Just listen to the best female rock vocalist ever...Love you Ann!
@wayneburnett50988 жыл бұрын
+BluesTiger1000 What do you mean female? No male can touch her vocal range. She is the best rock vocalist.
@BluesTiger10008 жыл бұрын
+Wayne Burnett OK, got your point. Ann is one of the best, male or female. She is now what....65? But still rocks hard with Nancy.
@wayneburnett50988 жыл бұрын
+BluesTiger1000 Years ago, when in her prime, especially while listening to the very last vocal note of "Sylvan Song/ Dream of the Archer", I realized how much power she had in reserve even when "pinching off" that held note. With a few exceptions, the many blonde hair-band male vocalists, ( following Robt Plant as a model to success ), must have envied Ann. Most Males need to scream to hit those hi tenor notes. Yes Ann could scream, but she could SING those notes too, with ease. Most of the famous rock singers have they're own distinctive style, recognized and loved immediately by fans. (Whether they are great "singers" or not.) AC-DC, Scorpions, Z Z Top, Ozzy, Van Halen, The list is endlessI Admittedly, I have yet to hear a female get that testosterone driven, "down and dirty" sound guys can produce. But when it comes to "PIPES"??? It has been said that the most beautiful instrument ever heard on earth is the female voice. Ann had the range from sweet and delicate, to all the backup power of Hoover Dam. She still has those pipes, but not like when she was in her prime. And those Hair-Band Vocalists are old guys now too. LOL Cheers-Wayne

She can still sing just as well, and do all that stuff. Her voice has changed over time, and she has a lot more experience, knowledge and skills than she had at the beginning, so she knows how and when to do what she wants, and she always does a song a little different in concert, not too much, just a little, her voice has thickened up over time, but that just makes it more full sounding, without the slightly shrieky edge of the vocal notes, she once sometimes did. and their guitar tone is heavier now, than it was at the beginning, they progressed etc..she just lost a lot of weight last year, and it seems like she is really on a mission, going for it a lot now.

What I love about Heart doing covers of Zepplin is the fact that they don't change the style or sound at all, they love and respect the song the way it is and just love to rock them out!
@trainmonrovia19128 жыл бұрын
+thegreatcarraway And at the same time it is different, if you know what I mean. I think what they nail is the spirit, the soul, the personality of Zeppelin.
@wayneburnett50988 жыл бұрын
+Train Monrovia They probably Loved ZEP, and considered themselves friends. They actually modeled themselves after the diversity of ZEP music. Let's see...ZEP touched on, Folk, Blues, Celtic, Scandinavian/ Viking, Old English traditional, mystical, Morrocan/ Algiers/ Zanzibar, and laid the ground work for Rock ballads and metal music. Big shoes to fill. Heart was a big strong branch straight off ZEP. Like ZEPs cute cousin.

Wayne Burnett Well put. But you could say the Beatles expanded into various genres as well. They had the advantage of having 3 singer-songwriters. But Zep lasted longer as a band, so it balances out.
@trainmonrovia19128 жыл бұрын
Wayne Burnett Again, I think the Beatles were able to cover so much ground by the simple fact that they had 3 singer-songwriters. U2 was great, but in my opinion after Achtung Baby they went in decline (as far as artistry). I would say Radiohead is up there. The Eagles had multiple singer-songwriters but only really did 6 albums (plus a reunion album). I'm not a music historian so these are just impressions I have.

The ironic thing is, Heart has stayed together 40 years, and not had any long layoffs. They toured and recorded almost every year, since they started. None of these other bands, Zeppelin, the Beatles, etc..did that. So, they actually have more experience touring, recording, and all that, than any of these other bands that were, or are bigtime bands. Another thing is, a lot of these other bands have at least some songs that are easy to sing. Heart does not have any songs that are easy to sing, and make it sound good. I have seen a lot of gals at jam sessions, karaoke, a couple times, trying to sing some Heart songs, totally straining as hard as they could, it never seems to go very well.

This is some cool rare footage! I'm old enough to remember that Heart released this as an actual single. With Ann Wilson on vocals it was hard to screw up! Loved the little changes they came up with. Her a cappella thing at the end (badass) and the guitarist's little trill thingy he does when everyone stops.
