Finally the fire pit is lit, oh how I've been waiting for this! Lindsay is always a joy to listen to.

And this is why whenever we hear them talking about "the science," we have to listen very carefully to what they're saying. Very often they are talking about things which are not science or even science-adjacent, but sound "sciencey" and serve their means. And we can't fight against it because, of course, that means we are "science deniers," and we are completely shut down when we have an actual argument to refute their stupid crap.

I always think of it as The Science (TM). Edit: They want to cite The Science (TM), not the scientists…because scientists are individuals with different hypotheses and conclusions that don’t always align with the predetermined outcomes of The Science (TM).

All I can say is: WOW, what rich quality content sustained in this amazing 7-part series. I'll add: read Hick's "Explaining Postmodernism" and also read "Cynical Theories" which was co-authored by James Lindsay with Helen Pluckrose. I have studied both books and those works live up to the promise of intellectual quality that these two scholars display quite enjoyably in this live video series.

Yes, when the left says "trust the science," they definitely mean trust our talking head "experts." After this episode, I'm going to start calling that "science" philisophical alchemy. It isn't really science at all. (I'm tired of the left changing the definitions of everything.) Appreciate the alchemy analogy, James!

@@eliakimbenishchayil - Whether Hegel is a leftist or not is irrelevant to the point made by the original commenter. It also doesn’t matter if Marx had other influences. So long as Marx and leftists have been influenced by Hegel, I think the original comment can stand.

We are trying to preserve something … trying to conserve our way of life. Much more difficult than what the opposition is doing - essentially bringing about fundamental change by demolition. They want to level to the ground the house we both live in, because the roof leaks, without ever considering where we’re going to live during it’s so-called reconstruction. Build back better indeed!

Analysis takes things apart and assesses their interrelation in a system...Synthesis seeks to take things as a whole. Why not have an approach that chooses when to best employ one or the other? We could call it common sense
@georginawhitby13203 жыл бұрын
That's true, be t it's not what Hegel is talking about. Hegel is selling something much closer to certain kinds of kaballistic formula where the man-as- god power hierarchies and power tactics sit above and invert all prior knowledge and systems of truth.

@@georginawhitby1320 Agreed...Hegel and Hegelians have fetishized the magical triad of thesis-antithesis-synthesis...I purposely juxtapose synthesis to analysis to rescue the concept from this unjustified mystification. After all, providing a nice synthesis of complex matters can be very useful.👍🏻

It’s videos like this that convince me that James Lindsay is ignorant on purpose. He seems to understand the problem or issue and then denies it or disregards it because….reasons that he also denies and disregards.

@kristopher thomas just want to say, my question was genuine. (My questions always are, but I’m aware that that’s often not the case when people talk, especially on social media.) If you wanna elaborate more on your comment, I’d appreciate it very much. I haven’t read Hegel myself. Yet. And, when I yesterday, just as an example, was trying to find out what Hegels dialectics really was…every person/video had a different take. And in the comments section under each of the videos, there were people saying “you got this all wrong, you don’t know what you’re talking about”. James is a great, GREAT storyteller. And I’ve learned a lot listening to him - that however does not mean that I think everything he says is the truth, and I wanna know more. Thanks.
