Karo has slick judo throws. Made it look effortless. Judo is so underrated in MMA

Every time we see judo in mma people just call it wrestling. Fedor and Khabib both used a lot of Judo. Of course Khabib used pure wrestling too, but a lot of his techniques were more at home in a Judo match than a wrestling match.

Its so tough to be a great mma judoka because you are always in range of heavy punches. Only the very best can make it in fighting and Karo was one of those though he could've been even better
@ethanbernard76713 жыл бұрын
@@Nile15rush_fj That's why I started cross training boxing along with my judo & wrestling. As a grappler predominantly I've worked on 3 ways to close the distance which gives my sparring partners some trouble. 1) I look to be defensive. Sit back, catch some of the punches and look for my opportunity to slip and clinch to set up throws/sweeps 2) Level change into a standing clinch/body lock 3) Level change into a takedown finish (I usually go for a low single and finish with a double knee attack/high crotch to a double leg)
@jeegupopli18713 жыл бұрын
@@Nile15rush_fj nah judo is an inefficient grappling sport for mma, otherwise look at UFC most champions are wrestlers exept for 2 divisions and UFC itself was created because of bjj(which is a plagerized version of judos ground game) triuphing over all other strict styled martial arts.

Judo will almost always beat BJJ if they have the same level of strength and conditions. Judo simply has more moves and is a more complete system. Many Russian MMA fighters have Judo, not BJJ background and they are all very strong. The UFC simply doesn't want to have too many Russian fighters. That's why we don't see many of them fighting in the UFC.

True, it almost wasn't fair with GSP back then though. The level of natural athlete GSP is is on the level of NBA or Olympians, but he began his MMA career in an era of tough guys who didn't have many other good career options who had been both amateur boxers and high school and college wrestlers. The archetype of solid contenders in the UFC back then was a strong wrestler with good boxing, you could get away without even knowing how to kick lol.
