About Dude Dad:
Hi! I'm Taylor Calmus, a Colorado-based actor/comedian. I started Dude Dad© two weeks before my son Theo was born as a way to stay creative while learning to be a father. My wife Heidi and I now have 3 kids and over 300+ videos. My purpose for the channel is to entertain, enlighten and inspire.
In addition to Dude Dad©, I have been in numerous TV shows, commercials, and have regular appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live. I will also be hosting my own TV show called "Super Dad" on the new Magnolia Network / Discovery+. Heidi and the kids will also be a part of the show. I am originally from the rural community of Howard, South Dakota.

My 4th trimester was 24 years ago. I totally related to nursing/pumping in public. Worst for me was taking my baby to a celtic festival & him needing to nurse... i needed a quiet shady area, but every shady area was packed with people! I finally found a spot, sat down, got lil man settled and suddenly, surrounded by men staring & a few women glaring and all were muttering. I even had a blanket tossed over baby, even though it was nearly 100 degrees out. Finally, this lovely much older lady hobbled over and... well, she's my hero. Told them that if it bothered them, why were they staring? How would THEY feel if she came and stared at them eating THEIR lunch, or taking a pee? Then... she guarded me & told me to pull that blanket off the baby before he suffered heatstroke. Bless you, Ms Betty. I hope you're still out there, protecting moms from idiots. I vowed to do the same, and I give it my best. Heidi... you're doing an amazing job. I'm so glad Taylor is such a great hubs to see what's happening and more importantly, to understand WHY. These videos made me laugh, but also brought me down a memory lane I haven't really travelled down in many years. Thank you both! =D

I totally understand why people wouldn't like to see a woman nursing in public if she's not covered up because let's face it that's exposing so much breast at that point :) but if she's covered up then what the heck is the problem! I don't get it 🙄 Good for this woman for telling ppl to mind their own business!

@@tristantries9211 lol yes sometimes those dresses leave almost nothing to the imagination 😄. I was referring more to any public setting- parks, restaurants, etc. I have to wonder if some of the negative treatment comes from ignorance. I once heard a woman, who had no kids, talking about how inappropriate it was to breastfeed in public. Even with a cover on. I think that's simply ignorance. A person who has never fed a baby might simply have no idea how often you actually have to feed a baby or how long it can take sometimes. It's simply not possible to leave the house and never have to feed your baby while you're out. I wonder if some people don't understand this and that's where their hatred comes from. But I guarantee that's not everyone who gives dirty looks- some of them do have kids and should understand! Edit: Or perhaps it's some terribly outdated belief that a mom SHOULD be doing nothing but staying at home and caring for her baby. Not doing anything for her own sanity/entertainment? I could see this being a reason as well...

First off, thank you for sharing that story. It’s such a beautiful reminder that women really do need to stand up for one another rather than tear each other down. Secondly, I am both shocked and saddened by the comments on this thread. Why is it perfectly acceptable for men to go topless in public (especially at this type of an event), but heaven forbid a breastfeeding mother is going to offend women around the country and is going to magnetize men like maggots to rotten meat (perfect description for anyone who gets off on this)? It’s a pathetic, backwards, and a way, way outdated way of thinking that has GOT TO GO!!! Women, please start encouraging each other. Saying “well, she was covered up so I don’t see why people were complaining” simply isn’t acceptable these days. Women should be able to dress how they want, style their hair how they want, name their kids whatever they want, and this whole nipple debate is just ridiculous. Everyone on the planet has nipples, so why is this even a debate??? If men can expose their nipples, why can’t women? Vendor fairs don’t have places set up for mothers to feed their babies. The OP is 100% correct, she should NOT have to put her or her child in danger just so she doesn’t “offend” the other women around her. Nor should she have to worry about perverted men staring at a partially exposed nipple that is feeding her newborn. I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for people to just mind their own damn business these days?? And if they can’t manage that, then ladies, start sticking up for one another, stop making the “well at least” excuses. Anyway, thanks for reading this, and to the OP, thanks again for the lovely story

As a husband, post partum depression in my wife is one of the scariest aspects of child bearing to me. It is very refreshing to take a lighthearted moment to laugh at some of the funnier aspects. Seriously Ladies you go through so much to bring children into this world, don't let your mental health go unchecked because you have so much going on with a new child coming into this world. This was a 1960s bathroom that we hadn't remodeled. So the tile (walls and floor) was blue. The painted walls were blue. The toilet was blue. The ceiling was blue. The sink was blue. And the bathtub was blue. But he said, "how am I supposed to remember which bathroom is blue?" We had 4 bathrooms, all a DIFFERENT bright 60s color. Some guys just stink at color. Just gonna pop in here and say I had 3 babies in 3 years. Nothing prepares you for the mental shift and physical changes that your body goes through. 3 months post is not even enough time for her hormones to start regulating again. It can take up to 2 years for your hormones to go back to normal if you’re nursing. You’re doing what you can and I’m sure she appreciates it. It took me a solid 6 months each time before I started to realize I was doing the best I could and that my body would settle into its new form eventually. The darkness that come from sleep deprivation, constant pain, and intense recovery causes you to only see the mistakes you made and the imperfections you see in the mirror. I’m now 2 years out from having my last and still not ok with my body. But I’m finally starting to accept and appreciate it. This journey might be long, but it’s worth it. You’re a good husband for trying to make her see what you see. She may never see it herself, but she will see that you genuinely care. Keep showing your affection and give her grace for the first year minimum. Grace for yourself as well. After the first year you both can at least sleep at night which helps immensely. Each stage comes with even harder challenges, but you usually get more sleep with each month which makes things bearable and eventually more fun. This turned out much longer than I intended but everything she’s going through is normal and you just being there for her during the hard first year will keep your bond and love stronger. Her body will heal and transform into a new form that hopefully she can learn to love in time. That’s all any of us humans want. To feel good in our own skin 😊

Has she seen this? It won’t exactly “help” because you simply can’t control how those hormones make you feel. And you dad, just need to ride that wave with her because nothing you say will really help. I think the video will make her laugh and remind her that everything she’s feeling now is what EVERY new mother feels and that she’ll overcome it soon.

I’m also a woman who’s had two kids recently, and had a hard time accepting and appreciating my body. For me, every attempt my husband made to comment on how beautiful I was made things harder, because what he was saying didn’t line up with what I saw in the mirror. It just made me feel like my physical beauty was that important. I actually was able to accept myself more when he just loved me for who I was, and commented on the things I already was able to appreciate about myself. That gave me the room to love myself more, and then I could start to accept my new body. All that said, it is just my experience, and it took me a while to even realize that’s what I needed. Another woman’s experience may be entirely different. And responding to Heidi: they missed the insatiable thirst that comes with breastfeeding! I would get so mad when my husband emptied a water bottle without refilling it!

My kids are 16 months apart. I didn't even try to do anything when they napped, just napped with them, baby on top of me and toddler beside me. Now they're 6 and 7 and I can nap alone while they play lol. He missed (for me, at least) holding the extra stomach skin and asking what I'm supposed to do with it.

Taylor did an awesome job at capturing how so many new moms feel and what they go through everyday with a new baby. How Heidi felt with a pump on her pretty much all day is how I felt with my first baby pretty much attached to me All Day! Lol ❤ he was a feed on demand baby 😆 I'm pretty sure the amount of hair I lost could have made 2 full sized wigs out of both my pregnancies! The loss of hair is so real 😩 thank you Taylor for seeing us mama's out there and capturing it in a way that feels good. I truly miss the first year of a new babies life. That is when they needed me the most, I will never feel that needed from them in their life again. 😭

Love this!! My hair falls out like that, too and it makes me want to cry. And he totally NAILED the emotional rollercoaster. A couple other things I'd add... Telling the baby "wake up, my boobs hurt". Leaking milk through shirts and bras and on the bed. Lots and lots of laundry. Especially between spit up and breastmilk. And constantly hearing phantom baby cry (especially while showering for the first time in a week). Thank you guys for doing these! I had my third baby early this year as well. The struggle is real. 🥰

So excited to see this! I was hoping you would do this 😆 get ready. He was pretty spot on lol And as for the breastmilk, you can use it on anything! Burns scratches anything! It literally save my diabetic uncle and his knee. They had removed his leg and he formed a scab on his stub from where he tried to walk in his prosthetic and what would’ve taken him months, possibly another amputation, saved his knee! For real lol I would think I’m crazy too but it seriously works for everything. Save that crap! And let’s face it, our emotions are everywhere after a baby! Dads just don’t understand. Well, most dads I’ll say lol Please be patient with us. It isn’t our fault. “You did this!” We so need that on a tshirt lol

Taylor and Heidi! Thank you so much for your amazing channel. I found y’all almost a year ago when my husband and I started to try for our first baby. One year later and we have an amazing baby boy. My husband is military and your channel has brought me so many laughs and warmed my heart during a very tough 7 month deployment. I think I related Most to the INSANE amount of hair loss (just had baby #3 as well, in April! We were very close to on the same track, my babe actually came Way early!!), the Diastasis Recti (mine was SUPER REAL this time with an emergency c-section!) and having your heart Melt over your babe and say you’re really not done having babies (even though everything was CRAZY intense/traumatic this time around, I’m more tired with 3 three and under, and my body healing is Definitely rougher 😂). So I chose 3. Too bad. 🤣 but seriously, the hair loss is OUTTA CONTROL. Can’t think right now of anything Taylor missed, he REALLY hit the nail on the head this go!!! 🙌🏽 I was laugh-crying!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣

What I relate to most is having a husband who empathizes! I’m 2.5 weeks postpartum with our first baby. It’s a lot. Im pretty tired and my nipples are raw. But my husband has been so great taking care of both of us. He acknowledges that he can’t do the feeding, so he tries to do all the rest. He’s also been mindful to get me out of the house to keep my mental health up as well. And as a bonus task, he saved our newly renovated basement from being destroyed by flooding from the recent hurricane… two days after coming home from the hospital! We’re talking elbows deep in sewage runoff, shoveling water into the sump pump, and bleaching the floor multiple times afterward. I’m so lucky to have a supportive partner, and it looks like you are too!

I have had several of those, once my hubby parked the car with engine on to go grab something from store after a pediatrician appt. The car next to us moved and I immediately panicked and got scared our car started moving on to oncoming traffic. My heart stopped! I think this one was his best of the pregnancy videos he’s made. It really captured some of the struggles of the time and made them something I could laugh about. The extreme emotions are so real. Those hormones do crazy things to you. New moms need patience with themselves and patience from those around them as things balance out and everyone adjusts to all the changes that come with a new baby. I’m 3 weeks into 4th trimester with baby number 4 and some things are still as hard with number 4 as they were with number 1. My other 3 kids deserve lots of sympathy and gratitude for their patience with their poor hormonal mom during this time.

This 4th trimester video and reaction was so funny! My kiddo is a teenager now, but I still remember the newborn months and the rollercoaster of sleep deprived emotions. I think what sticks with me even to this day from that time is the baby-soother bounce/sway. I now consider it a dance move. 💃 I catch myself doing it even just standing in line. As a matter if fact, I had a foster kitten burrito'ed in a receiving blanket last night and was doing the bounce/sway thing as it snoozed after getting some meds on board. 😄 Thanks for the laughs, I enjoy your content a lot!

I loved laughing along with you in this video and how you acknowledged the very real truth of how good it is to be seen and acknowledged. As far as relating to the original video. The hair loss without a doubt was the most relatable... I've ended up with a bald patch in the front for my last three pregnancies (8 pregnancies, 6 living kiddos) and then as it grows out and looks like intentional layers when someone tells me my hair looks nice my response is either: thanks or this was accidental due to pregnancy hair loss 🤪😅. Thanks for the laughs!

Perfecting the one arm nursing, while picking up the house with the other hand... multi-tasking! I wasn't able to pump with the ancient home stuff available when I had my daughters, but I can relate to feeling like a walking milk machine. I loved nursing though. Going tent camping when my younger wad 4 months old was so easy without worrying about bottles, formula, etc... I used to doze off nursing, both of us lying on the bed😂 And the emotions🤪 definitely all over the place! Great job showing the real issues, but having fun with it too! 🌻

My most relatable- ALWAYS being attached to the baby or to a pump! New mom's never get a break! I pumped and nursed for the first 6 months of my son's life, my milk still was not really coming in so much and baby would get frustrated about my letdown sometimes if I waited to long to nurse. It was a very emotional time. I finally had to give up nursing and pumping because it was so draining on me physically and emotionally. I guess emotional rollercoaster is number one too. Baby Otto is so sweet! I would love to snuggle him! He makes my baby fever even more intense! You have been doing a great job Heidi! Keep it up! And Taylor has been doing great keeping an eye on you too! 😉
