For context, he has a negative net spend (profit) of 17 million over 3 years. So I don’t understand Juls’ conception that he was heavily backed by the board. All the players that he signed in the first window are all unavailable to him this season. They either left the club and Tammy has an ACL. For two years the only player they actually bought was Celik for 7 Million. The rest were injury prone free agents & loan signings that the parent clubs didn’t want. Before you mention the wage bull, the wages were given by the previous director Monchi who grossly overpaid for average players. He lured the likes of Dybala & Lukaku who have said themselves that they joined for Mourinho, let’s be real they wouldn’t have joined Roma if it wasn’t for him. Led them to two European finals. Lost one on PK'a after 2 shocking decisions by the referee a blatant penalty & red card. Was sacked when he was 5 points from top 4 & in the UEL knockouts. I get maybe people like Juls who support Arsenal & PSG don’t like Mourinho for the hurt he has caused their clubs but you have to be objective as a journalist.

You have to be objective as a person and not be delusional, Roma spent 100m in his first season more than anyone in Italy and he finished 6th, third highest wage bill in Italy and they’re in 9th closer in points to 18th than third, he’s the highest paid coach in Roma history and highest in Italy. "5 points from UCL spot" is technically true but flattering, since the Top 3 teams are running away with it this year. Roma are 13 points from Milan in 3rd and has 8w,5d,7l. And the football they play is unwatchable. At least with Fonseca they would occasionally put on a brilliant display.

You’re clearly a Roma fan, as I am. But the difference is that you can’t evaluate Mourinho’s performance objectively. Yes, he won the conference league, for which we will be forever grateful. But, he massively underperformed in Serie A, with a ratio of of 1.6 points per game, the worst of any Roma’s manager since the 3-point system was introduced in 1992. In addition, and this is perhaps the main reason that motivated the owners to sack him, his pubic communication had become unbearable. He would complain about pretty much everything you can think about, therefore creating a a lot enemies for Roma. So the Friedkin family fired him not only for his poor performance but also to save the club’s reputation and brand image.

Mourinho always needs results. More than any other coach. He's at club for three seasons max and he builds teams for the short term. If he's in year 2 or 3 and the team is struggling, he'll always get the bullet. I can see him back to Portugal next time Benfica or Porto is vacant.
