Brother, you are a legend and if no one ever tells you this before, you are legend!!!! We have a 2004 chevy avalanche and a leaking evaporator core; and this process is almost entirely the same except for the airbag sensor location, certain radio wiring and engine bay config. We followed your video second by second. We made it all the way to the actual box removal but then we had to stop for the day. For a break as night had fallen. Just two more screws on the right side, lol.. We will tackle the remainder of the job later on. Thank you so much for being there for the little guys in this world filled of chaos. You are a good man. Love from the caribbean brethren...

I cut a whole in the firewall from the engine compartment. It exposed the core. I took the hoses off and hooked them up to e new heater core and bi passed the old one. I then put the wall back on using new hardware and sealant. I then put the new core on the firewall, wrapped it in insulation and was done. It took an hour and a half. This is an old ranchvtruck used for feeding and never leaves the property. It would be junked before it's ever sold.

Just a quick tip time saver if you disconnect the harness from the fuse box and wiper motor under the cowl push the harness thru the firewall you can take out the whole dashboard out with almost everything intact just unplugging the doors and body plugs

Kudos brother, you’d think those fools at GM WOULD HAVE BEEN SMARTER. I have a 2006 2500 GMC if this happens to me and clamp and the hoses and connecting my Honda generator in the bed with wires to a portable heater inside the cab. On your episode six I had a locked and loaded with a double barrel and remove that heater assembly piece by piece🤬. And those engineering knuckleheads created a water pump that you have to remove the harmonic balance to remove one nut that holds water pump it.

@@FakeLegGreg yes you are correct. A little history. I owned a 73 super Beatle . no heat and drove it all year long. Central ill . lol had a window scraper for the inside too. And yes you are correct , till it freezes on the inside. Thanks for yhe video. Looks like a lot of work. Guess I am most worried about the air bad. Why did you take the whole evap box out? All you had to do was take the top lid off to remove heater core
@FakeLegGreg
@FakeLegGreg 2 жыл бұрын
Did you even look at the beginning of the series of these videos? I am no rookie at this. This heater core is not that easy. You have to remove the dash and the whole box to get the heater core out. Last time I checked it was a $1500+ job and the parts are only about $75. I have done a lot of heater cores in my 45 years of wrenching. This was the worst I have seen so far. Thanks for watching.

@@FakeLegGreg I wasn't saying anything bad, you did great, but you don't have to remove the box. Just slide it back. I own an automotive shop and I've changed several of these. Granted they're not as easy as a dodge those yoy can change in 45 minutes.

@@GregoryJohnston77 Gotcha. You are probably right about sliding the box back. I wasn't trying to flat rate the job and it is more difficult to get camera angles and lighting inside the truck. Thanks for your input though, there are always more than one way to skin a cat.

GM designer should be in jail for this design. Kidding for course but at least they could have made the heater core of better, i.e. thicker, material so one wouldn't have to total the truck because of a heater core. Bast***s.
