I know everyone is giving this girl grief for spending $300+/month on waxing (assuming that’s not a one-time payment), but can we just talk for a minute about the fact that her family appears to be mooching off her, and not just a little bit!? $800 for rent in Florida seems really high for one person. I suspect she is covering most or all the rent for her family, and possibly even their entire cell phone bill. I wouldn’t be surprised if “wax passes” (plural) also includes a second person. I know all these are only assumptions, but based on the fact that she submitted this spreadsheet means that she has her own financial goals that are separate from her family. She needs to learn to establish clear boundaries with her family in order to reach her goals.

This girl needs to learn how to wax herself ! Waxing is stupid expensive, but buying a wax warmer and some hard wax will save her hundreds of dollars a month. I did it ! No regrets haha

I just checked into my phone plan, and I have to pay off my phone before I can switch to mint mobile lol but I did get my plan lowered $20 a month right now 🎉

One of the reasons that paying off debt sucks is that you have to reduce spending on fun stuff while making payments for stuff already purchased. So it's kind of like a double payment. The good news is while you are on a reduced spending program, you are learning how to live below not above your means. You are learning that you can be happy spending only for "needs" and passing on the "wants". You learn how to save for your future. You become debt free which is where you want to be!

I love that you suggested to her to just at least open up a high yield savings account while she’s working on the other big financial goals. Excellent motivator and manifestation of a long range goal!💪

It’s so interesting when you see the breakdown and how some people spend their money. There’s a lot of stuff that can be cut in this budget/ start sacrificing until some of that debt is paid off. Cell phone, wax and guilt free spending should be like $50 total. You can’t have luxuries and pay off debt. It’s time to sacrifice even for a few months. That will give you margin to pay yourself first!
@alwaysemilia Жыл бұрын
There’s definitely room to cut, but I disagree on one part. You said you *can’t* have luxuries and pay off debt, but my opinion is that it’s highly dependent on the situation.

I question the FSA too, $300 yearly doesn't hint towards it being a monthly necessity. And those FSA funds are forfeited at the end of the year if they go unspent. A small thing but wondering too if she has the expensive employer healthcare because a single person over $120 per paycheck seems like a lot.

If you don’t want to nix the waxing, an extra side hustle (or working overtime) might be a better idea. All you’d have to do is earn an extra $326 a month. Also, not sure if Spectrum is in the FL area, but they are currently offering a deal for 2 lines for $30 (for a year). Spectrum uses the Verizon towers, so decent quality.

Cell phone bill might have Wi-Fi included. Also, I think they can still do the waxes just not a pass. Waxes are more like $50.

I wonder if the cell phone bill is a family plan. We have AT&T, and have three lines as well as a watch and it’s $180 a month.

I would leave the tithe and decrease guilt-free spending by that amount. I suspect the cell phone bill includes other phone lines… Hopefully they can switch to mint mobile. That’s what I think I’m going to do when I get my kids a cell phone.

I think she should cut up at least the Amex and Chase Sapphire cards since they both have annual fees, and they are clearly not helpful for her.
