"Heilung means healing, and it's the final message of this show. When you look through the set and the translations behind the lyrics, it's about a peaceful society being driven to war because their enemy only speaks the language of the sword. But during the conflict, their shaman/soothsayer guy reads the bones and discovers the only rune that has significance in the future is 'Ear' ... the 'Grave' or 'Death Incarnate'. Then, the final song's lyrics are taken from the Merseberg Incantations where Wodan heals a horse's broken leg with a chant of healing. So the entire show is about healing the world of man from the scars of war, lest we be overtaken by the grave." This was copy and pasted from "airlockengage" a few comments down.

I worked at a used bookstore, and one of our regulars is a guy about 65 or so who is a music fanatic. Any style, any era, he will listen to it. He has stories of meeting every band you've ever heard of from the 60s and 70s when they passed though Cleveland. His recommendations are gold. My wife and I love trying new music, and he came in one day and handed her a piece of paper with "Heilung: LIFA" on it. She said she would listen to it later on lunch break. He quickly held up his hand. "No." You have to watch the video of the whole live performance. Trust me." Of course, we did. When she went home she brought up the video of the performance, figuring she could try it for a few minutes as the performance began, then she would have dinner. She said she suddenly noticed that the performance was ending, it had been an hour, and she had not thought of food or anything else. The music had CONSUMED her.

Women had from the beginning been elevated in Christianity far above what the pagans managed, particularly in Greek and Roman society. Throughout the Middle Ages, women were revered as saints, doctors, and spiritual women, not to mention the deep devotion to Mary that characterized the period. It was only during the Enlightenment when philosophers elevated the ancient Greek tradition over the Christian tradition that women were placed in subservient roles practically and philosophically. As others have said here, woman was created from the side of man, co-equals with him in his place in the Cosmic Order and co-heirs of the Image of God and eternity.

I was moved to tears by the sheer power behind this performance. I am not of Scandanavian blood and do not understand any of the languages used and am not usually partial to this kind of music, but somehow it transcends languages and speaks directly to that part of me that feels connected to the Earth and all her natural beauty. We have lost something along the way and Heilung seem to be tapping into that primal yearning for simpler times. Powerful stuff.

It's a fantastic musical tribute and connection to the history and people of northern europe, but it's also a very practiced and meticulous performance that allows everyone involved to make a living. The trappings of paganism are a part of that performance but it's not based on any one religion or ritual in particular. It is spiritual in my opinion, but only in the sense that all music that provokes emotion is spiritual, which'll come down to how you as the individual percieve it.

disregard comments that this is a hippie Band - I grew up in the Sixties. 1) there was NEVER any band like this in the 60's . 2) The hippies were a phenomena of the era of sexual revolution, protest of Vietnam & other wars yes but, this band Heilung reaches FAR BACK into a neolithic type of energy that was left undiscovered by the 'Hippie' Movement. 3) we have never before been in this particular moment, where we have the potential to Literally turn earth into a barren rock, this & other things are what the music of Heilung touches on.

This entire performance is an amazing accomplishment. The pieces are all visceral and pounding, the chanting is mesmerizing, the drumming is over-powering. Maria Franz in particular has an amazing voice for this type of work. Her laser-like control of every vocalization, for what is clearly a physically and psychically demanding performance, serves to emphasize and reinforce the amazing spiritual and ethereal nature of the entire set. The final piece is a solid sound wall of driving percussion and a healing vocal benediction of life itself. The performers, artists, and technical crew of Heilung, including the walk-on warriors, have created something truly amazing and timeless. A visual and auditory feast that projects directly into the soul of the audience. I feel cleansed and energized every time I listen to this live presentation from Heilung. Stunning. Diese Musik geht so tief in die Seele. Das ist einfach unglaublich. Ich liebe die Sänger, sie berühren etwas in einem von dem man dachte, man hätte es verloren. Danke Heilung und bitte macht weiter so.
@MarcelWittke10 ай бұрын
? Was hat man denn verloren? Man lässt sich doch einfach auf die Musik ein. Sie hat was meditatives und sprituelles. Aber verloren hat man doch nichts, was man darin wiederfindet. Das driftet doch etwas zu sehr in die Esoterik ab....

It's rare to find such precious performances. Heilung builds a world of sound and harmonies like nothing I've heard before; listening to the beautiful harmonies @ 43:00 with Maria Franz (intensively continued @ 49:30) reminds me of how fragile life is and I'm in tears over lost family members. It's touched something inside me I thought was long forgotten. Thanks.

I'm seeing Heilung tomorrow night and I've been stoked for this experience since I first watched this performance half a decade ago...I'm taking my father, who is in his mid-50s. I told him to buy tickets and not look up or listen to Heilung beforehand, so he is going in tomorrow night fresh and not expecting the ritual to come. I can't wait

This is a powerful experience only sitting in my living room, must be mindblowing to see the show live. When I first saw Maria in her costume, my impression was: This is not a human being, this is more like a forest spirit or something. What an intriguing expression of femininity.
@taraswertelecki98863 жыл бұрын
My sentiments exactly. I am a Slav however, and in Slavic lore many spirits are malicious, if not deadly enemies of man. Some are the vengeful, sad or lonely spirits of people who died prematurely or tragically. However, the lady herself is very intriguing.

Jokes aside, heilung is a wonderful music group. Cheers me up to hear the audience participating like that, it feels more genuine and unique to hear someone imitate a wolf's howl than clapping
@petermajerciak22704 жыл бұрын
Do you? Me, on the other had, find those "AIAIAIAIAIAIAAAAAAA" sounds pretty annoying... Dunno why. Sounds inappropriate for the show to me.
@Robb19774 жыл бұрын
@@petermajerciak2270 i disagree. Their live shows are far less ambient, and way higher energy than their recorded albums. This usually implies they want some audience activity. Rather than do something that completely clashes with the musical style like clapping, or screaming "yeah!" Like would happen at many concerts, heilungs fans do stuff that fits within the music itself.

I've listened to this album (recorded version) several times but this live version waaay more, because the instruments sound so much better - as they should live - and I like the interactions from the crowd. As others have said, what they do fits with the music. I imagine they are so elated, high, excited to be partaking in the experience that is Heilung performing live, they can't help but omit those noises! Think I'd be the same!

Firstly I am healing, secondly, what is the audience doing; when I listen to Heilung I am dancing all around my yard. I can’t commit to a “seat” when they come to USA Maryland. I feel so much love for you all. Thank you ❤❤❤❤

Crazy, life is overwhelming me. It's hard for an old soul to live in these modern times. When I feel like all hope is lost and feel like going insane I take a deep breath and play these beautiful, haunting, reverberating melodies. It makes me forget about everything. All my troubles, worries, and frustrations disappear when I feel the vibrations and frequencies from these amazing ballads. Connects me to my inner self, connects me to the universe, connects me to everything because I am everything. Music is my medicine and don't know where I would be without it. Thank you so very much. - a random entity
