Great work on the heat treat: most people never figure out that if you want a perfect soak at about 1450 degrees Fahrenheit before quench, just melt salt and use the molten salt bath because it will maintain that temperature regardless of the surrounding temperature being hotter, so you don't overheat your blade. But fyi, before you test hardness with those files, you should remove the scale from the area you're going to test, because the scale can give you a false high reading (but yours was likely correct because of the salt bath ensuring good temp before the quench).

I have no idea what that means but I agree 👍

It's only during the phase change that temperature remains constant, once the salt has melted the liquid salt will begin to heat up more
@stevealford2304 ай бұрын
@@josephrappold I knew that caveat, but I was under the impression that after phase change the temp remains mostly constant until A LOT more energy is absorbed in order to raise the temperature more, so that the way I described it is only a slight exaggeration, that the temp will go up, but takes much longer to go past the target temp zone. And the big positive is that it'll keep even heat across the whole blade, unlike using a jet of hot gas in a forge.

@stevealford230 it's definitely a cool trick, I know nothing about forging, but I love watching videos of it!
