Hahahah insecure Jake is back in full effect! This is absolutely golden!!!! Classic but with a modern day twist… like a take on a Shakespeare play; with all the drama and the twists and turns. I loved how long it took Jake to take off the hoodie… so much suspense. So much thought went into the execution of that moment. Reminiscent of… I think it was chinstrap beard?? Either way, it was perfection. Also… Amir’s sheer confusion / disbelief throughout was riveting. I was waiting for the word Dungarees to be aimlessly thrown in there but I digress; an absolute delight to watch! So much to quote. A whole lot of subtleties. Fisherman!!!! An inch of my life!!!! Teenage cousin upper decked it NOT STYLIN?? There isn’t a day I don’t cherish the fact that he’s here! ILL CHANGE ❤ perfect, perfect, perfect! 5 stars all around. I love the dual meaning of the last line: I’ll change. In a way, the crux of the short is about Jake changing. He changes himself on the outside, to be adored, to feel cool, to fit in. And in those two words - I’ll change - he distills his insecurity to form a porthole we can peer into. And the sight is devastating. He says he’ll change (out of the duck bib overalls), but he means he will, yet again, change who he tries to be. The twisted irony is, that in order to finally be free of his insecurities and to be loved, he needs to stop trying to change for others, and to change for himself. Jjkae needs to change, yes, but from within. He has to become a better man, for his own sake. Or, for his own Jake. He is Sisyphus, but the rock he rolls will only reach the top of the hill when he, in his heart, actually means what he says: He’ll change.
