D Palmerama It's just his value. 9/9 of stats, and also what's kind of a 2-8 damage arcane missiles (it's pretty different from that but still) is absolutely insane for 7 mana. That's why I find it weird that nobody saw this coming, to be honest. Generally people can see pure value cards. It's also good that he's a separate minion from the bots because it means that even after he eats some removal (which is important) he still leaves behind 2/2 of stats with that 2-8 damage missile effect, which is maybe worth like three to four mana.

I do see your point. Especially if you can team him up with kelthuzad, it's interesting to see his comeback as well. While he is good I don't see why he's the must have for every deck. Maybe 'cos he's the go to legend at the moment and the only decent gvg legend I've had so far is sneed so I can't see it. Kind of like when everyone got their first rag or ysera.

D Palmerama He's just consistently the highest value card in the entire game and because of his 7 mana cost and basic, non-combo effect he's extremely accessible to most decks. That's more than enough to warrant a nerf, in my opinion. Kel'Thuzad is actually a nice card to talk about when talking about Dr. Boom. KT is probably the highest value card in the game at his high points but the consistency issues are what makes him not played. Boom doesn't have that problem. I do run KT in my Ramp Druid though and I personally find him consistent enough to warrant play in a couple of decks. I have Boom but in all honesty I'm hoping he gets nerfed so I can use the dust to craft a more fun legendary. As good as he is, he's not much fun.

And Troggzor indeed had good value if your opponent couldn’t kill him without using a spell. Dr. Boom was very similar to Troggzor in that sense, he didn’t have taunt either was pure value as well, but the difference is he didn’t rely on your opponent casting spells to be good.

In spite of how much MtG players harp in the game for being casual, it's not simple, especially when you're looking at the metagame trends, which are the aggregate of thousands and thousands of games and player psychologies. It's for this reason I don't think anyone is qualified to make accurate predictions about cards. My entire point earlier was it's easy to say a card is good or bad after you've experimented with it; hindsight is 20/20.

You have to think: How would players react to a card. Guess what happens when you play Troggzor? You will not see one spell until he's dead. You play Dr. Boom, what the hell does your opponent do. Turn 7, you're playing first, you're putting Troggzor on the empty board, opponent plays Dr.Boom. You can't kill it, if you don't have BGH - gg, or you are killing off your own Troggzor and dealing that one point of damage somehow. Opponent still has the board. You're playing second, turn 7 Dr.Boom from the opponent, you can't play Troggzor into that. gg. That's why Troggzor is played only in Ramp Druid, where he can land on the board earlier. But what other card can land on the board on turn 5 without innervate, screwing opponent's turn, and has just little bit lower stats? Loatheb. You don't need 2 cards to play him then, and can give you massive advantage and time to clear. Troggzor would be really good if meta was bit slower, then everything said about him in this video would be actually true, but with mages and hunters filling the board, there's too many possible answers to Troggzor, and not enough occasions to play him. That's what happened.

Yeah you have to realize that some of the strongest decks pre GVG were spell-based slow control decks like priest and freeze mage. The meta now is aggro and anti-aggro control but you don't see the slow control any more like you did pre-GVG.

The biggest thing with the reveals is that you can't know what the meta is going to be. Shieldmaiden is a good example because it definitely looks terrible on paper but it worked because control had a ton of support. With Dr. Boom I think they didn't understand the idea that the card is basically a 7 mana 7/7 that deals 2 damage to a random enemy and then 3 damage to a random enemy on average, plus you are getting bodies.

The only real problem with Troggzor wasn't Troggzor but the decks that could kill you before turn 9. Even though Dr Boom was basically better cus instant board + self self activating boom bots, I do think that if the game was much much slower where you have 2 7 mana minions then Trog would have actually been used.

Trump was mostly right about Shieldmaiden. It was one of the weaker cards of the deck, they only used it because it counts as a late game minion and it healed a bit. Back then this was enough to make it into a deck. Now there are way more specific decks and tougher

The reason a lot of these people poorly estimate these cards is because they play arena and not constructed so when they look at a card they look at its value and not its tempo.

I thought Dr Boom bots attack random minion at that time... not random enemy minion and I also thought they may 50% of the time exploded and kill themselves at the start
