I heard that the destroyer detonated a torp on a shot down aircraft when trying to rescue the pilot and was sunk by it later in the war. Most unlucky ship ever.

Nah americans are famous for it. My grandad landing in italy for the british in ww2 was getting shelled. The co was wondering how the hell the germans were firing arty from the beaches when they were all supposed to be secured... Turned out later it was the american navy giving "supporting fire".

True enough, especially if you count all wars up to the present, very confusing and ill defined war. The US has an abundance of firepower and soldiers, and usually does most of the fire-support, so it makes sense that the biggest and most mistakes will be from the USA. Friendly fire is just another darn good reason to throw onto the mountain of really good reasons to avoid war, if possible, and sometimes it isn't. Sucks being human, sometimes.

Bet many do not know this little weird fact about the BB Iowa. Prior to her transport of President Roosevelt to the conference a special bathtub was install so that the president might relax and due to his polio affliction leaving him paralyzed. The tub and room accommodations stayed aboard after the trip and can still be seen aboard the Iowa to this day.

Salen Stormwing It also shot down several US aircraft. Whenever a US aircraft came near, they would say "Don't shoot, we're Republicans!" (a reference to almost killing democrat president Roosevelt) over the radio, But it has to be a ship, not a camo, because it didn't have any distinctive markings, it was just a functionally retarded Fletcher. Or they could give everyone one for April Fools Day.

Wait wait wait, so the plan was to hit the iowa (sry if i wrote the name wrong) with torpedos, but somehow the tubes didnt work, but then did snd were heading to the iowa. And then they panicked because the president was on board. They managet to NOT hit the ship with the president on board, even if it was the plan, and nearly got punished for that? I dont get it. If it was the plan to hit iowa why didnt they?

kinda. they where turning the torpedo launcher but one got out in wrong time and was armed while they was turning and the torpedo was heading towards the iowa instead

No they weren't escorting the ship to Japan. They were escorting the Iowa class Battleship and Roosevelt to his famous conference with Churchill and Stalin which meant they were sailing in the Atlantic, not the Pacific

It's not a face. The nose is notched like that to help the torpedo's hydrodynamics.

That "face" is actually a U shaped Lifting lug welded to the very front of the nose assembly (kind of like a lifting shackle) used to attach wire rope to pull the torpedo forward when loading. Their use of shadow around the contours does make it appear to have a mouth and nose. Weird!

When given enormous battleships at the highest level of defence, one should expect a better level of responsibility and control.

You should look up just how many ships accidentally rammed into each other in WWII. Japan had multiple ramming incidents and at least four of them resulted in one of the ships sinking soon after.

Look into the William D. Porter's history and you'll see it was just one cockup after another. It tried to assassinate the president twice, the first time being a live depth charge that rolled across the deck. Then, it blew up an officer's garden while it was docked at port, and when it finally saw battle, it shot down a kamikaze airplane only for it to explode underwater and sink the ship. Luckily there was no casualties.

Well what are the odds, a MISS in real life... Don't expect this from the AI in WOWS, the AI would never MISS... If you don't get hit by Torps, Torpedo's, from the AI it's because they are aiming at someone else as you will be dead from Trops you don't see.... Great BLUNDER of a Game WOWS is....

That is not what happened or how it happened. That crew was extremely reckless, so much so that the iowa turned her guns at that destroyer and told it to make port, the marines stormed that ship at harbor and the entire crew were arrested for suspected attempted assassination. Never mentioned the depth charge they accidentally dropped that made the wgole formation think a uboat was upon them... Or that they were firing the torps because the officers were on a adrenaline high as the aa demonstration got their spirits up, but the person over the torpedoes didnt remove something from tge third torpedo in tube 3 and it launched, they were trying to train the crew to launch torpedoes using the iowa as an unwitting target... Thats what happened.
