Teddy Atlas: Usyk could be a threat to anyone in any era. Genuflecting to American fighters from the past is now a thing of the past. Boxing now is truly a Global contest; American dominance was partly due to so much of the rest of the world still behind, in the sport, that day is All gone! Usyk should be mentioned as one of the greatest, not just as a "modern Day" Heavy or Cruser weight, but possibly the best in any Day.

And tons more, Ali beat everyone from his era, from the quick fighters to hard punchers, he isn’t hyped for just his personality yk? What else Usyk needs to do to be recognised as the best ever? Modern heavyweights are physical monsters - Chisora, Dubois, Joshua, Fury. You have a cruiserweight who went into the monsters division and slayed them all. Muhammad Ali? He was phenomenal, but he is far from being complete fighter. 60's Ali was incredibly fast, but he lacked strong chin and was knocked down by Sonny Banks and Henry Cooper. 70's Ali, although being knocked down 2 more times (vs Frazier and vs Wepner), was more resilient, but had lost his 60's speed. The 70's Ali absorbed so much punishment due to the "rope-a-dope" that eventually he suffered a brain damage. Mike Tyson? Mike Tyson was 177 cm tall and he himself admitted he wouldn't stand any chance against the Klitschko brothers. He was extremely explosive fighter, but as the rounds went on his explosiveness diminished. We the exception of maybe Frank Bruno, Tyson never defeated other great fighters in their prime as Usyk did multiple times - Holmes was nearly 40 yo, Spinks was 33 and retired after Tyson match. Not only that, but Buster Douglas knocked out prime Mike Tyson in 1990. And when he returned to boxing being 29 yo, he never got back his previous shape. Usyk on the other hand is still going strong at 38 yo (next month). The longevity of Usyk is phenomenal. Lennox Lewis? He was stopped by Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman, who were nowhere near Usyk's level. Evander Holyfield had similar career path, but his defence was not on the same level as Usyk's. Rocky Marciano? He never fight against someone like Usyk who moves all the time. On the other hand, Usyk fought against some very hard punchers and defeated them.

@@Hutchmuchhutchmuch6584 You know very little about boxing apparently kiddo. A prime Mike Tyson had absolutely no problems cutting distance vs anyone's style of any era and destructively countering pawing jabs (something Usyk does consistently) after a slip, a bob or a weave was muscle memory for Mike, it was literally automatic. Dont let Tyson vs Paul fool you kiddo, prime Mike wasnt a mofo you played around with. That dude was an animal and a machine. Slow your casual roll bro, just a little advice. Mike literally had quicker feet (facts), reflexes and handspeed that Oleksande, was a combination puncher and he was 3xs a more prolific body puncher than DuBois and Furry. Usyk I wish You all the best in Future You are the Greatest!

Usyk is a modern-day great, but not an all-time great - Duke got it spot on! Usyk has certainly made a strong case for being considered among the top heavyweights in history, but whether he cracks the top 20 all-time is still up for debate. His skill set, footwork, and technical ability are exceptional, and his success at cruiserweight before stepping up to dominate at heavyweight is impressive. However, today's heavyweight division isn't as deep or competitive as in past eras. While Usyk’s victories over Joshua and potentially Fury are significant, some might argue that he hasn’t faced the same calibre of competition as legends like Ali, Tyson, Lewis, or Foreman. Still, it’s hard to ignore that he’s thriving in an era where competition, skill, boxing IQ and technique are lacking. If Usyk continues dominating and securing more big wins, he could earn a spot in the top 20. For now, he’s certainly the most talented heavyweights of this generation by far!

Mhm every generation thinks their boxers are bestest shite ever and those new age dudes are a joke. Comparing different eras of boxing while average boxer height and weight has changed significantly is pretty counter productive. It's pretty clear that someone with 6'6 frame and alot more weight won't move and fight like boxers from 90's and down. Saying that ring IQ isn't there anymore while many of those current day heavyweight are being trained by trainers who were active allready back then is kind of funny. Ring tactics change as do sizes and strenghts of opponents it pretty simple concept. What people think when saying that there's not enough fighters in heavyweight they mean there's not enough american fighters, cause most of them know nothing about international competition nor take any interest in what really goes down in division as whole. Many fights between top 10 dudes could not exist cause nobody really cares buy pay per views for stuff like that. Boxing was all in tv back in the day on the nose that's why it seems it was so busy and nothing happenes nowdays.

If Usyk don’t want to turn down the gloves, I would really love a dance between - Wilder vs Usyk (This would be ultimate war of attrition) Raw power vs 🥊 I consider in order to reach the undisputed status - the trilogy must be completed of this era of heavyweight! Joshua ✅ Fury ✅ Wilder … Also it would be great for boxing world wide is another Ali trophy for heavyweights division… let all the top compete again for glory and not just money!

There is no evidence that he is the best boxer ever. In 2024, he won against 36-year-old Tyson Fury, who fought against Ngannou in 2023, and a real boxer, Chisora, in December 2022, and then retired. He didn't fight the likes of Donovon Razor Ruddock, Tyson, Lewis, Frazier and Foreman. And if you include middleweight fighters: Duran, Haggler, Hearns, and sugar.

I love Usyk, he is my favorite current fighter. But not only is nobody unbeatable, nobody is unbeatable by only a single style. Also, he has not been nearly the most dominant fighter at HW, with some close fights. Just imagine Fury was in better shape. Even if still 36, he easily could have won right? I want Usyk to continue getting victories for himself & Ukraine, what Russia is doing to them is Monstrous. However, boxing is a fame of inches, & we could get guys just a bit better than they were, who could win. I never figured out exactly what to think of the "low blow" fight of Usyk. WAS that a legitimate low blow?

He's the only undisputed heavyweight and cruiserweight champion with Gold Medals in the Olympics and World Championships. Hasn't been beaten or knocked out. Ali was beaten badly by Frazier close to his prime, Frazier was KO'd badly by Foreman close to his prime and Foreman got dismantled by Ali in his prime. Lewis got chinned by bums in his prime. Mike Tyson lost every competitive fight he had. No other weight allows you to fight someone 50lbs heavier than you, Usyk is top 3 (Minimum, only Ali really has a case to be better) greatest heavyweights of all time, top 2 greatest cruiserweights of all time (only Holyfield can be argued) and therefore the greatest boxer of all time. Holyfield wasn't the best heavyweight of his time, Usyk is. Ali wasn't the best cruiserweight of his time, Usyk is. His CV makes him undeniably the best boxer, doing it all undefeated is crazy.

Soviet Boxing Style: Philosophy and Training: Emphasis on systematized, rigorous training programs focused on producing well-rounded boxers. Heavy reliance on scientific approaches to sports, with detailed study and application of biomechanics and physiology. Fighters were trained to be versatile, adapting to their opponents' weaknesses. Technical Focus: Stress on precise technique and structured combinations. Defensive strategies often involved movement-based evasion (sidesteps, pivoting) and counterpunching. Preferred a balance between offense and defense, ensuring sustainability across rounds. Physical Preparation: Intense physical conditioning with a focus on endurance and strength. Training camps often centralized under state control, where boxers from different regions were molded into a unified style. Mentality: Boxers were trained to prioritize teamwork and national representation over individual recognition. Discipline and resilience were central values. Ukrainian Boxing Style: Philosophy and Training: More individualized approach compared to the Soviet era, with focus on personal strengths and creativity. Strong influence from the Soviet foundation but with modernized, flexible methods. Training often incorporates advanced techniques tailored to global trends in boxing. Technical Focus: Ukrainian boxers are known for their exceptional footwork and angles, heavily influenced by Vasyl Lomachenko and others. Emphasis on creating openings through feints, rapid combinations, and unique movement patterns. A higher reliance on reflexes, agility, and innovative in-ring strategies. Physical Preparation: Balanced approach with equal importance given to power, agility, and endurance. Use of advanced sports science and technology, including video analysis and personalized fitness plans. Mentality: Ukrainian boxers often demonstrate a focus on showmanship and tactical brilliance, with an aim to dominate not only physically but also mentally. Independence and individuality are celebrated, reflecting broader cultural changes post-Soviet era. Key Examples: Soviet Era Icon: Konstantin Tszyu represented the disciplined, methodical Soviet approach. Ukrainian Innovators: Vasyl Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk epitomize the modern Ukrainian style with fluid movement and creative offense.
