Thank you so much for this video! It was so easy to follow. I have a quick question I’m hoping you can help me with. I’m trying to match my glitter to some specific colours from an image. I can sample the colours as I normally would, but when I add it as a soft light overlay like in your tutorial, it never quite matches. I believe this is because of the black portions of the glitter, but I am not sure what steps to take to match the colours exactly. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!!!

very useful tutorial. I will use this glitter soon. Never thought one of the patterns in Photoshop could play a major role in doing this. You're so creative, Helen. Just did your spiral pattern in Illustrator yesterday. Worked out fine. Had to save it as a PSD file and unclick anti-alias to get rid of those darn gaps. I think it worked. (unchecking anti-alias in Illustrator general preferences didn't work). Made some improvements to boutique logo and another improvement to the project you saw not long ago. Looks nice.

Morgan Field I think you will have fun with it Morgan. I really spent ages watching other people's videos to get ideas as to how to make glitter but I never found anything that worked the way I thought it should look - I wanted some bigger circular pieces that actually looked like metal flakes and making glitter from 'noise' doesn't cut it. As soon as I saw this texture, I knew I had found the missing piece. I think you'll have fun with it. The spiral pattern is awesome fun. Tricky to make but it sounds like you nailed it. Well done.
@smurfette15099 жыл бұрын
I did well with the spiral pattern but it did take me some time. It was fun because I knew I was on the right track the whole time. I know what you mean with noise not working with the glitter.

@HelenBradley8 жыл бұрын
+Willowfields Hi there. Good question. Ombre is just a gradient of color. So, instead of filling the top layer with a solid color - fill it with a gradient of the colors to use - then your glitter will be that color.

I notice that yours is a solid white. Do you know what I am doing wrong? It is not changing the pattern.Thanks for your help.
@HelenBradley8 жыл бұрын
+dstaskegonzales Open the brushes palette and make sure you are using a brush that shows in that palette as being white - chances are your brush is just the outline of a circle and not a filled circle. Let me know if changing brushes doesn't solve the problem.

@HelenBradley6 жыл бұрын
You can't save patterns as 'swatch colors' in Photoshop (you can in Illustrator, but this isn't a feature in Photoshop). HOWEVER, if you follow the instructions starting at 7:55 I show you how to make the glitter into a pattern swatch that you can use in Photoshop - I even show you how to use it! From 8:12 minutes, what command do you get to layer 4? Thanks for helping me. thanks
@HelenBradley5 жыл бұрын
Control + Alt + Shift + E (on the Mac Command + Option + Shift + E) it is a stamp layer. What it does is to take all the content from the layers below, and flattens it to a new layer - it means you keep the original layers and get one composite one. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have more questions.

Good point Shando briese. You don't have to use Multiply - so perhaps try another blend mode to see if you like that better. Also, you can adjust the Opacity of the top (Multiply) layer so you dilute the effect a bit. Give these a try and see how you go.

Please help! i'm trying to "Alt-Click" to destroy the repeating pattern, but no matter what I do the pattern stays uniform and still repeats itself! What am i doing wrong?! :(
@HelenBradley5 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I'm so sorry that this is happening for you. What you need to do is to alt + click on an area of the image that you want to use to paint with and then let go of the Alt key and start painting over where the obvious seam is. It appears that you're not quite using the clone stamp tool correctly and that's the problem. The way the tool works is that you sample an area to use and then you paint over the problem which in this case is the obvious seam where the pattern is repeating. You may need to repeatedly sample new areas to use to paint over the seam to get rid of it. Please let me know if you still need help. I realize this is tricky when you're new to using these tools.

Can you do this with Photoshop Elements
@HelenBradley5 жыл бұрын
Michele, if you can find that initial pattern in Photoshop Elements then I can see little reason why you can't achieve this same result in Photoshop Elements. The tricky bit is to find that initial pattern which works so well as a starting point for the design. You might also have to find some workarounds for some of these techniques but I am guessing it should be possible.

Ok. So you need to make sure you have selected the layer that has all the content on it. So check this in the Layers palette. Then select the Clone Stamp tool. Then Alt + Click on an area in the image that has content you want to use to 'paint with'. Then let go all the keys! and just paint with the Clone stamp tool. You will be 'painting' over the area to cover up and your 'paint' is the sample you just took. Give it a go and get back to me with questions.

I watch your video about making fill patterns, then it took me forever to get a perfect fill pattern that I custom made. Because in the new PS you can choose everything about the way the pattern looks to brightness and color. Anyways I made my wifes name in a diamond text, you can see the photo at my twitter twitter.com/ProDminerFTB Could you please take a look it would mean the world to me :). Also I been using photo shop now for about 9 days or so is this good progression? I am thinking about switching my college majors what do you think towards me doing that? Maybe switching to visual communications? Anyways thanks for everything and your amazing tutorials. I do tuts as well, and am gonna put a video on how I made this so everyone will know. But thats gonna take a few days so I can make sure I have every little detail. Thanks have a good one :)

+ProD Miner Awesome job! You did great - I like the texture you created. I've been playing around with some diamond ideas to see what can be done so I'll probably take the idea forward myself - keep an eye out on my channel. As for your major, I think you have a good quest for knowledge and you obviously enjoy researching things and trying out new things. If you study and do what you like to do - I think that's a good recipe for happiness and success in life. That said, even if you don't change majors, you can still develop your Photoshop skills - I studied Law - so majors don't always determine the direction your life heads in!
