it makes sense to part ways then by all means do it! However, just make sure you take all things into account in order to make the best decision possible. #trucking #truckdriver

I was a beer guy for 23 years ,went to pfg looking for the more money that I was told I could be getting . Took a chance gave up 5 weeks vacation ,3rd in seniority , beautiful truck and equipment always, 3 day weekends bc 4 day work week. Found out after I got to pfg i wasn't gonna have a route ,gonna be a sub guy or helper on trucks. The more money that I left for was looking like a long ways away and working 5 days a week instead of 4 for it 2. I also had to share a truck the equipment wasn't as nice and trailers were often late and came up with a flat tire on a few occasions. I was sitting with a flat tire that took 6 hrs to get me on the road , no lie , and during that time my old boss from beer place hmu and offered me job back like I never left ,more money all my vacations back ,seniority ,route back , 3 day weekends and don't have to merchandise, so I went back. ......I got very lucky , I was not liking new job at all . I'm not gonna be worried about more money ever again I was already making plenty !!!!!

I’ve been at ABF freight for almost 18 years I like it a lot local pedal driver. It’s rough starting out especially back then when there was a ton of union companies to go to you have to accumulate seniority things changed drastically after that. It’s like that in an onion company as well but the layoffs are very prevalent in a unionized company that’s how they save money. A lot of guys don’t stick it out some certainly aren’t in the position where they can. I went and got another job on the side nice thing about the union you put a 40 hour letter in where they can’t disrupt your other job unless they have full-time work they have to give you two weeks to return.

@imanthonytv
@imanthonytv Жыл бұрын
In your situation I would first talk to the transportation mgr and let them know you’re interested in becoming a driver & what’s the best way to go about obtaining my CDL? They might be able to help expedite the whole process by possibly teaching you in house after obtaining your permit. Download the CDL PREP app by Jeffery Diaz on your phone & study. Once you’ve crushed the practice quizzes and you feel like you’re ready to take the general knowledge portion just head to your local DMV. Once you pass the test they’ll give you your permit & then all you would need is to pass your road test & DOT physical (medical card) to get your CDL. Once you have your permit US foods may help train you on driving the truck so you’ll be prepared to take a road test at the DMV. If not you’ll have to find a local trucking school or community college that offer training. Good luck 👍🏾

Abf is a great company but the ultimate downside with union companies is seniority. You will be at the bottom and on call and starved out until you gain some time. A union job is a young man’s game because if you have your own responsibilities you won’t make it. I’m currently dealing with that now.

Yeah, I believe those guy’s are really making money. I also feel you on the trucking isn’t the end all be all for you. I feel the same way. It’s definitely not something I’m passionate about but I don’t hate it.

Hey Anthony my name is Lawrence I would pay you 200 dollars or more just to learn how you flipped and made money on eBay that you showed in your community post earlier. I just would like to know. If you have time. I am a fast learner I just gotta have the steps. Please sir Thank you. I could send it through cash app. Is it really a good source of passive income?

Bro I would love to make that $200 by showing you the steps but honestly all the information you need is literally on KZbin for FREE! It’s a very simple process. However, if you still would like to pay me for the information just send me an email & we’ll discuss it further. Good luck bro!

Gotta call BS on your video bro. If you’re gonna give career advice to truckers at least do some research. The pay between GFS and ABF is virtually the same. The difference is GFS is not unionized and does not offer a retirement pension plan. They only offer a 401k. ABF is unionized, they offer a full health benefits package, a 401k AND a guaranteed pension to every driver. The health benefits and pension plans equal approximately $30k per year alone and costs the employee very little per month compared to what a non-union employee pays for their healthcare plan each month out of their paycheck. So in the end, ABF makes WAY more and they have a guaranteed pension AND retirement healthcare plan that will provide them a paycheck and health insurance every year after they retire and it only stops when they die of old age. Your non-union 401k will eventually run out of money and you’ll have to pay huge premiums out of your own pocket for healthcare once you retire (if you can even afford to retire). If you’re not working for a unionized company in trucking, you are most certainly LOSING money and your retirement will most certainly suck compared to the union driver.

What are you calling BS on bro? The video was solely based on a driver who started working for GFS and then left GFS to work for ABF. The driver eventually left ABF to return back to GFS. According to him he was making more money at GFS. Everybody’s situation is different. I’m not saying one company is better than the other. I believe ABF is a good company. Speaking on doing your research, you might need to take your own advice. GFS also has profit sharing which is something you neglected to mention. There’s a ton of obvious bias in your comment. The things I stated in my video came from an individual who experienced working for both companies. Period. Furthermore, just because the company is unionized doesn’t make the company better. We all saw what happened with YRC. Despite what you may think, not everyone looks at “unions” as being a benefit. In regards to retirement, I believe an individual should have investment accounts in addition to 401Ks, Roth’s, etc and not solely rely on traditional retirement accounts to supplement their lifestyle when it’s time to hang it up.

@@imanthonytv 401k’s are garbage bro. Ted Benna is a CEO who created the idea of a 401k and lobbied to get it codified into the IRS rules. He now calls it a monster that needs to be blown up. Roth’s are garbage too with a max contribution of $7k annually and you can’t make more than $150k per year to be eligible for one. These retirement systems are designed to keep you broke later in life. The pension is the only benefit that pays reliably until the day you die. Nothing is guaranteed, but one thing is: more 401k’s have gone dry than pensions have in the last 30 years. Yellow went down due to corporate greed. The corporate news networks want you to believe it was the unions, which is exactly why you should believe the opposite. Your little profit sharing benefit works out to be Pennie’s on the dollar in retirement bud. Do some research on that. Who’s gonna pay for your healthcare when you retire? YOU! What source of income will you rely on when your 401k dries up or the market losses crush your investments? Social security? The other failing system? Lol!!!! These corporations have convinced you that their boot on your neck is good for you.
