I'm 24 and the most important advice I would give advice I would give myself four years ago (When I started working out) is that there is a difference between using your brain and using your ego when lifting weights. Benched 140 kg had pecs of a minor. Went to do light weights. And got my first tits in my life. Its very simple we all just over analyze it. You need to learn to adress each and every muscle you have. As soon as you do that your training will work. The amount of shoulder and tricep you can cheat with in a bench press is stunning.. bodybuilding is a sadistic/machochistic form of extreme seæf control by getting awareness of your body and then massacre it completely by bringing it to failure.

I'm older (56) and rather muscular, but I haven't had new gains in years until I followed his advice. No more tendon injuries lifting heavy weights. And don't let the lighter weights fool you, Doing 3 sets of 30 reps with a weight that causes failure around that 30 rep range is a much more intense and painful workout than my old heavy weight 10-12 rep range. Following this method, I have added almost an inch to my arms in less than 2 months. The only downside was that I had to buy larger shirts.
@Ron-cx5ms2 жыл бұрын
Consider me convinced
@jamesnm212 жыл бұрын
If you want even more tricep destruction add several partial reps to the top of each full rep. By the time you've done 10 reps you'll have about 50-60 partials already on the clock. Eventually the triceps should start locking up, forcing a short rest between reps. Each subsequent rep should go up fairly easy but your arms will lock up again on the partials. This concentrates the intensity at the same spot every time and allows good form to be maintained. Then when you do subsequent sets at various angles/grips in the same manner you hit different areas of your triceps until they're toast.

Wise words here. Having trained consistently for the last 37 years, I've done unnecessary damage by losing that connection when going too heavy (eg. full pec tear, etc). Approach this craft with the long haul in mind. You want to be solid, strong and healthy enough to be doing this well into your 50's, 60's and beyond. Curb the heavy weight vanity. I know, that's not easy. But it will pay off.

If you keep using the lighter weight it will not be the same after a while. What was light in the beginning will have to get heavier over time. If you can keep going you will eventually be using a pretty high weight for these exercises. 20lb pounds will be higher over time to keep it challenging. Imagine how big and well developed you will be and legitimately strong.

I'm relearning old lessons thanks to Ryan. 33 year old lifter here and been lifting pretty much continuously since age 15. Had a powerlifting phase and Oly lifting phase then a CrossFit phase from 15 to 19. CrossFit reps for speed ended up giving me a nice herniation which took me years to recover from without surgery. In the meantime, my lifting went from fun to gingerly lifting as heavy as I could without aggravating my joints TOO much. But I didn't really learn my lesson. I have always done progressive lifting schemes in terms of weight but never really enjoyed low and slow. At 33 though my body feels beat up. Mild shoulder aches, moderate back aches, hip aches are all starting to build up. I recently switched to low and slow rep schemes and I'm still getting great results but as others have said, definitely less joint pain. Low and slow is the way to go!

I’ve started using DUP. I train one on one off and I used to love Dorian Yates early style of training using his 3x week split. But training that heavy and intensely especially when your hitting arms indirectly and directly 3x week causes nasty strains tendinitis in my left shoulder and right elbow. So I do 2 heavy days followed by 2x lighter days. Lee Haney apparently used to train like this. It’s helped with the injuries and it keeps the muscles working in a different way. It’s also more enjoyable because your not committing to one rep range your alternating it and it works the muscles in different ways

Prior to this change most of my sets were in the 12/15 reps range which gave me a good pump and all but no noticeable growth. So my thought was f*ck it I guess I am just too old to grow muscle anymore - which I guess in some aspects is true. My son convinced me to take it back down to more sets and less reps with heavier weight which I tried for a while and while yes, I did get a nice pump....I started to experience more post workout pain and small injuries that caused me to miss workouts. Well being retired now, I want to spend more time in the gym not less. Found this channel and it has changed things tremendously for me. Thanks brother.

have you heard of he 3/7 training method? I read about it just over a month ago and have been getting good results since trying it. But I don't stick to just one exercise per body part. I'll do this for two body parts in a day with 3-4 different movements for each body part at 70% of 1 rep max. pump is insane at the end and can barely move from fatigue as I average 600 + reps. Downfall is I'm there 1.5 hrs. This week I switched up to old way of 4 sets of 12 per body part and 3-4 movements per body part, just to switch things up. I haven't worked out in about 15 years and been using a lot of movements you show and really like how they hit the muscles I work that day.

In my home gym I have adjustable dumbbells that go up to 71.5lbs. Since I can bench more weight than that, I got a set of bands. The strongest band barely lets me get 3-5 reps on dumbbell bench presses. I'd love to get larger dumbbells, but everyone knows that now is not the best time since the price per lb of weights is sky high because of COVID. I also love doing slow reps to make a given weight feel much heavier.

I've recently adapted this mindset lately where I do heavy weight, high reps (with proper form). The results speak for themselves. Get out of that mentality that you can't and accept the fact that you are stronger than you give yourself credit for. Awesome videos, keep on rockin 🤘

I see so many people in the gym using their whole body to lift weights working on one body part. Rocking back and forth to do standing bicep curls etc. Looks scary sometimes.thanks for the vids

I just started doing a higher volume routine, after doing moderate/high weight/reps for years. I have been amazed how much the lighter weight more reps has been destroying me every morning. It humbled me, that's for sure. Also, I'd love it if you followed me around to slam that red button lmfao.

I do believe that heavy compound lifts are beneficial for growth, but the issue is that most turn it into an ego lift and that’s how the injuries happen. With that said, I think lifting “lighter” is generally more helpful because you can concentrate the contraction more. This has been more helpful for me lately. But if you can lift a heavy weight with good form, then right on with it
