They are not just a Japanese phenomena. They have headlined multiple tours through the USA and Europe. They have warmed up/supported some big time bands such as, Metallica, Judas Priest, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns & Roses, Korn and about 5 years ago supported Lady Gaga. They have even headlined a couple of arena shows in the west (The Forum - Los Angeles, Wembley - London).

You got it - best metal song about playing hide & seek ever (they are playing it with an Oni - a sort of Japanese ogre, which makes it a bit more metal, but I'm told not the flesh eating kind). So when you're jogging to this don't forget when the ogre calls "Are you ready" (that's the growly vocals, but he says it in Japanese) to shout out "Maada da yo" (no not yet) and to do the running dance. More Babymetal to come I hope - they drag you into their fox hole and don't let you out, I've been down here for at least 3 or 4 years and I'm still loving it.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏃‍♀️👹 Looks like it's already been pointed out that this song is about playing something like "hide-and-seek" with a Japanese Ogre. The recurring "Maada da yo" call from Yui and Moa in this song means "Not ready yet!" Some of their cutest choreography in this one. : ) BABYMETAL added a legit Metal backing band as soon as their producer Koba was able to convince the higher ups at Amuse, Inc. to let him go for it. There was an interview with Koba, when he talks about his instructions to the band when he first put them together. It was, 'Don't hold back because they are "Idols". Don't hold back because they are girls.' I have to say though, fun as this has been so far, that you haven't even scratched the surface of BABYMETAL, especially of Su's voice. Just wait to you hear one of her solo songs. And then there's also Black BABYMETAL. : )

Round and round, hide-and-seek. Those red shoes, you shouldn't wear, because they are dangerous." Hi Mace! Good reaction! This is indeed the most metal song you'll hear about a game of hide and seek. Kakurenbo is the name of the Japanese game, where the seeker is called an "oni", which is like a horned demon ogre. BABYMETAL is absolutely amazing live, I caught them last year on their US tour, it was the best show I've ever seen. The band has been teasing "XX Day", which we were expecting to be October 10th (10/10) as October will mark their 10th anniversary. Was planning on going to Japan for whatever they were going to put on for that day, but now with all that's going on there's no telling if it's even going to happen or not....

At a time when things seem pretty glum it's great that you found this...it's pure high octane fun. I use their concert recordings for working out myself. It's a bit fast for me to run to, but stairs/bike/elliptical all get a huge boost of energy from them. When you've done a few more reactions, be sure to check out a full concert recording. The energy they deliver from song to song even after over an hour never dips. The Live at London Forum from 2014 is a particular favorite of mine. It's one of their first full shows in front of a western audience and they're clearly really hyped about it.

That was a fantastic reaction - one of the best I’ve watched. This song clearly pitched you head first down the Fox Hole and I know from how you reacted that you’re going to love every minute of that long, exciting drop! Black holes have only a fraction of the dragging power that Babymetal possess! I’ve subscribed - as have quite a few others I’m guessing - because we do love watching those WTF? moments interspersed with awe, wonder and smiles (Babymetal will always make you smile through the headbanging). 5:25 - That was indeed me that recommended this but I know you would have had lots more of the same but glad to point the way! The Kami Band (God Band) are rightly named and I can see that you clearly appreciate why. Their ‘look’ is that of a traditional Japanese corpse, with the white shroud, whitened face and black eyes - they are egoless enough to not need their faces shown but are all renowned and respected and have their own projects apart from Babymetal. Sadly, one of the guitarists in this performance died 2 years ago (RIP Mikio Fujioka, ‘The Little God’). The mosh pits of Babymetal are the biggest you’ll probably see and Su-Metal, the lead singer, does enjoy commanding them to circle for her but, because Babymetal are so sweet, they call them Mosh’shh Pits and expect people to circle wildly but not to throw themselves against each other so no-one gets hurt! The biggest I recall is during a performance of their track ‘Roads of Resistance’, written by Dragonforce, ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIWoioh8nLGpm7s ). I can see it’s appearing on the huge list of suggested songs you’re receiving and can’t recommend it enough as a fine example of Su, aged 17, controlling 10,000+ people at once. The other great performance that shows off Su’s crowd control ability and is one that I (and, again, many others) have to recommend is their first UK appearance at Sonisphere in 2014, when they appeared mid afternoon to a crowd of 65,000 waiting to see Metallica, most of whom had not heard of them before. It’s the best Metal song about not bullying ever (Come on, Rammstein. Keep up!) and it’s called Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Bullying, No More, Forever/Never) ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKCQkJaYm8mlj6c ). You commented at 3:47 that the crowd response was something that happened “only in Japan” and that was true up to that day. You’ll see why when you watch it! Interesting that you’ve already learned about the pronunciation of Bebi-Metal and, if you want the definitive list of lyrics, in English, Japanese phonetic and Kanji, then the first 2 albums are covered in minute detail by Du-Metal at du-metal.blogspot.com/2013/09/song-list.html . There is also an amazing 88 episode collection on KZbin of ‘Learning Japanese with Babymetal’, by Duane-Metal (no relation to each other, oddly, just similar names), which covers every song on the first 2 albums with beautifully narrated facts and clear visual imagery. ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZixkqN-nZx7mas ). Both are clearly very dedicated guys who’ve done great jobs. You comment on Su’s vocals and it’s true she has the most beautiful voice (soprano with a range from C3 to G#4, apparently) and it has matured well over the years since this performance when she was 16/17. One of her most moving solo ballads is from her 20th birthday concert in her home town of Hiroshima. No Rain, No Rainbow ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnXKoqJsm8ifn7s ) which really shows how she’s come on over the years. Other solo performance are available, as are duets from Moa-Metal and Yui-Metal, especially the Limp Bizkit style Metal Rap of Onedari Daisakusen, which will give a guaranteed smile while you watch ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIKconWglLCkiJo ). One last thing (yes, we Babymetal fans can go on a bit but we do like to get new acolytes...sorry, fans...to join our (definitely #NotaCult) fan base). As you clearly enjoyed the, as you so nicely phrased it, “dirty and disgusting...ly good” sound of Babymetal and like it heavy, then I have to direct you to their song Death, specifically when they did it for Su’s 16th birthday concert. It is the most Metal thing I have ever seen! WTF? moments galore - guaranteed! ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIPGapeYnM51hqs ). Did I say “One last thing...” already? Just wanted to add that the cute and heavy sound is Babymetal’s new genre of Metal, Kawaii (cute) Metal. I promise to keep any further comments to a shorter length. Comparatively, anyway! Kitsune (the Fox God hand sign) up, as we say!

Babymetal is a burst of energy, that's why Babymetal live is best Babymetal. :-) A Babymetal show is some of the best shows in the world right now. Because of what Babymetal is the mosh pits are usually circle pits and not that aggressive.

Plus the drummer Hideki Aoyama. And Leda (Leda Cygnus) played a lot with them in earlier years. All legendary performers. Allthough we know them and admire and love them, formally they are session musicians for BABYMETAL. Some others have played in the Kami Band, but not enough to become legends among us, except maybe spare drummer Yuya Maeta who is also legend-level but has a relatively limited number of performances. In addition to these, there is an additional new international Kami Band formed for a recent US tour and was also on the recent European tour since the original Kamis had too many schedule conflicts. They are very good, but have not reached legend level yet -- time will tell if they get there; They are new yet.

Loved your 3 reviews of BM. I am 52 , seen hundreds of great bands over the years (like Pink Floyd back in their heyday) and can safely say having seen these girls live 3 times they were the best bloody concerts ever! Seriously the music is amazing live, you feel it in your bones. But what makes it is Su-metal's vocals - girl sings through (not over) the music and damn what stage presence. Never seen another musican (except maybe Freddie Mercury) who could control an audience like she does. They rock hard and fast for an hour - god knows how. If you ever get a chance see them live. My aim is now to see one of their japanese arena gigs as they are legendary.

I agree and disagree with you, I have seen them twice, Orlando and Stockholm this tour, I have also seen Queen (1980) and Led Zeppelin (twice, 1977 & 1980) BABYMETAL are equal to both those bands in music composition and execution, as far as commanding the audience, BABYMETAL wins, and like you, I want to see them in Japan, in a arena setting, that's why I have already booked a 10 day vacation in Tokyo in early October...

But first things first: you should make yourself a better full idea of what they look like and sound, so may I suggest you: Road of Resistance (Live in Japan): kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIWoioh8nLGpm7s Akatsuki (Live at Budokan Black Night): kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWOWaGV5arV9gq8 Megitsune (official music video): kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXyWf4CQdrp-fdk Enjoy!

I feel the choreography in this song is the most complex of all the Babymetal songs (so far). Su-Metal insists on the fans being pumped up before starting. It’s more of a party than a song. In later versions, the Kami band does a fantastic solo to introduce CMIYC. Those versions are even more awesome.

Fun fact - there's no body slams or elbowing in a BABYMETAL mosh pit. They're all about harmony, unity, and acceptance, so the moshers just gather, run around, and act a little crazy, lol.

The Babymetal hole goes deep, but if you want a break from that why not try out Wind Rose's Diggy Diggy Hole. It's a song with an interesting history. At the start, like ten years ago, there was a meme in the Minecraft community about dwarves digging holes. The comedy troupe Yogcast turned it into a song, and then later added a fairly simple animated video to go with it. Now last year the band Wind Rose, who are an Italian metal band that specialize in dwarf themed songs with a lot of Lord of the Rings references, did a metal cover of it. It's a fun watch.

The best disciption I've heard of Babymetal. They are like hello kitty, in DM's, smashing your head in with a baseball bat. Just a warning, Japanese bands are like a drug once you start it's really hard to stop. Next for Babymetal - Road of Resistance. 2 other Japanese bands you may like: Band-Maid - Real Existence Unlucky Morpheus - Black Pentagram

Nothing against this song, but I wouldn't even need it, I could just watch the girls bouncing around shouting "hai" for a whole evening. :-) Glad you liked it, I get a feeling that you are going down the foxhole quickly. BABYMETAL are the complete package, it's not just the music, there's the dancing, the energy, the smiles, the crowds, and as you said, the charisma. There's nothing else like it, in my opinion. Another must-see performance is "Road of Resistance" live in Japan: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIWoioh8nLGpm7s. Particularly if you like Dragonforce, you'll love this.

Babymetal of course looks weird, but they are "just" an iteration of the idol groups. The girls are doing almost the same as they do in "Sakura Gakuin", the idol group from Babymetal was born as the "Heavy music club". They have already experience in singing, dancing and even perform in public. Idol groups songs are also catchy and fun, so there is really no big change for them. Just check this example where they are also like part of the group kzbin.info/www/bejne/enjPe2WGe5eribs The main singer Suzuka is easy to see, the other two maybe a little more difficult, but one easy hint. They are the smallest of all. Change the music for a "poppy" metal, the uniforms and you have almost all the work done. Also, the lyrics and songs of Babymetal changes along the years. Think that Babymetal is almost a decade old and the girls grow. They starts as small childs and now they are young women. Think in Babymetal more like a "Las Vegas" show but in heavy metal. If you´re interested in "true metal bands" in the traditional sense (i´m not saying Babymetal aren´t metal, they just are not a band in a traditional way) check for example Aldious or Lovebites. Both all female and incredibly talented. In hard rock, near metal you have Band Maid. Maybe one of the most talented bands not just in Japan, but in the world (no joke, they really are)
