About Dude Dad:
Hi! I'm Taylor Calmus, a Colorado-based actor/comedian. I started Dude Dad© two weeks before my son Theo was born as a way to stay creative while learning to be a father. My wife Heidi and I now have 3 kids and over 300+ videos. My purpose for the channel is to entertain, enlighten and inspire.
In addition to Dude Dad©, I have been in numerous TV shows, commercials, and have regular appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live. I will also be hosting my own TV show called "Super Dad" on the new Magnolia Network / Discovery+. Heidi and the kids will also be a part of the show. I am originally from the rural community of Howard, South Dakota.

I have been pregnant 6 times in 6 years. My husband got tired of people making not-so-nice jokes so after a while when people would say "Y'all know how that happens right?" he would respond "Yeah! And obviously we thoroughly enjoy it!" Most people got very uncomfortable and kinda just walked off or changed the subject. Some people at church would turn beet red! I didn't really like him saying it, but his thought was "If they are gunna bring it up, then they shouldn't get so uncomfortable when I give them an honest response!"

I had 6 children out of 9 pregnancies I understand. I was at the store with 5 of my children and a woman ask me if I had a daycare as she looked at me in a ( i can't believe she has 5 children face) when we got home my 4 year said " There are too many of us" I wanted to hunt that woman down! I told my daughter there are not too many of us. After that I ask( "Are you supporting me??) All my children went to college and have good jobs

I remember saying to a fellow preschool mom, “How do you handle 4”. Her response was, “The same way you handle 3, one at a time”. That really resonated with me. She was right, I only put on one pair of shoes at a time, make one sandwich at a time, bath one child at a time, etc. Basically, you just do it.

And by the time you get to 4, the 1st is older and helpful. My 2 oldest can buckle the youngest 2. Everyone puts on their own shoes. Everyone can make faces at the baby to keep her happy a minute or two longer. When we hit 3 I really felt the "economy of scale". 1 was hard. 2 was hard. 3 suddenly got easy. 4 is a cake walk.
@Sarah-psalm127

@@JD-hi8qx we are at 8, it's definitely gotten harder again. There were different transitions that were easier and ones that were harder. I found our 4th was pretty hard personally. Then the 6th, but that was probably because of ppd.

My mother in law had 10 children and she says that 3 was the hardest number. Once she had 4, my husband (her oldest) was old enough to be helpful. He is amazing with kids because he always helped her keep his siblings in line hahaha. So from 4 kids onward, she always had older kids to help out with the younger kids. But with 3 littles it was much harder.

When we announced our fourth pregnancy my bitter sister in law sent me financial stats for how much it costs to raise a child…. As if we didn’t know after the first three?! 🤣😂 Honestly, the saddest thing about our fourth child is people seemed much less willing to celebrate with us. No one made special trips to meet our daughter after she was born… they either just didn’t or grouped her in with something else. The biggest thing I had to remember was that it was OUR JOY and no one else mattered! Congrats on joining the mommy of four club, not only will your house be full, but also your heart!

I had eight; it is fantastic! Honestly, four is easier than 3. Three is crazy because the first two are all still in "their" phase and demand attention as if they were only children. The third is always the chill one, but a baby needs all the diapers, nursing, etc. But number 4, wow, what a difference. The first two suddenly become far more self-sufficient, sometimes even helpful. You know that saying "with three you are outnumbered?" It totally goes away with four. That happens because they themselves divide into smaller groups of two and align against each other.😄 Really, they become MORE manageable because they, as children, can never all agree on one thing, leaving you, once again, in charge.

People in general should probably just shut up about others choices re: how many children, whether none --> 20! And along those same lines, for the love of pizza, don't ask adoptees if they don't wanna find their "real" parents. Personal choices around kiddos is just that - PERSONAL. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all! In fact, even if *you* think it's nice, don't comment anyway!

I worked with the geriatric population for 8 years. The one thing that brought almost all of them joy was kids and their grandkids. They didn't talk about their career or how they wished they didn't have kids. So when I was debating career or family I asked myself if I would regret not having kids as an older person. The answer was yes, I would regret not having a family. I'm expecting my 3rd in November 😁I love these kids so much ❤️❤️❤️

What empathic, intelligent people should be asking is this... Can we meet a child's dependency needs right now? If we have one child, can we meet BOTH children's dependency needs? Then if you have 2-3 kids, can we truly meet all these young children's dependency needs. You see, they are called dependency NEEDS for a reason: they are NEEDS that must be met if children are to have a healthy, fully developed and functioning brain. Most people who have even 1 child have NO IDEA what dependency needs are, or how to meet them, or WHY they need to be met. You see, it's not about YOU or what you want. It is can you provide for a child and meet ALL THEIR DEPENDENCY NEEDS. Then you can start thinking about how they will help your narcissistic fantasies in your geriatric years. Sheesh, you should NEVER have kids to meet YOUR NEEDS. smh ...and you think it's okay to post this narcissistic crap? smh
@melindamercier6811
@melindamercier6811 Жыл бұрын
@@le_th_ what an empty, cold, academic, narrow minded, first-world, “doomsayer” way to think about this. Hardly anyone is ever ready for children. We populate the world because we understand the beautiful blessing and honor it is to have children and raise them. It’s not any more narcissistic than ants procreating for the good of the colony, or bears for the sake of having cubs. The fact is, in general, we love our children better than any animal could love their offspring. Is family planning important? Of course, but if that was all that was considered, no one would have children but the richest of the rich. The human race would’ve died off LONG ago with that mindset. As for dependency needs, which are: love, affection, shelter, protection, security, food, and warmth; to claim that “most people” with even one child cannot provide that (assuming you’re referring to the developed world, because third world country citizens can’t be preached to online) proves you don’t even pay attention to society around you and would rather spew your superiority complex over how someone chooses to live their life. Most children here have ALL their dependency needs met. And even out of those that don’t, there are plenty who look fondly on their upbringing, have fulfilling adult lives of their own, and know how to thrive and rise above adversity because of it. Life is more than what a child development textbook tells you. If you’re speaking to the issue of the uncared-for children that come into this world, yes, they matter, and need homes that provide those needs. But we need to step up and DO rather than just talking the talk and virtue signaling for them online. As a foster/adoptive mom, I can speak to that. That’s why as humans its important to be a part of a loving and diverse community of people. And to reach out when we see a need. Even the well-off people who can say “Yes, I can provide for my child’s needs” cannot raise children all alone. A loving community/family matters more at the end of the day. But simply berating and philosophizing on a youtube comment section isn’t what truly empathetic and intelligent people do.

You guys will do just fine! Back in our grandparents' time, it was common to have like 10+ kids. At least 3 of my grandparents came from families with 10 to 15 kids, and they had way fewer conveniences back then. Ignore the naysayers and keep it up! I've got 2 kids but now that they're older, 11 and 9, I wish I'd had more. I think you guys will not regret your decision to have more. Congratulations!!

I always forget that. It's very strange that most American's have fewer than two kids when throughout history family practically meant tribe and clan. All people are related, every person is directly related to a single ancestor by fewer than 4,500 years. Even modern scientists act so amazed that they can trace all blue-eyed people are from one ancestor by just a few thousand years according to their genetics. Why does this amaze them? Every culture around the world has the same written history of being a descendant from family that escaped a worldwide flood fewer than 6,000 years ago. Be it China's three sons, the epic of Gilgamesh, Hindue's Manu, or the Bible of all Jews, Muslims, and Christians we all write that we are one family and modern genetics prove it. We need to remember whole nations grew out of families.

The, "I can give you information on natural family planning", and "do you understand how it works" mentalities are also applied to couples who are having fertility issues and haven't been able to get pregnant. My husband and I have been married almost 10 years and don't have kids yet. The amount of people who say things like that just shocks me. "Um... we've been married nearly 10 years. He's 40. I'm 36. Do you really think we don't know what sex is or how it works???" It's so insulting to assume that a couple isn't getting pregnant because they are too naive to know how it works. If that were the case, no babies would ever be conceived by inexperienced preteens and teens who don't fully know how it works. And yet.... they manage to figure it out well enough to accidentally procreate when they are still children themselves. We definitely know how it works. Why can't people just be happy for other families when they have another child or even when they are married for a while and don't have kids, but have a very warm and loving relationship? As long as the family is healthy and happy, that's all that matters.

My husband and I conceived once and it ended in miscarriage at 19 weeks. 7 years and multiple infertility diagnosis later we still haven't gotten pregnant again. We adopted our son and couldn't be happier. When I was in counseling my therapist asked me to live as if my husband and I were it, us two were our family. No expectations of children, just my husband and I living our best lives and honestly it was the best month of our marriage! Infertility feels like an island sometimes.

My youngest of 7 is 21, oldest 2 are 41 and 42, the others are sprinkled through the other years. I didn't bond very well with my oldest daughter until my 2nd and third daughter's were born when she was in high school. The walls between us broke down as she chose to help care For and love on our new family members. My eldest son also opened up more and became more expressive with his caring and loving emotions. Highly recommended spreading children out over years for a well balanced family.

We also got, "How on earth are you going to afford four children?" And we would reply, " Don't worry, we aren't going to ask for donations." After a while we were just done. Our sone and his wife have five. When we were asked what they were going to do with five, I said, "Well, I guess they will love her like they love the other four. After all, love multiplies." I just had my 6th a week ago, and in public, I met a lot of nosey strangers. "Are they all yours?" "Do they all have the same father?" "Are you done now?" "Oh, let me guess... you're Catholic." (We're not.) "How do you afford so many?" "Why would you want so many kids?" "What do you drive!?!?" "How far apart are they in age?" "Oh my you're hands are full." "I don't know how you do it." Four kids and beyond, people just kind of treat you like a zoo exhibit. If they don't ask questions, they usually stare. Or will talk about you like you can't hear them. That's super awkward. I always appreciate the little elderly people who smile and say we have a beautiful family as they walk by our table at a restaurant, almost nostalgic since they see so few large families these days. From friends and family, the most common reaction for babies 4,5 and 6 was the non-reaction. Like I could have just said "Tonight I made really good chicken for dinner." The reply is usually something like, "Oh, that's nice. Congrats. Anyway, this summer, we are thinking of going on vacation to. ." After 6 kids in 8 years, i think everyone is just kind of desensitized to us being pregnant yet again, so no one really asks any of the questions you get with the first or second like When are you due, how far along are you, how do you feel? It's really funny how different it was from when I announced the first two babies and there was crying and shrieking and all we talked about was babies and pregnancy for 9 months, and now it's just like "here we go again 🙄." The most common question after you have baby 4 and beyond, "So are you done NOW?" Me: NEVER!! 😂😂 Seriously though... 😄

There were hard times, but we always remember and laugh about the the good times and hilarious things that we put our parents through. And we still love being with each other to this day. My siblings gave me 19 (10/9) nieces and nephews, and they gave us 36 (20/16) great-nieces and great-nephews. The best is always yet to come. Congratulations.

Well guess what I am pregnant again, and I love my kids and take care of them." Two awesome women heard this. And came up to me. Looked at that awful woman and said. "Honey, your kids are so well behaved. You are doing great. I can't believe some people are so rude! How dare they tell you how to run your family. You obviously take are of your kids." It was so awesome! That lady scurried away with her tail between her legs. It's funny when I only have two with me and I get the, "wow your hands are full." Miss Heidi, speaking from a former corrections officers perspective …don’t you be afraid to set your boundaries! Tell people that they’re out of line when they say inappropriate things or touch you in a way that is not ok with you- and be firm. You are also showing your children how to respond to these things too! And that could protect them later on in life. I’m one of those folks who has STOUT boundaries. I go as far as to even encourage it with other peoples pets. For example: when I see a dog parent in the park/store and stop to ask to “chat” with the dog, if the dog doesn’t want to come near me, and the parent pushes it, I tell the parent not to because the dog deserves to have its own boundaries as well. If it doesn’t want to come close, then leave it be. It’s important to establish boundaries now, so children will understand that it’s OK to do it too. The same goes for family members who insist on getting a hug or kiss when they see them. If a child doesn’t want one, wise not to force the issue. When they’re ready, they will give a hug. Generally there’s a reason they don’t want to and it’s important for parents to back their play when they are establishing their own boundaries. One just never knows. and the child will come around if, or when, they want to. And if they don’t, then that’s their boundary. We’d be wise to respect it.

Thought I was done after 3 because my husband was sick but I remarried a few years later. After my Husband passed away and here we are with 6. I was in a food line with an elderly woman at a friend's funeral celebration and she asked me how many I had and I was expecting the usual reactions and she shocked me by saying that I needed to have one more because 7 was God's number.

OMG, I have to watch this video again. At first I had to put on the subtitles because some of the very Southern accents were a bit hard to understand and then tears were running down my face from laughter, and I could not read some of the titles, because I was busy wiping my eyes. I am sure you guys knew what you were doing, and I wish you all the best for the growing family. Please keep making these highly entertaining videos. By the way, something rude people commonly ask in Germany in such situations is "Did you want that or was it an accident?". For me it is pretty rude to consider a child an accident. Let me subtly wave the fencepost at you: in Italy I visited a family with five kids. They were so happy, and they said "tell everybody, if four get fed, five get fed as well". 😁😁😁😁 So keep doing what you are doing.

May the fourth be with you 🥳 Congrats y’all! Your family is already so full of love and adventure another little in the mix will multiply the joy. As a young family trying for a big family (not in a religious way, but no judgment on those folks) your content brings us a lot of laughs. Thanks!

We found out we were pregnant with our 4th (not planned at all) when our 3rd was 5 months old. I cried almost the entire pregnancy thinking about having 4 and 2 under a year apart. But we wouldn't change a thing!

Love these videos. We got the book for our first baby and love reading it every week. As expecting first time parents all we get are horror stories!!! People love terrorizing new parents with everything that could go wrong or all the negative experiences they are Sure we are going to see along the way. It got so bad that we actually had to stop talking to certain people because they were speaking so many negative things into our lives.

Yep, congrats!!! I can’t think of any new ones. Those pretty much covered it. I know some of those people and the ones I don’t know I have heard about. You all always come up with some real everyday stuff that’s relatable and absolutely ridiculous! I laugh so hard watching you all! Keep doing what you all do!!!! We love it!

I’m the youngest of 5 kids. It’s amazing!! Just like in your announcement video, I’m so grateful we have each other as support (our dad died this past November). It’s even better now we’re adults. My best friends are my siblings!!
