I was thrilled to interview Dr. John McDougall years ago on the podcast. He was certainly one of the first that influenced my own journey over 12 years ago. RIP Dr. McDougall. You were a trailblazer like none other. 🙏

Thank you Dr Marbas for all the work you do and for sharing your knowledge online. And for raising the next generation of ethical lifestyle doctors! I do have hope although I can understand Dr McDougall's frustration. I am 58 and thinking of training online as a McDougaller (is that the word?!) and work with obese/overweight people in the UK, either as a volunteer or if I need some extra income in my old age as economically things are so tough here and I feed lots of stray animals and wildlife and they cost a fortune! It will be hard to change people's perceptions and way of eating, but I feel so strongly about spreading the WFPB lifestyle. This way of eating helped me so much, not just with losing weight but with overcoming decades of bingeing that made me unable to work and almost drove me to take my own life. Becoming WFPB 4 years ago gave me a 2nd chance at life and I'll be forever grateful to you, Dr McDougall, Chef AJ, Dr Barnard, Dr Klaper and all the WFPB doctors, mostly from the US, whose videos have been an inspiration. You're all lifesavers, more than you'll ever know.

John had a great and rich life with a great family and friends, even if he as a young adult suffered some injuries. He was able to turn things around and prolonged his life a lot due to healthy foods. It’s not how many years you live, it’s the life quality and health during the years that you get that is the only thing that counts. Here John is a winner. One of the greats, and such an ethical doctor. The only thing I disagreed with him on was that he did not believe in food addiction. His 50-50 plate is such a simple, doable way of eating. I eat many more veggies and fewer starches than he would have recommended, this works for me because I am 58 and very petite, if I ate more wholegrains and legumes and more healthy fat I would put on weight. I love my soups and salads and riced cauliflower pasta so much, it is actually hard for me to eat less of them and have more wholegrains and beans, which are higher in calories. I no longer eat bread except on special occasions and i haven't had wholegrains or pasta for a couple of years, it's just that I love my veggie alternatives so much, cauli pasta is a favourite and so low in calories and tasty, if I had wholegrain pasta instead it would mean more calories but also it would sit more heavily on my stomach, I'm sure of that. For starches I eat potatoes, sweet potatoes, chestnuts and winter squashes, also starchy veggies. My only reason for reducing greens/veggie intake and eating more carbs would be to try and reduce my "baby" belly which sticks out quite a bit, so I may become more McDougall eventually. Can I also just say how wonderful Mary McDougall is, her Mini Mary programme sounds fantastic and incredibly helpful if you need a reset, it really appeals to me although I haven't needed to do if because by the time I learnt about it I was already slim. Both McDougalls are amazing and I'm so glad their daughter Heather and their team are continuing their work. Thank you for your life Dr John.

John has a point there, if all doctors advised there patients to do the right things soon they would run out of patients. But at the moment the majority of people in the world need some good advice of foods and exercise to get their health back and get rid of side effects from food choices and medications. The truth is that the mass market will not change so processed foods and big pharmaceutical companies will send billions of people to doctors until the governments and people don’t have more money to spend.

Great human great MD! Dr. John McDougall was so brave so courageous of Whistleblower, truth, teller and extremely generous giving an enormous integrity. In 2012 I became the victim of the opposite and unethical medical doctor is employee. It was violent a whole punched in my retina, my body, my patient writes violated no apologies. More wrongdoing gained 40 pounds Later, I would gradually lose it with Dr mcDougall’s teaching made sexy and fun by high carb HANNAH

Why do drs who "know," still practice conventional medicine, not lifestyle medicine is because they dont think ppl will adhere to the diet. They dont know how to get a lifestyle practice started. They dont have an MBA like Dr Marbas. We'd save money overall and people would be healthier. He was so passionate. ❤❤❤

The last years Dr McDougall looked so frail and skinny in an unhealthy way. His voice was so different if compared to say 6-8 years ago. So the questions are; what did he suffer from and what was the cause of the dead? In respect of him being so outspoken over illnesses from people following other diets than the Starch Based Diet I personally think that the family are obliged to release informations over his late age illnesses and cause of dead.
@luluandmeow
@luluandmeow 2 ай бұрын
He had serious complications following his stroke at a very young age, you don't have the right to know everything about his medical history or cause of death. Dr McDougall only looked skinny compared to all the overweight and obese people around, it used to be normal for everyone to be slim, we have lost sight of what is normal and healthy. A lot of people would call me anorexic and "too thin" when I actually eat a lot and I love being very slim, I work at it, thank you very much. Thin-shaming is just as malicious as fat-shaming. If you don't like the way of eating he recommended, what are you doing here? Your comments at this time especially come across as aggressive and unnecessary.

I suspect he was low iodine with thyroid problems. Raspy voice is a symptom of that with not sleeping much, which he complained of. Watch his last interview on McDougall Medicine 2 days before he died. He had heavy bags under his eyes & severely thinning hair, all symptoms of hypothyroidism. His severe weight loss my have been hyperthyroidism. Only an autopsy would reveal.

If I had felt great following the Starch Solution which I did not I would have continued. And the fact that we will never know the cause of death for Dr MCDougall lacks integrity. For someone who was so critical during his life of how and why other people died he should have made sure that when whe died we would all know exactly why and we never will. That lack of integrity is how I know he was not totally in line with truth.

Why are you saying we will never know the cause? It’s because you’re assuming it was veganism and anything other than that won’t satisfy you? The truth is, ANYONE, regardless of diet, that gets old and doesn’t aggressively strength train for decades prior to build a lot of muscle mass, is going to get skinny and frail and weak. Or fat and frail and weak, which is even worse. There’s nothing magical about meat and nothing that your can’t get from plants. But you can’t sit around not lifting weights. Sarcopenia and osteoporosis and the syndrome we call “frailty” is preventable if, and only if, you get your butt to the gym and build a couple dozen pounds of lean body mass BEFORW you’re 70 years old. Do it when you’re 40, assuming you didn’t do it when you were 20. As my old strength coach said, if you wait until you’re 60 to start lifting, you F’d up. Some of the vegan docs are coming around to this, with Goldhammer now saying you have to load the skeleton to prevent bone loss, and Gregor vowing to start strength training instead of just walking on a treadmill all day. But the MDs who are also lifters, like Barbell Medicine, have known this for decades now. The old vegan docs looked old and frail because they never built the lean body mass to see them through old age. It’s not the lack of animal food, especially not now with vegan protein powder, and soy is essentially the same profile as meat as well. The harsh truth is that most old people are like this, and most old people are not vegan. Plant based isn’t a panacea, it’s the diet part of a healthy lifestyle. Strength training is the exercise part of it. And there are other parts still, like chemical exposure, sleep, stress, snd the ultimate longevity determinant, genetics.
