One thing I looooove using the entire broccoli for, is pesto! I just do a basic pesto, yk, pine nuts, basil, oil, lemon, salt while the broccoli is roasting in the oven. When it's finished, I throw the stems into the pesto, pulse that quickly, cook up some pasta and serve it with the florets and the pesto. Sososososo good! Gotta try!

Inside tip from an Instacart shopper put that you don’t want produce bags on the suggestion/request for each item. It takes longer on your end but it will ensure that the shopper sees it because if you put it in the shopping notes they don’t see it till check out. Or text them directly. If you are texting them, well they just suck.

I literally JUST diced up my broccoli stems and was so proud of myself for eating them up instead of chucking them. I sauteed them with diced zucchini, onion, garlic, tomato, and field roast sausage.🥦💚 Also, when it comes to oat milk, I love Oatly most, but I just learned that, at least in my area, oat milk is the most expensive plant milk in the store. But it would be THE cheapest to make from scratch because oats are so affordable. So I bought some cheesecloth and I'm so excited to give it a go. Trying to pinch pennies over here so hopefully the homemade oat milk tastes just as good 🤞

I have been using instacart since before the pandemic and I think they have gone up on prices but I need the servicce because I am a single working mom. So its very convenient but yeah the plastic bags and all the bad produce choices is hard. I have been given rotten fruit or the greens look wilted, but I deal with it. I also try to limit my shopping to one store like Wegmans because they have more Vegan and Vegetarian foods also the produce is better.

I feel like being an adult on a whole food plant based diet is being excited about which new green you're going to buy for the week, haha. Also, I love that you touched on being picky about your produce because I am too! I feel like the shoppers on these apps may not be as fully equipped as we are about choosing the freshest and best produce. Personally, I can go through an entire bin at the grocery store in the quest to find what I deem is the best produce item for me. #firstworldproblems But I am still thankful that these apps exist.

You are smart to keep changing your produce choices. My allergist told me to do that...especially with nuts. So don’t do a lot of soy continuously because you can develop an allergy for it like me. I used to eat and drink a lot of soy...it was at the top of the list along with dairy. We have a produce store that I love to go to because they get in unusual products... and I love to sample new things. I find myself buying a lot of root veggies and different kinds of greens. We live in a hurricane zone...in fact we are expecting one tomorrow night...but root veggies are very versatile either cooked or raw. I can throw them on the grill if we lose electricity. Keeping fingers crossed and my eyes on God praying that it shifts further west before it gets here without hurting the islands. It is time to move.

I am a vegan again for the past 4 weeks and am enjoying it again. I love veggies and fruit. Mushrooms are my best friend I make tacos, saute with veggies, mushroom black been burger, and I've fried them and made chicken. Sooo good. And you are right when I shop instacart the people did do not pick out the best produce and I will take it back or get credit and get my own. I love the Farmers market in Texas . Looks like a nice haul! I'll have to give oat milk a try. First world problems are still problems, and I love your recognition of and attitude toward that fact. As far as food produce waste like the broccoli stalks, I'll chop them smaller and store in a container in the freezer. End of each week I'll easily have enough onion ends, stalks, and peels. I cook them in the water filled pressure cooker to extract the nutrients. Makes for a simple, nutritious veggie broth to cook up the soups, lentils, or pasta casseroles. Healthier than store bought sodium packed broths (and cheaper for sure!). I then toss the spent scraps in the compost out back.

I also recently discovered Silk Half & Half (half coconut and oat milk) and it really makes waking up worth actually getting up. As someone who struggles with depression, sometimes "the small things," like an oat & coconut milk-hybrid matcha latte sweetened with Canadian maple syrup, can make all the difference for a brighter day. ♡

I totally understand the dislike for plastic produce bags - mesh bags all the way for me too. However, as a grocery store employee that works alongside a delivery shopper system, I know that the direction to use plastic produce bags is often not within the shopper's control. At least in my store (TN is probably very different from CA though), all the shoppers must use those bags, regardless. I'm not sure of the ins-and-outs of why/what circumstances are exceptions to that rule, though.

I use Instacart and for the most part my produce has been on point but it also depends on who is shopping. I find many young men are not the best at picking out great produce but the ladies usually get it right and pay attention to my requests for specific fruits/vegetables.

I definitely feel the same it’s been an adjustment for me with shoppers selecting produce any way and not in a way as if they were shopping for themselves. I miss grocery shopping it was therapeutic for me, so I do my best to make the best of this adjustment. I love Oatly! Great shopping haul 😍

Jenne, I just watched a video about a bulk food shop in LA called Tare. They use 2 paper bags instead of plastic!

I’m too picky to grocery shop online and I hate when they say pick a backup in case the item you chose isn’t available...I just mask your and go to the store. I am interested in trying oat milk 🤔

My boyfriend is legit obsessed with oatly! I've been drinking it for the last few weeks and love it, but I wanted to move to something a little bit more clean so I'm making almond milk now at home and using that. Miss the oatly but I'll focus on making a better almond milk I guess 😋

When the pandemic first started I did InstaCart for a little bit as a shopper and they make you package the produce that way. That’s why the girl did that. Lol. It’s supposed to be for sanitary purposes or something.

One of my revelations in quarantine is grocery delivery. I knew it existed, obvs, but didn't use it. Lord...it's a gift. Between Instacart and Thrive, I don't think I'll go inside a grocery store again. And I actually save money, too, because I 'm only buying what's on my list and not being tempted by stuff I didn't think I "needed" until I saw it on the shelf.

Malk Oat Mill is the best, only three ingredients: water, oats, Himalayan sea salt. It also steams nicely!
