Heat transferring laser printed lettering to a ring

Thumbnail shows a ring I etched from a carved foam plastic stamp print...using solvent based printer's ink, dried thoroughly in the sun... (it dissolves in the copper sulphate and salt etching solution if not fully dry, I found out! perhaps ferric chloride etching solution would be gentler on the ink... I need to try it).
I've made whole steel and also aluminium etching plates using this transfer method - the trick is to heat the metal and the domestic iron to about 180 degrees Celsius (linen heat on my iron - the maximum setting).- and the press hard enough to squash the melted toner of the print onto the surface of the steel. I'm still unsure if it will work here, on the ring... But there's no reason why not. Funny how we doubt a process when the form is different... As it turned out, the ring wasn't hot enough to transfer much of the toner... the key to success with the etching plates was that I preheated the plates on an electric hotplate, then ironed the photocopy onto the plates while the plates were still on the hotplate.
Also important is to dissolve the paper away with gentle cold water washing and rubbing with fingers, to leave the toner still adhering to the metal plate. Don't try and peel the paper off dry!
