Nice picks, and some good classics. For me, the 'best' thrash metal album ever delivered and will never be topped (par my definition of what pure thrash metal should be) is "Dark Angel's- Darkness Descends".Cheers, Al

Another great year in metal video guys what I always like when you do these year deep dives is the classics always get shown but also those rare albums that never got the break they deserved back in the day

Great discussion for sure! I love Ratt's 'Invasion of Your Privacy'. I owned it on second hand casette in the 90's. The song structures and the guitar tones and the vocals were great. Very different from the other tapes in my collection (punk/crust/grind) but it was more than just a guilty pleasure. I loved the feel of it and I owned up to it proudly at a time when my friends threw me the crook eye for popping it into the car's tape deck.

Sepultura: Morbid Visions, is an essential '86 album. Always liked it, but it wasn't until after I got into black metal, that I truly appreciated and loved it. Sepultura was among the innovators of the extreme side of metal but hey don't get talked about much these days.

I quit after Chaos AD, which can't compare with Arise. Morbid Visions is, imo, their most seminal record. It works for them a bit like Welcome to Hell and is definitely the album i enjoy listening the most. It moves your militant side.

That Exumer album is "Show No Mercy" meets "Bonded By Blood". There's a track on it called "Fallen Saint" and has one of the main riffs from "Black Magic". They really show their influences on that one.

Being as I was 19 , 1986 was a huge year for me. Maybe the best. So much good stuff . I was already heavily into Slayer , Megadeth ,. Metallica and Megadeth and I remember discovering a slew of other bands at the time.

Obsessed by Cruelty is one of my all time favorites. The Steamhammer is much better in my opinion. After the Deluge was recorded with their session guitarist and that track was not recorded during the first session i.e. the US and CD-version.

OBC is a Metalhead's Rite of Passage. You'll never forget the experience. In 86 i was already 23 but it was still a life-changing event. It is the ancestral sound of the Pit where all things dark in Metal come from...

I think what Alan said in his intro if the very reason I didn't quite connect with the standard traditional heavy metal. I got into all this at the tale end on 86 and it was all glam metal or thrash metal. I love both but apart from Iron Maiden I tended to side step the traditional stuff. Great episode. Quite a few I've no idea about in this stack that was shown.

... in the meantime, never letting Deathrow's Riders of Doom fall into obliveon. 1986 is a Betelgeuse of a Metal year, but still i would like to highlight Manilla Road's The Deluge, Sepultura's Morbid Visions, Destruction's Eternal Devastation, just for instance, because they're so many. Another important aspect is the few albums recorded in 86 and released only years later - the real first Necrophagia (NOT Season of the Dead) and Morbid Angel albums are both from 86! ...and then of course, there was RANDY!

Some things from my vinyl collection that I don't believe got mentioned last night were Piledriver's "Stay Ugly" and Helloween's "Judas". Granted Piledriver were a bit a bit of a comedic spoof project, but the two albums released under the name truly stand out in my opinion. Helloween's "Judas" was an EP so perhaps it didn't qualify, but it clocks in at nearly 30 minutes. Saint Vitus's "EP "The Walking Dead" is another great 1986 release. The somewhat obscure Tension (Marty Friedman's former band) released a tremendous LP in '86 entitled "Breaking Point". On the hardcore side, Agnostic Front's "Cause For Alarm" and GBH's "Midnight Madness And Beyond" are perennial favorites.
