Groovy and crunchy at the same time! Danzig wrote "Mother" in response to the moral panic over rock music that had Middle-America in a tizzy for a while in the late eighties. The U.S. Senate even held hearings on the subject. Frank Zappa, John Denver, and Dee Snider of Twisted Sister testified. To settle the dust the music industry agreed to put "Parental Advisory" warning stickers on albums containing material potentially unsuitable for children. I suspect those stickers only served to attract more youthful attention to the "forbidden music" as if often the case in free societies following efforts to censor art.

Danzig is not an artist - he's a fascistic dwarf who writes rape/infanticide-celebrating lyrics.
@Urizen77710 ай бұрын
Kudos to Frank Zappa, many rockers from that time didn't bother to even show up. And those "parental advisory" albums were the best! Made my childhood truly fulfilled.

There is limited edition single, in a scull shape. A friend gave it to me as a birthday-present. And there you can find the best live-version of mother (Irvine Meadows 10/31/1992). The price for that shape-disc is well grown and it is now worth around 100$ - 150$ in mint condition. I am glad to own this disc.

This song originally came out in 1988. There was a very controversial video for it that MTV refused to play. So the song was a bit ignored at the time. In 1993 Danzig put out an EP (an Extended Player, which has more songs than a single but less than an album) with a live version of Mother. The record company took the original studio version and put a live audience sound to it but it wasn’t the live version on the EP. So this song isn’t live, but the song on the record is. It was very popular in 93 and a lot of people discovered Danzig then but he had been putting out records since 1977. He was in a band called The Misfits that every punk and metal fan knew of, and then in a band called Samhain that later became Danzig. Most recently he put out an album of Elvis songs.

Thanks Fay. Also, Glenn Danzig used to sing for a band named "The Misfits," before Danzig. The Misfits had a song called "Hatebreeders," which is where the band Hatebreed got their name.

@ 5'3 inches Glenn is a very small guy with a deep baritone vocal and he looks bigger on screen as he performs live. Danzig made his start in the great band the Misfits and went off solo after they broke up.

After the Misfits he started Samhain, a unique band with a dark primal feel. That band eventually became Danzig and has had several personnel changes over the years.
