It could also be dry skin, if it is you should try hedgehog and friends coconut quills.

in a few days i’m gonna call up all the vets in my area and see who will take hedgies! i’m getting the setup done soon and have already started a vet fund. the cage was ordered yesterday and will be buying the heating and fleece in a week or so once i get around $50-$60. i’ll be taking my hedgie to the vet about a week after i get them just to be sure they don’t have anything especially cause i’m planning on buying him from this one pet store i go to :3

Help! I just got my hedgehog 5 days ago and I’m already seeing some strange behavior! First, she stopped running on her wheel. She ran on her wheel for two days and then suddenly stopped. I wasn’t too worried about this until I saw two little bumps under her chin. I just noticed these a few hours ago. They are two little hard substances that are in her skin and can be moved around. When I touched them to see what was going on, she didn’t show any sign of pain. She has been eating, drinking, pooping, and peeing. She just hasn’t ran on her wheel and has those bumps under her chin. Please help! Should I bring her to a vet?

Hi, my hedgehog is recovering from an eye prolapse! luckily for her my friend's mom is a vet spetialized in eyes so she was able to reintroduced the eye without any complication. It was very scary for me. Love your videos!

Hi, my mom will not bring my hedgehog to the vet. My hedgehog is peeing blood. I woke up one morning and there was dark blood everywhere. What do I do? I have been giving her unsweetened cranberry juice. I don’t know if it is helping though. The weird thing is she had no blood anywhere on her stomach and she seemed normal.

We took my hedgie to the vet and while we were there we asked the vet what these two large bumps were on his lower stomach , she told us they were his testicles , but we don’t think that’s it. They have gotten much larger over the past month. They pop out from under his bottom. Does anyone know what they are , and how to help it

You should do a mite video, I took in a hedgie who's previous owner didn't have time due to 70 hour work weeks, and when I got him he has blue coloring on him, not too worried about that, but he has mites and i'm a first time hog-mom! Hello, My hedgie is about a year old and I’m concerned because in the last week she has been losing a lot of quills and is constantly scratching. I am worried that she has mites that might have come from her bedding. When I first got her, I used a hypo-allergenic bedding but she was sneezing constantly and I switched bedding again but yet another reaction occurred. I have been using newspaper lately which stopped the sneezing and reaction, but I am worried that if she does have mites they are coming from the newspaper. If she is allergic to common types of pet store bedding and is at risk of getting mites from newspaper, what type of bedding do you recommend that will prevent both from occurring? Hi, so my hedgehog is having dehydration before. Now she is wobbly and lethargic, not eating or drinking, although she eat some of mealworm that I gave her and I tube drinking her. This condition is lasts for 3 day now. Before dehydration, she is actively running in wheel. How can I save her and get her in shape before she is sick? Well I got a question I have had my headghog since he was an adult so he's full grown he's like 7 or 8ish anyways my dad's friend took him and they got into a car wreck when I got him he's was completely fine I just cleaned out his cage and everything he ate and drank water but a couple of minutes later he started make squiky noises It was raining when I got him beacause they got into a really bad car accident in the rain so I had to take him out of the car in the rain so idk if he got a bit sick beacause of the cold he's resting now but he ate and everything I'm just worried he got sick my dad's friend is ok she went to the hospital and they said she was fine but I guess when she had him he had really bad diarrhea

Hi! So my hedgie is veryy slowly but surely coming around and I have been giving him foot baths but I want to give him his first bath. I've been holding off bc he's been so timid but I've had him for a month and he needs one especially bc he's getting dry skin. I know you have a video for bathing your hedgehogs but my question is how to deal with him if he starts to freak out/ in your experience have your hedgehogs completely freaked out while giving them their first baths.

Just stay calm. He may try and run but you can keep the water shallow and just pour water over him if he isn’t tolerating it well. The best way to get them used to it is repetition, so better to just dive in now!

dominic eastman Just bond with it! Learn its background first to see what it was like as a baby. When it gets used to you, there should be no problem with it “not liking you”! You have to bond with it every day though even if you just put it on your lap :) They are natural explorers so I’m sure you won’t get bored being with it!

Melissa Doherty It depends! Sometimes when a baby hedgehog is clumsy it will damage or poke its eye(s) out with its quills but as a hedgehog gets older it learns to control its quills so typically when it is a year + it should not be any risk of the hedgehog poking its eye out or damaging it! If a hedgehog also has a background of abuse or neglect it will tend to hurt itself with its quills so overall if the hedgehog is an adult and has no background of neglect there is a very slim chance (like 2 out of 10 chance) that a hedgehog will poke its eye out :)

Any pet you get can get sick, so IMO they aren't anymore of a risk than any other pet. Make sure you have a vet availible and you can afford treatment if need be. I've never heard that you can get salmonella from them haha

lovelivesimply She has a video on how much hedgehogs cost which you should watch! Do your research before trying to get one though! They are pretty high maintenance animals :) People also usually get them from a breeder which you have to find yourself. I personally bought mine from a non-chain pet store that I trust and that takes care of their animals!

How do you know if your hedgehog has mites or is quilling? Mine scratches a lot but doesn't doesn't loose quills in patches. Thanks for the vid!

Quilling typically comes at certain ages and usually is accompanied by quill regrowth. Mites causes a lot of scratching and quill loss, as well as excessively dry skin. If you’re unsure, I’d consult a vet!

Our local vets are utter trash! They're service require huge expenses for every treatment and would often just ask you to visit another vet which is very far away from our area and above all, THEY'RE ALWAYS CLOSED! My whippet died two years ago because of their incompetence and if my mother was around that time, we might have saved him!
