Why do people think Fitzgibbon is gonna be a good coach? Because he was a good player??? The top 3 coaches in the nrl right now. Craig Bellamy (a fringe first grader at best) Trent Robinson (pretty much a reserve grader) Wayne Bennett (a fringe rep player.) the nrl is one of the few sports on earth that pretends being a good player is a requirement for being a good coach. It’s not it’s nothing but an excuse to give some good ol boys a job because you underpaid em at the end of their career. In contrast the nfl has head coaches who went to college then became coaches they started preparing for the job at 22. Some are the most respected in the game at 35. Is it because he’s been an assistant at the roosters?? Cool assistant coach and head coach aren’t the same thing. It’s like saying because I work in construction I’m going to succeed as an architect. I might but my being good at my current job is not the same thing. I sincerely hope Fitzgibbon goes well, success stories are far better than failures. But the idea that Fitzgibbon is a better coach’s and can attract player bec20 years ago he and Hindmarsh and ricketson formed nsw’s greatest backrow is just wishing on a star.

The coach is not the problem. The Sharks have been carrying a lot of dead wood on their roster for some years now. You have to feel sorry for Morris but that being said, now is as good a time as any for a major cleanout from top to bottom. Good luck to Fitzgibbon . At this stage I think he will need it.
@gtmorgan4323
@gtmorgan4323 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah dead wood like Matt Moylan who’s on $900k a season and Josh Dugan who’s on $900k this season and those two players are coming off contract so John Morris never got the chance to have money available to spend on players he wanted instead Craig Fitzgibbon will get that opportunity and that’s a damn shame
@gtmorgan4323
@gtmorgan4323 3 жыл бұрын
I honestly think John Morris was just a long term interim coach and I think the Sharks was just waiting for this point all along and John Morris wasn’t there to sign players or make the team his own he was just there to coach the team up until this point so they could sign a better option to coach this team and now they think they have that better option in Craig Fitzgibbon and Fitzgibbon will now have around 5 million dollars to spend for next season and beyond

As Sharks fan, I am excited about Fitzgibbon next year. But our club handled the whole situation badly. Everyone likes to talk about the big 6 clubs, they do not handle situations like this. Telling coach on Monday no decision has been made, then on Tuesday he is gone. Not exactly a professional way to handle things. Also as incoming coach seeing this mess unfold. When kenty said their a middle of the table club he exactly proved ikin and crawleys point. The sharks in so many areas there cap is screwed. Fines in place reserve grade quality players on big money and yet John Morris has gotten that team who quite honestly on paper could be argued as a bottom 8 side to the finals 2 years out of 2. He has blooded new players and made them good enough to get to the finals. Just when he can come in and spend money on bringing in new players that he wants and getting rid of the sack of potato’s on big money he gets fired. You ask me it’s got nothing to do with him being a good bloke it’s to do with the fact that you just sacked the man that has gotten your club in a much better position than they would’ve been with 90% other coaches, and they had the audacity to sack him

John Morris done a good job considering he got them to the finals 2 years in a row and considering he hasn’t had the money available to sign players he wants because Dugan and Moylan and Fifita ain’t worth what there on atm and your marquee player Johnson hasn’t played yet and so John Morris has had to blood in a lot of rookies over the past two seasons and imo he’s built a good team with what he’s had available to him

John Morris was treated like a bum, the same as Dean Pay. Used till they fixed the cap then straight out the door for a new coach. How can you blame players when they move on, loyalty is gone, started by the clubs. As for these boof heads, Ikin is the only one that understands the subject, Morris might not have beaten a top 4 side, but he doesn’t have a top 4 squad. Now that they are getting cap space & can bring in other players, why not let Morris have an fair go & judge him then. Not while he has all the restraints with the cap.

This is one of the dumbest gutless decisions I’ve ever seen from a club, his a very good coach who hasn’t had a fully fit squad since his been there. This is the first year they finally look like they could make top6 and they replace him. If I was a sharks fan I would complain

It is amazing how clubs ditch a coach who builds a premiership contending team. Roosters did with Graham Murray and next year Ricky Stuart wins the premiership. It has happened to Anthony Griffin at the Broncos for Bennett and Penrith for Ivan Cleary. Good luck to the coaches who inherit the rosters built up by the previous coaches. Griffin must be a good coach if you look at the results versus the expectations of the 'Experts" for the Dragons this year. Do not know if he is a pork chop or not but to be successfull the club as a whole needs to be harmonious and if your club isn't doing too well then there are things going on that are not being exposed to the public which are dividing the club.

Those journos are completely out of their depth. They support their argument with "private" conversations which I bet never happen.
