@Commendatore if I'm not mistaken 2002 is still a mk6 ( not 100% sure ). A friend of mine has an earlier shaped model Fiesta which is still flying through its m.o.t,s so rust shouldn't be too much of a problem.

My kids have one of these. Its a genuinely brilliant little car. It has well balanced controls slick gear change nippy little engine. Starts on the button runs perfectly, they have had it 4 years now and never had problem. I service it once a year every 6000 miles. They took it to uni and they love it. The plug wells can fill up with water as the rain leaks past the washer jets on the bonnet. So it sealed mine with silicone.. We had a precautionary cam belt done at 100k and I noticed after like you it had oil in the plug wells. So I bought a new cam gasket and some loctite around the cam ends and now it's completely leak free.

I bought my 17 year old daughter an '08 plate 1.4 Mk5 in July this year. 67k, FSH, in pretty good condition. I've had a fair number of Fords over the years, and like many of them it drives beautifully. The 1.4 petrol engine is a peach, surprisingly torquey. I'm keeping an eye on potential corrosion as there's some surface rust under the bonnet and suspension members, but for now its been an excellent buy with no regrets.

My Zafira was having a slight Rocker cover gasket leak too, (if you remember me rambling on about it in the tomcat stream) however that car just threw in the towel after its limp mode shenanigans, the starter motor gave out and snapped, a camshaft cap was also a little loose, (along with sensor and timing problems) thankfully its gone to a mate who can part it out or get it running, we now have a full service history 2002 Rover 75 Diesel estate in gold and everything works apart from an interior light and tape deck, given it a mild detail and what a powerful monster it is, new trims applied and the exterior is mint apart from an odd scuff, all for £1000! Had all the fancy gizmos added by the previous owner (even a 6 slot CD changer!) and she runs beautifully! It's like a fancy wood grain Bentley inside, very posh!

I bought one of these last year, a 2007 1.4 Zetec, to replace a newer car on a pcp which I sold back to the dealer and it’s a great little car. Starts first time, the heater is the best in any car I’ve had and the body is so clean and shiny. It has a few battle scars from its 109k, I replaced the cracked front bumper with one from a local breakers in correct colour. So cheap to fix and run! One thing, the heated front screen is nearly kaput. But the good heater makes up for it. Great to drive, I’m going to keep it as long as I can.

My mum has a fiesta like this, however it's an 03 plate, and we've had it since 2013... we've made some really nice memories in our little fifi and we can't see us needing to swap her anytime soon. She's scared us to death on several occasions, first with faulty sparkers, so she constantly juddered, second with a slipping clutch, third when we couldn't get her in gear (the mechanics didnt refit the linkage properly when she had her new clutch), and four when she bust a spring and sounded like half the floor had fallen off and was being dragged along beneath her🥴🥴 but she's a beautiful car now!

Well done! Snap - A few months ago my Brother left ( free) a Fiesta identical to this here in my yard for my Granddaugher to learn to drive in. This one doesn't have the scrapes and bashes but unfortunately it has a much more serious problem. The clutch cylinder leaks and in order to sort this, the whole engine would have to come out . Apparently the clutch cylinder can be made to work by adding fluid through a pump ( which he left in the boot) once a week. This is all very well for an old petrol head but not really practical for a teenage learner driver. I thought you took a bit of a chance buying a battery, plugs and filters before ascertaining whether the car was going to be worth it. Luckily it turned out ok.

Luckily I have a trade account as I buy so many bits so could return them if it was a disaster! Maybe a good garage knows work around to get it out without the engine coming out, as its an otherwise good car it would be worth doing even if it costs the same as a replacement

I have a 04 Fiesta that had the same issue with the bonnet not closing resulting in a MOT failure. Months of swapping out 2 latches and endless adjusting did not fix the problem then a Ford mechanic gave a great tip. With the bonnet on the first latch lift it with all your strength, which is counterintuitive as you naturally try and slam it harder and harder. This pulls the bonnet catch back into shape and worked straight away.

I hope those blackberries do not leave a permanent stain or the T cut will be needed but with the scrapes and dents will just add character to the motor. Never needed AC in the UK, the heater was more important, just open a bloody window if too hot inside and just leave a couple open a tad when parked in the sun with a towel over the steering wheel to stop it getting too hot to touch. Leaving a window open 5 - 10 mm is often a problem with modern electric windows that close automatically when ignition switched off.

That's now been passed onto her daughter after she got rid of her Fiat Grande Punto. I've borrowed one of them whenever my car has repairs or maintenance. Fun and nippy, little cars to drive. The bonnet not closing could be the same issue as my newly aquired bong box Fiesta - the stupid hammerhead shark shaped plastic handle for the bonnet keeps protruding if you just drop the bonnet (as on most other cars where the bonnet closes with a boomybangyringing sound when dropped from 10 ish centimeters up) - but if you push the bonnet closed, it might work. In a well working specimen this Fiesta is a fun drive especially in the 1.6 or 2.0, but typical Ford shoddy quality and finish makes it subpar if it has to be wrenched on. A pretty funny and zippy bowl of cheap plastic.😂

Seatbelts: big bowl of hot soapy water and a cloth and a spring-clamp to keep them out so they can dry. Wet-n-dry vacuum cleaner to suck the water and grot out of them. Give them a really good hot wet scrub. Maybe use a nailbrush on the worst grot. Leave them clipped out to dry and then spray silicone lubricant on them and they will look, smell and work like new.

Great video, and perfect timing. I've just bought a 2005 Zetec 1.25 with 18000 miles.😀

Nice to see an old Fez get some love . My sister just traded in our late grandads one 07 plate one. Wish i could have kept it, but 6 cars already here😭 👎 horrible car to work on though, changed a front spring on it and starter motor. Had to take full strut off as mounting bolt was now part of the hub. Bolts made of cheese lol

It hadn’t occurred to me how many of these must have been scrapped by now. I can’t remember the last time I saw a pre-facelift model on the road.

Old Focuses from the same era are almost all gone and they used to be everywhere. Older Escorts are all gone. Shocking how quickly some cars disappear off the roads.

Can't believe it that this little big car is from 2005, or I might be getting old, ... that might be it. That black trim seriously still looks black and in good shape, like it would have been inside a garage for a long time away from UV. I would definitely love to see a cleanup and detail of that car. .. and maybe the response of the person when you hand them over the keys.

This was brilliant, a cross between Bramble the MK3 Cortina @ Pete C's Cortina City and Vice Grip Garage. More like this please. Oh and yeah, a Fiesta detailing video would be awesome. Can't wait.

High mileage, neglected and bashed when used, and sat for months, then it just fires up first try! Any car that wants to live that bad would earn my respect.

Amazed it started so easily with plugs that oily... usually a sign of cam cover gasket gone brittle/not sealing anymore.

My weekend has started off wel, because there's a new FD video, yeey! With brambles -poor you, I'm sure the owner will be grateful for your valiant effort. Yes please on the proposed Fiesta washing video :-) That is indeed an annoying airfilter to get to, however there are worse; think of BMWs E46-E39 era engines; the airfilter is almost 'inside' the engine gubbins and to get to it, you need to take a whole lot of stuff out. Engineering wise a good place to put it, service wise a bugger. Those Duratec engines are indeed very sturdy; we have one in our Volvo and it's giving great service.

Good to this freebie Fiesta back on the road. Good work. It may have a few battle scares but it will probably clean up well, so let’s see a wash video.

7:37 actually is a very common problem with these engines. Luckly it's a 10€ fix (head cover gasket).

My first car was a fiesta with that same engine, my rocker cover gasket went the same way, changed it myself, was really easy, gasket and a couple of spots of gasket paste cured it

Cracking Video, good to see this little fiesta being saved, perfect car to learn to drive in. My dad had a couple of these a 1.4 Duratec and then a 1.25 that came from the channel islands. Always called these a mini focus. Sure it was not the Merc draining the power again?? Iirc there was a issue with the fuel guages that they got recalled for or it may have been a problem with the digital display my dad had.
