My cousin went into congestive heart failure at age 19 six years ago. You never would’ve known how sick he was because he was away at school and pulling straight A’s. It ended up being an issue with his valves and he had two valves replaced at the Cleveland clinic. He’s been doing great ever since and has lived a healthier life because of it. He lost a lot of weight and started eating healthier.

I was diagnosed with CHF in late 2017. Had a cath and showed as 25% E.F.. I had to wear a defibrillator vest for 3 months and started on Carvedilol, Losartan Potassium and Spironolactone and the last 3 Echocardiograms have been normal results. Before I took 1 hour inside the shower and couldn't do anything without getting seriously out of breath. Now I can shower normally grocery shop while walking instead of riding..so much has changed but you've still given me info here I didn't know about. Holding his own by the looks of it. So nice to better understand what’s going on with him. He just turned 87, I hope he will be able to add a few more years to that!

I just found out that my loss of strength in my legs, going up and down stairs, and getting up from the floor was not because I wasn’t exercising enough. It was because I have CHF with an ejection fraction of between 20-25%. I was in shock, and scared! I just turned 81 and don’t want to be given a death sentence. Your discussion gives me hope, and I learned that I am taking a beta blocker as well as the latest new drug meant for diabetics so my doctor is on top of the latest in heart care. You present the information so well, and I’m more hopeful now about my heart health.❤️😊

I am 3/4 done nursing school and was writing a research paper on CHF. I googled Dr. Mike and I didn't realize you guys were just down the road from KW in the GTA. I really appreciated the Dr. Mikes explanation. Also I had my first OR experience where I was an observer and not the one laying on the table under anesthesia. I got to watch a TKA and the mechanical side of surgery especially ortho, made me want to take the OR course and maybe someday be a scrub nurse in the OR, and have to memorize the 200 instruments that were in front of me for your specialty. I loved every minute of it!

Finally a video that describes this disease so someone without a medical degree can understand it. I loved this video. My mother has type 2 heart failure. They tell her there is nothing they can do for her. I have researched to try to find out what to expect through this journey through its entirety but haven’t been able to find anything. Yes I know it will get worse but I just want to make her as comfortable as possible. What are her limitations like taking care of herself. Will she be so out of breath that she will not be able to bathe or just do everyday things bc I feel like we are there or she has just given up. How do I tell the difference? I think it’s important for people to know what to expect and what to do when caring for someone with CHF. Please do a video on caring for someone with CHF.

He brought students to listen to my heart, then students would arrive in twos, and I was not told a thing, not even that I was to be prescribed another medication. My 11 yr old dog has CHF. She had all the testing from Cardio Vet. She is currently on Vetmedin twice a day. I’ve been told she’s in late stage heart failure. Is there anything else that could help? She is a rescue from an abusive situation. I have only had her a yr in a half, don’t want to loose her ❤️. You guys are awesome!!

“ You are in charge of your own health” (at the end of the video,) I was having some mild angina or some chest pains(,I,m not sure the cause was ever conclusive,)the internal DR sent me to the specialist,I told him I drank some beer everyday,he brushed me off with a look of distain and ended the visit,I saw him six weeks later to review some tests and told DR I had not drank since I had see him,he shook my hand and said : we will never meet again if you look after your self👍👍

I have a family history of aortic dissection and heart failure. So for me the echo is vital I learned I have a generous aorta at 3.7 cm which is being monitored as well as premature beats in small chamber with occasional pvc's. Your heart ♥️ videos are priceless and I want to say thank you ☺️

Thank you!! I'm so glad you did this video! My dad went into the hospital for a kidney issue and found out his heart doesn't pump out all of the blood it takes in like its supposed to. It just sort of pools in the lower chambers. He is often short of breath and fatigued and his legs swelled substantially. If its not one thing its something else sometimes. I once went to Emergency for facial edema ( or as I called it 'Jay Leno chin') and they found a meningioma tucked in behind my eye! Anyway, thank you SO much for presenting all this information so clearly. I'm a little less freaked out now.

I had type 2. I could not lay down at all. Slept in a chair for a week. Gasped for air like my head was in a toilet. So tired. Went to hospital blood pressure through the roof. Lungs full of fluid. Heart function was 35% ran a ekg on my watch b4. The warning scared me. The only reason why I went to hospital.

Thanks Gentlemen this was reassuring for me, waiting for a cardioversion due to AF. It was a shock to suddenly be on all this medication after not taking regular medication before. and the increases in dosage can be scary. the symptoms were exactly what sent me to the ER, shortness of breath, fatigue and edema. medication is working and change of lifestyle including job too , relying more positive now. I started out with pleural effusion (and didn't know it) until it turned into a serious empyema - I had only minor symptoms, which I basically ignored - After a few days I finally called 911, the empyema required 3 hours of surgery, and I developed the heart failure while I was hospitalized. My total hospital stay was 38 days.

You guys are awesome!!! Oh how I wish one of you was my doctor!!!!.,I’m #2! It stinks! No heart attack, but admitted to ER in respiratory failure. Simply terrified. I swell in the belly. That’s why I had NO CLUE. MY CARDIOLOGIST IS KIND But more concerned with Afib, which was corrected with ablation. Has no concern about Heart Failure and in 8 months I’m going downhill. We suspect your cardiologist does care about your heart failure but it is often related to the a fib. Just voice your concerns and they will likely be addressed. Hang in there Sushi!

I saw my GP on Tuesday for shortness of breath. I do have mild Emphysema and he said do have restrictions in my lungs. BP was good, heart sounded good, and lungs sounded clear. He did check my neck. Yesterday I had chest X-rays. I’ll be getting ECG and heart tracing at LifeLabs along with blood test to show shortness of breath.

@@TalkingWithDocs Seems I gained about 45 lbs of water weight. I don’t really understand the results of all the tests but apparently one side doesn’t fill enough or fast enough. I just developed a pain inside just to the right of my scar after not having any pain at all since and including my surgery. It almost feels like something happened to the wire used to hold the bone together. It feels like a muscle strain. Anyway, communication with my doctor and he says pains like this come and go.

Thanks for videos! I've watched many. Nice, concise with not a lot of fluff. I was diagnosed with CHF in December of 2019 when I was 59. Healthy, active with no risk factors or family history. My EF was 15%. 18 months later my EF was 55%. My goal is 60%. But no improvement in the last 6 months. Was hoping that if I hit that number I wouldn't have to keep taking the meds, but my cardiologist said I would be on them for the rest of my life.

I had heart failure in 2018. Thank goodness my husband was there n did CPR. I had gone to yoga that day n just got home 10-15 minutes. I was very lucky n was in ICU 5 days, pulled my oxygen tube out!! Was in the hospital 4 more days. I am on Losartan n carvedilol. I am doing great now!!

They think mine was from covid or a med for nerve pain. I always felt like i had anxiety real bad. I kept complaining. And i kept getting different meds. But it was my heart. Im glad my doctor never gave up. The final thing that was the game changer was i lost weight quickly. I was sick when u ate. My arms would swell. Not my legs. Its all been a blur ! Im on spironlactone,entresto, carvedilol 😊

Angina with intrinsic anxiety really sucks. Some pain meds would be nice, but they're virtually illegal. Not happy about dying alone in pain.

I went to the doctors for weight gain with no appetite and swollen legs, ankles, and feet. All I got was a prescription for furosemide. Now my feet are darkened. I went to see my endocrinologist for a check up. she noticed during my feet examination and told me I needed to see a cardiologist right away. I go back to my doctor bc I need a referral, and she then says. Your bloodwork came back normal, but you may have chf with possibly less than 5 yrs. She said i didn't think you needed to see a cardiologist bc you're still young, but an echocardiogram will confirm if you have chf, and you may. She referred me to a cardiologist. We have a meet and greet with no testing in 2 wks. To sit and know I'm dying is a sadness that feels unbearable. I'm in my 40s. I don't want to die. This possibly happened from taking ibuprofen for 4 years for back pain. I thought it was better than narcotics, and I was wrong. Nobody told my ibuprofen could kill me.

Hi survivor. Sorry to hear this. There are many causes of swelling. At a young age it would be more likely be related to your kidneys r wait and see what the cardiologist says. And then do everything you can to reverse it. Hang in there and best of luck

I have HOCM diagnosed about 29 months ago and had Septal ablation 14 weeks ago. The surgery helped enormously with the near constant pain and breathlessness but fatigue and pain on exercise is still an issue. At 55 my working days appear to be over. I stopped drinking alcohol completely and that has helped and I'm losing weight slowly with a low fat diet! My medications are disopyramide 200mg twice daily, bisoprolol fumarate 10mg daily, atorvastatin 80mg daily and aspirin 100mg daily. I have good days and bad days but all in all I'm doing ok considering!

Thank you so much for the information. I was recently in heart failure due to a reaction to my chemotherapy. Nobody explained what was going on and the oncologist was so determined that it wasn't the fault of the Taxol that caused it. Now I understand how serious this was.

The term Heart Failure is frightening. When you first hear this as a patient is sounds final, urgent and dire. How about just Cardiac Congestion Syndrome or just Heart Congestion. I am a terminal Stage 4 cancer patient that recently suffered fast onset CHF where over a few days went from mild/medium SOB to waking up feeling I was drowning. PE ruled out andCHF confirmed with testing. Diuretic gave almost immediate relief. I was very alarmed by being told I had heart failure on top of everything else. Heart Congestion would have been easier to swallow.

Thank you. My Mom is in heart failure 😪. She’s 85. Also my Grandson was born with Lymphatic Malformation with micro cysts affecting his left side of face. Many complications. His Ent dr proclaims he will be an excellent candidate for a face transplant. Scared us both. Could you do a show about LM or face transplant? He’s 14 and trying to plan ahead. We are raising him as Mom and Dad incompetent.

Hello from Australia. I love these sessions, thank you very much. By looking at these I was motivated to ask my Doctor about heart health and as a result underwent a number of tests including a "calcium score". I am 65 years of age and had one of these tests at 45 years of age which was 0. The more recent one was reported to be 21. Blood pressure is consistent at 120 / 75 so they say I am all good. Are these calcium scores a reliable indicator of heart health. Many thanks for taking the time to comment.

Hi Rob. So we don’t use them much in Canada for a bunch of reasons but they can be used as a piece of the puzzle in addition to other tests like bloodwork, EKG, and stress tests etc. glad you are doing well
