What has helped us the most is talking about taste buds: that they help us enjoy food and also that they change over time. So if it’s a new food, we check for taste buds by her sticking out her tongue and me examining it : “ oh look! I think I see some chicken taste buds! Let’s see!” And after she takes a bite more often than not she exclaims, “I do! I have chicken taste buds!” Or a food she’s disliked in the past:”let’s see if they’ve changed.” This has helped her try new foods and revisit previous dislikes. Though I know sticking out tongues at the table isn’t for everyone lol. (My LO is 2.5 yrs.)

I saw another video that suggested having the toddler “kiss” the food. This was huge for me because there are times that I know for a fact my toddler likes the item but says no when they see it or it looks different. Having them kiss it allows them to taste it on their lips and many times my toddler then realizes “oh I do like this”

Try the “kiss, lick, nibble” technique. I know, it sounds dirty. But hear me out. First have them kiss it. Next time see if they will lick it. After a while and some patience see if they will nibble the food item.

The tips are really great, you explained the toddler’s point of view; now I see how my toddler feels before a plate. However, as a mother of 4 I have gone through some horrible patches with some of my kids. I’ve tried many tricks and got stressed about it when it did not work. Especially between 2- 4 years 😢. I got so frustrated with their eating habits, and the way the get disgusted by food they aren’t familiar with.. but good news is they grow out of it eventually. So do not make food a tension source and a thing to fight about everyday. Ride it out and try your best.

@Sneha Harkut I just went with the flow and tried new things, and made sure the majority of the plate was things she already liked and she'd usually try the new stuff too. any tips if Sage just doesn't like the main course on her plate? do you just feed her more fruit or veggies or substitute so she's full?
@HealthNutNutrition2 жыл бұрын
It’s tough when they flat out refuse the main course 🤪 I always have something aka a “safe food” I know she’ll eat even if it’s a side like cucumber or strawberries. Worst case I’ll add something filling like cheese or avocado but I try not to keep offering new foods like it’s an open kitchen. I also try to be mindful of servings her foods I think she’ll eat. If it’s a completely new food and I’m on the fence about her eating it I’ll sometimes have a backup.

@bianka4001 Жыл бұрын
Just curious, why did you separate the sauce and pasta in the first place? Could've just served it premixed in one of the spaces of the plate and only put something unrelated like fruit in the other free space of the divided plate? That would've worked better in the long run I think.

It can be for snack later or the following meal. I try to set him up for success by not putting more than I know he can eat on his plate (you can always have more when finished) and I don’t put foods I know he really dislikes on his plate.
