I remember saying to a fellow preschool mom, “How do you handle 4”. Her response was, “The same way you handle 3, one at a time”. That really resonated with me. She was right, I only put on one pair of shoes at a time, make one sandwich at a time, bath one child at a time, etc. Basically, you just do it.

And by the time you get to 4, the 1st is older and helpful. My 2 oldest can buckle the youngest 2. Everyone puts on their own shoes. Everyone can make faces at the baby to keep her happy a minute or two longer. When we hit 3 I really felt the "economy of scale". 1 was hard. 2 was hard. 3 suddenly got easy. 4 is a cake walk.
@Sarah-psalm1272 жыл бұрын
@@JD-hi8qx we are at 8, it's definitely gotten harder again. There were different transitions that were easier and ones that were harder. I found our 4th was pretty hard personally. Then the 6th, but that was probably because of ppd.

My mother in law had 10 children and she says that 3 was the hardest number. Once she had 4, my husband (her oldest) was old enough to be helpful. He is amazing with kids because he always helped her keep his siblings in line hahaha. So from 4 kids onward, she always had older kids to help out with the younger kids. But with 3 littles it was much harder.

I have been pregnant 6 times in 6 years. My husband got tired of people making not-so-nice jokes so after a while when people would say "Y'all know how that happens right?" he would respond "Yeah! And obviously we thoroughly enjoy it!" Most people got very uncomfortable and kinda just walked off or changed the subject. Some people at church would turn beet red! I didn't really like him saying it, but his thought was "If they are gunna bring it up, then they shouldn't get so uncomfortable when I give them an honest response!"

I had eight; it is fantastic! Honestly, four is easier than 3. Three is crazy because the first two are all still in "their" phase and demand attention as if they were only children. The third is always the chill one, but a baby needs all the diapers, nursing, etc. But number 4, wow, what a difference. The first two suddenly become far more self-sufficient, sometimes even helpful. You know that saying "with three you are outnumbered?" It totally goes away with four. That happens because they themselves divide into smaller groups of two and align against each other.😄 Really, they become MORE manageable because they, as children, can never all agree on one thing, leaving you, once again, in charge.

I always forget that. It's very strange that most American's have fewer than two kids when throughout history family practically meant tribe and clan. All people are related, every person is directly related to a single ancestor by fewer than 4,500 years. Even modern scientists act so amazed that they can trace all blue-eyed people are from one ancestor by just a few thousand years according to their genetics. Why does this amaze them? Every culture around the world has the same written history of being a descendant from family that escaped a worldwide flood fewer than 6,000 years ago. Be it China's three sons, the epic of Gilgamesh, Hindue's Manu, or the Bible of all Jews, Muslims, and Christians we all write that we are one family and modern genetics prove it. We need to remember whole nations grew out of families.

What empathic, intelligent people should be asking is this... Can we meet a child's dependency needs right now? If we have one child, can we meet BOTH children's dependency needs? Then if you have 2-3 kids, can we truly meet all these young children's dependency needs. You see, they are called dependency NEEDS for a reason: they are NEEDS that must be met if children are to have a healthy, fully developed and functioning brain. Most people who have even 1 child have NO IDEA what dependency needs are, or how to meet them, or WHY they need to be met. You see, it's not about YOU or what you want. It is can you provide for a child and meet ALL THEIR DEPENDENCY NEEDS. Then you can start thinking about how they will help your narcissistic fantasies in your geriatric years. Sheesh, you should NEVER have kids to meet YOUR NEEDS. smh ...and you think it's okay to post this narcissistic crap? smh

@@le_th_ what an empty, cold, academic, narrow minded, first-world, “doomsayer” way to think about this. Hardly anyone is ever ready for children. We populate the world because we understand the beautiful blessing and honor it is to have children and raise them. It’s not any more narcissistic than ants procreating for the good of the colony, or bears for the sake of having cubs. The fact is, in general, we love our children better than any animal could love their offspring. Is family planning important? Of course, but if that was all that was considered, no one would have children but the richest of the rich. The human race would’ve died off LONG ago with that mindset. As for dependency needs, which are: love, affection, shelter, protection, security, food, and warmth; to claim that “most people” with even one child cannot provide that (assuming you’re referring to the developed world, because third world country citizens can’t be preached to online) proves you don’t even pay attention to society around you and would rather spew your superiority complex over how someone chooses to live their life. Most children here have ALL their dependency needs met. And even out of those that don’t, there are plenty who look fondly on their upbringing, have fulfilling adult lives of their own, and know how to thrive and rise above adversity because of it. Life is more than what a child development textbook tells you. If you’re speaking to the issue of the uncared-for children that come into this world, yes, they matter, and need homes that provide those needs. But we need to step up and DO rather than just talking the talk and virtue signaling for them online. As a foster/adoptive mom, I can speak to that. That’s why as humans its important to be a part of a loving and diverse community of people. And to reach out when we see a need. Even the well-off people who can say “Yes, I can provide for my child’s needs” cannot raise children all alone. A loving community/family matters more at the end of the day. But simply berating and philosophizing on a youtube comment section isn’t what truly empathetic and intelligent people do.

Well, I know which character in the video YOU are.....Jeeze. What emotionally mature and responsible people ACTUALLY do is rise to whatever challenge is given to them. We've been trained in the modern era to expect every decision to be rigidly planned and executed (and then the products of unplanned actions disposed of, sadly). Most people throughout history have had kids unplanned. It wasn't really a question of "are we ready, and can we meet their dependency needs (a term NO ONE uses outside of the internet). They just....had kids...then raised them. You think your response was so wise, but actually it just made you look like the narcissistic idiot.

We have 8 children ranging from age 14 - 3. So, yeah. We have experienced all of these types of people too. Many times. In fact, one we heard a lot was, "You know how that happens, right?!" Thankfully, not everyone is a turd. Children are a blessing. If God gives them to you He will work out all the details to provide for them and keep them safe. You are blessed.... no matter what anyone else tells you.

Good for you!!! :) I pray they all end up nice kids! My family has 8 children ages 16-30 and so far, so good. We are all taking a family vacation together next month and everyone is happy to go stay in the same house together for 2 weeks. We even have a future-fiancé traveling over from Germany to join us for part of the time. We love our big family!

Love this! We definitely noticed a change in the reactions after 3. I remember very pregnant shopping with my toddler boy, and was chatting with a young cashier. Told her we were having a girl. She said, “Oh, that’s so cute, everyone wants a boy and a girl”. My reply, “yeah, we did that, a boy and a girl, then two boys and now another girl”. Deer in the headlights, I think is the best way to describe her reaction. 😂 Mom of 6, (another boy after that story) Just doing my part to help with the looming underpopulation crisis. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

The, "I can give you information on natural family planning", and "do you understand how it works" mentalities are also applied to couples who are having fertility issues and haven't been able to get pregnant. My husband and I have been married almost 10 years and don't have kids yet. The amount of people who say things like that just shocks me. "Um... we've been married nearly 10 years. He's 40. I'm 36. Do you really think we don't know what sex is or how it works???" It's so insulting to assume that a couple isn't getting pregnant because they are too naive to know how it works. If that were the case, no babies would ever be conceived by inexperienced preteens and teens who don't fully know how it works. And yet.... they manage to figure it out well enough to accidentally procreate when they are still children themselves. We definitely know how it works. Why can't people just be happy for other families when they have another child or even when they are married for a while and don't have kids, but have a very warm and loving relationship? As long as the family is healthy and happy, that's all that matters.

My husband and I conceived once and it ended in miscarriage at 19 weeks. 7 years and multiple infertility diagnosis later we still haven't gotten pregnant again. We adopted our son and couldn't be happier. When I was in counseling my therapist asked me to live as if my husband and I were it, us two were our family. No expectations of children, just my husband and I living our best lives and honestly it was the best month of our marriage! Infertility feels like an island sometimes.

Congrats! I’m the second of seven and I cannot count how many times people have felt like giving their opinion on that. Every time I hear “overpopulation “ as a reason not to have kids, it makes me want to go out and have a dozen. I ended up with one that I’m in the process of adopting (so far!), one sibling has 4 kids, 2 others have 2 kids and the rest have none. I used to look at 4 kids as a very small family, lol. It’s a challenge, but kids are definitely a Blessing from God.

I am TTC #5. I have had over a dozen miscarriages in the last 16 yrs, including twins. I was told I could never have kids, so I am overjoyed whenever a baby sticks. People don't like it. I don't care. I LOVE my kids. And this was SO ACCURATE! Also, I am now campaigning for my husband to get doula certified. Lol! 5 will be our last, as I am at a very high risk for several reproductive cancers. I'm getting a hysterectomy following the birth.

Miss Heidi, speaking from a former corrections officers perspective …don’t you be afraid to set your boundaries! Tell people that they’re out of line when they say inappropriate things or touch you in a way that is not ok with you- and be firm. You are also showing your children how to respond to these things too! And that could protect them later on in life. I’m one of those folks who has STOUT boundaries. I go as far as to even encourage it with other peoples pets. For example: when I see a dog parent in the park/store and stop to ask to “chat” with the dog, if the dog doesn’t want to come near me, and the parent pushes it, I tell the parent not to because the dog deserves to have its own boundaries as well. If it doesn’t want to come close, then leave it be. It’s important to establish boundaries now, so children will understand that it’s OK to do it too. The same goes for family members who insist on getting a hug or kiss when they see them. If a child doesn’t want one, wise not to force the issue. When they’re ready, they will give a hug. Generally there’s a reason they don’t want to and it’s important for parents to back their play when they are establishing their own boundaries. One just never knows. and the child will come around if, or when, they want to. And if they don’t, then that’s their boundary. We’d be wise to respect it.

I always wanted a house full of children.....we're talking like 10, mostly boys! lol Sadly, I could only birth one, but I became THAT neighborhood mom where ALL the kids hung out, spent the night, etc. Now I'm a granny & working on helping to raise the next generation. I believe with every fiber of my being that GOD's 2 greatest gifts to us is 1)His Son, Jesus, Who died for my sins & rose again, & 2)Children. Their laughter, their trust, their faith, seeing the world through their eyes..... yep, now I'm crying. Y'all enjoy every moment & keep those babies coming. 😀

We had four kids in 5.5 years and it has been the hardest, yet most fulfilling thing I have ever done in my life. It is always loud and the chaos is legit. However my kids always have somebody to play with. When they ask to have a play date with one of their friends and I’m exhausted and can’t imagine doing one more thing, I tell them,“ I gave birth to all of your play dates, go find one of them“. Blessings to your family.

OMG, I have to watch this video again. At first I had to put on the subtitles because some of the very Southern accents were a bit hard to understand and then tears were running down my face from laughter, and I could not read some of the titles, because I was busy wiping my eyes. I am sure you guys knew what you were doing, and I wish you all the best for the growing family. Please keep making these highly entertaining videos. By the way, something rude people commonly ask in Germany in such situations is "Did you want that or was it an accident?". For me it is pretty rude to consider a child an accident. Let me subtly wave the fencepost at you: in Italy I visited a family with five kids. They were so happy, and they said "tell everybody, if four get fed, five get fed as well". 😁😁😁😁 So keep doing what you are doing.

I left a long comment that I/we got about our fourth and a wonderful response from an octogenarian. It is something I will always remember and cherish! We also got, "How on earth are you going to afford four children?" And we would reply, " Don't worry, we aren't going to ask for donations." After a while we were just done. Our sone and his wife have five. When we were asked what they were going to do with five, I said, "Well, I guess they will love her like they love the other four. After all, love multiplies." They shut up.

Lol!! Love her reactions! I get the, "you do know how that happens right?" A lot! And "you have your hands full." "Another one! Your just a machine. Popping babies out!" One lady came up to me in costco. We were waiting for samples. Because why not. "These 4 kids yours? Honey you need to stop." "Excuse me?" You really need to stop. You have too many" "oh really. Well guess what I am pregnant again, and I love my kids and take care of them." Two awesome women heard this. And came up to me. Looked at that awful woman and said. "Honey, your kids are so well behaved. You are doing great. I can't believe some people are so rude! How dare they tell you how to run your family. You obviously take are of your kids." It was so awesome! That lady scurried away with her tail between her legs. It's funny when I only have two with me and I get the, "wow your hands are full." Their shocked faces when I tell them how many I have, makes it worth going to the store. I have 6 now. No one makes remarks when I am out with all of them. They probably think I'm crazy and they don't want to tick me off. Lol!

I have 5 and got those comments all the time, too! When I was first pregnant with #5 and filling a prescription for Progesterone, the pharmacy employee said "don't you know what causes that by now?" I thought that was so inappropriate coming from someone handling medicine. I once had someone ask if they all had the same father! That was a strange one. They do, but why is that anyone's business? I also think it's funny when I would be out with just some of them and people would say I had my hands full. This is nothing! Most of them are at home! LOL Now my kids are big. Three of them are adults and the youngest is 14. I miss when they were little, though...
