Let’s take Caicedo as an example. Chelsea has their strikers high up the pitch, and their defenders are deep because ThiagoSilva is slow, so they can’t push their defensive line forward. This creates a huge gap in the midfield for Caicedo to cover. Is it easier to defend a 8*8 yard spaces or a space that is 10 times the size of a standard football pitch? The system is making him to do an almost impossible task. Of course Caicedo would look bad. Passing, dribbling, assist and goals are the same. Passing is more about passing options and how close your teammates are more than about your passing accuracy. If everyone is far from you, all being marked, you would not have good passing stats no matter how good a passer you are. You want to make substitutions to change the game? No chance. Southgate has created a poor situation for the players to play in. So nothing will be change no matter who the substitutions are.

Make a change?😂 People are focusing on the wrong things to criticise. Who is Southgate picking? This might be a problem. But it is NOTHING compare to the rubsh system. England cheapest player on the pitch is probably worth more than the whole Slovakia starting eleven. They should be able to win easily regardless of who is starting. No subs is going to save them. Because they play with a rubsh system.
