Very informative and applies to any vehicle using a CV axles. Most garages will say that this it just laborious, they will suggest to do a full replacement of the axle joint.

Thanks for the video. I did this job about a year ago and learned something new in your video...those bands on the inner CV joint are called double rolled bands for a reason, hahah. I rolled it once, used the tool, set the punch. Its been good though, no issues.

Just got my axles swapped on my Acura TSX (JUST bought the car used). They were aftermarket, so there is still a tiny bit of wobbling around 40km/hr. Shop says it's intermediate shaft, but I'm not so sure. I picked up my old factory axles, and am thinking of ordering this kit. Is it worth trying to install the kit on the after market axle? And is it true that the passenger side is USUALLY the culprit? Thanks!
@Kylesasian8 ай бұрын
did you ever end up doing just the passenger side? also did you rebuild the oem or aftermarket axle?
@tonyisme49344 ай бұрын
At 240000 mi I'm re-booting my LH side driver side axle. Spider bearings are still good there's no wobble on the axle. I bought a super high quality heavy equip black moly NLGI #2 Swepco grease. I figure these axles have lasted 26 years and they were built well the game from the factory so I'm just going to keep them going. Dont trust parts store axles. I used Honda boots, on the remaining boots I used 303 marine Aerospace conditioner and ATP 205 reseal for rubber.

What was the condition of half shaft main bearing. Don't want to get caught out with doing the 3 bearing kit change and find out it was the half shaft bearing. Although it is definitely the 3 bearing joint set that wiggling around up down in and out

Main shaft bearing? You mean, the Jack Shaft / intermediate shaft carrier bearing? I didn't inspect it. I've never seen one go bad.
@bronniesboy Жыл бұрын
@@Heeltoe. That's the fella 😅! Yes the carrier bearing feels solid but soon as you move out toward the wheel, the bucket🪣 that houses the 3 ring bearing set feels loose. This is the only loose item left. Everything else has been changed, drplks, shks and top hat, upper wishbone. Lower ball joint and lower wishbone solid. No vibrations from the shaft but just constant knocking/clonking at moderate town speeds

After the inner joint job, if the outer cv is not leaking or giving any symptoms is it still worth pulling back the boot to regresse, or is it a matter of if it ain't broke don't fix it

I'm rebuilding my OEM inner CV boot for my 2012 Honda Si. The boot finally tore after 200K and caused vibration at high speeds. long story short. Installed a Duralast Gold brand from Autozone, now my car is vibrating at 20-25 mph stops and disappears comes back at 80mph. smh. Honda said they have a national back order on OEM parts with no ETA. No worries though. There's salvage junkyards and ebay motors.

I have a question. I had a bad axle that was causing shaking at highway speeds I got them replace at a shop with new aftermarket axles and it fixed my issue. But right after they were replaced I now have a vibration at 25mph only that was not there before. If I accelerate quickly I don't even feel it. I believe aftermarket axle is causing this. But is it ok to drive with it this way ? I have been for 3 months now and it has not gotten worse or anything.

8 years later: Took a pothole very hard during the night. It was completely dark - couldn`t see a sh*t. My lower ball joint simply popped up. Same for the CV axle. I had to call for a "platform" to get back home. When I removed the boot from cv axle - I was wondering why the ballbearings came so easily from the tripod! I wonder if from the shock did I lose some parts, bot no. There is nothing to hold them in place.
@src4409 Жыл бұрын
The whole front suspension works in unison to hold the cv axle in.
@Heeltoe. Жыл бұрын
They came apart because the ball joint allowed the axle to stretch and it dislodged the bearings. As you can see the video shows how it is assembled.
@moccina8 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial. Wouldn't it make more sense, since you have to dissassemble the knuckle anyway, to just replace the complete inner & outer assembly with a new cv joint, and do the hub bearings & ball joints while you have everything apart ?
@Heeltoe.8 жыл бұрын
That does make sense if the other parts mentioned are bad as well. But there is little point in replacing parts that are not worn out, or may have recently been replaced. The point of this method is really that there is minimal disassembly. This inner joint itself is a common issue with this car, and so it likely need replacement much sooner than the other items you are talking about. And lastly, removing the large nut at the end of the axle is difficult for a DIY person at home, and this method shows how to the inner joint without messing with the outer nut.
@moccina8 жыл бұрын
HeeltoeAuto Ah yes, the axle nut is a bear. Nothing a 3/4 inch socket and giant breaker bar can't handle though. But I get your point.

Soooo, the part I'm missing is how did you remove the inner CV joint initially? Those steps would be helpful, as the video starts with the inner CV already out of the transmission.
@Heeltoe.6 жыл бұрын
That step is pretty basic. You remove the lower ball joint and lower shock fork mount, then pop the axle from the transmission with a pry-bar.

Yes, it takes care of the vibration. I had the same issue, the inner cv joint on the passenger side was worn. I bought the kit from Heel Toe which is a lil cheaper compared to buying all the parts from the dealer. Alternately you can purchase remanufactured OEM axles from the dealer (which costs the same and you get two joints assembled instead of one), but youll have to deal with the core charge and return the original.

This is a reasonably solution SOMETIMES but not usually for late model cars. The TSX in particular DOES NOT respond well to aftermarket axles. Vibrations will continue. This is THE BEST solution we have found to fixing TSX axle vibration to date.

@Heeltoe. Жыл бұрын
No I don't work on airplanes. The inside of the socket did not have enough relief to allow the tripod to fully seat. You don't have to do it they way I do. This is how the parts go together, and clearly you can get it done your own way. The fact I used a hammer when you would not do so does not invalidate the point of the video.
