Very helpful. Thank you for posting. When I first tried that same dolly 3 times, it collapsed 3 times. And no instructions came with it. I felt like taking a sledge hammer to smash it, and to then go beat up the maker in China. But I scanned through 10 YT vids to pick up as many tips as possible for max efficiency. Here's what I found and added myself: 1. Put the dolly on the ground beside the middle of the yak, but at an angle so that when we swing the yak onto it the yak and dolly will be aligned with each other already. The stand should face towards the front of the yak, assuming you are going to pull it from the front like most seem to do. Having the dolly around the middle of the boat makes it more balanced and lighter to pull. 2. Go to both the back and front of the yak and tilt it up to look along under it from each end to see that the yak is centred. If not, wiggle/jiggle it into center position. 4. Put the unbuckled end of the supplied strap under and over a bar on the dolly that goes directly to the wheel (wheel bar) and pull it over the top of the boat to the other side and put it over and under the bar that goes to that wheel also. Pull that unbuckled end up towards the buckle and get it as tight as you can by both pulling the strap end and pushing the buckle. I also run each of 2 bungee cords from the wheel bar on each side and up over the boat to a d-ring on the other side of the boat. But just the strap or the bungee cords did work by themselves. 5. Push the stand back onto the frame of the dolly from whichever side of the boat is tilted up so that the stand cannot catch something on the ground and trip the dolly to collapse. Careful not to collapse it on an arm while pushing it back. Good to go. Oh, and practice at home in your yard two or three times so you aren't the Charlie Chaplin-like mug on the beach getting videod by someone for international YT entertainment as you struggle with it for an hour. I hope this helps. If any of you have any other tips to better or perfect this, I'm all ears and we all help each other here. Happy yaking!

It seems so simple, but it just wasn't simple for me. Thank you for making this video. My kayak is the hard plastic, sit on type, about 50 pounds & a "bear" to play with. My first excursion with the dolly it kept falling off, but I think I understand a bit better now. Also, I had the stand "part" the wrong way!! I also live at the top of a VERY steep hill and the river is just across the street. Going.... wasn't a problem but after a full day of kayaking, my arms were exhausted and dragging this kayak up a very steep hill (even on wheels) almost rolled me back down!! I purchased those harness straps used to move large furniture..... & wear them "backwards" and pull my kayak up the hill with the body harness instead of my tired arms & hand. I feel like a sled dog (kayak girl), but it is perfect. You helped make this all make sense now. Thank you.....

Thanks Gary. I'm about to buy a similar dolly. I thought you put the dolly under one end, but your approach to position it close to centre of gravity of the kayak makes far more sense and makes it easier to wheel. Also, thank you for explaining how you store the dolly. Very generous of you to share your experience and expertise, thank you.

Thank you! I’ve been struggling crazy with mine (even today with the cold weather coming to the CHICAGO area), and your video shows me that I not only need to position it closer to the center of my fishing kayak but also need to use a better strap than my loose bungee cords to hold it firmly into place as I have fairly rough terrain and a good distance to travel from my truck to my launch spot at the local lake. Can’t wait to try it again with your suggestions but will likely have to wait till next Spring! Great video!

Gary, thanks for video with the dolly. My Tamarack Angler 100 (blue of course to be seen by the motorhead crazies) is being delivered today! I have a perfect space in my mobile home living room by the door. Easy storage up on a bookshelf converted rack where I can just slide it down and out onto my porch. I already have an ONYX PFD, red and green nav lights from an old Super Snark, a soft car-top strap down kit, and a Bending Branches decent paddle coming in the mail. I'll get the buzz back when I get the registration numbers and tag. A wonderful lake is only 50 minutes away actually now in our land-grabbing Peoria city limits. Ravens, burros, coyotes, and a protected canyon site up stream for Bald and Golden Eagles. Hmmm...also interesting is that every tributary into the lake is gold bearing. Kinda helps that I'm a "lifer" LDMA member with desert crevicing gear. I just watched a way cool video from a "Fuzzy" in Texas. His "Ultimate Kayak Krate" DIY Kayak Crate Build" is easy and cheap. Interestingly, he uses a green dairy crate like yours. Catch him at I think you'll like it. Buy a 2nd rack, cut the bottom off to use as a top that fits nicely. The hinges are zip ties! Add the rod tubes externally around the crate and "ShaZAAM!" I plan on also using the DIY anchor trolley without putting holes in the hull. Looks pretty good to me. Well, adios from Cactusland Flip

@GarysOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, sand and rough terrain can make it difficult. That's when you need to run the strap over both parts of the wheel frame. 👍
@jadahoob993 жыл бұрын
Gary is right about both parts of the frame. Rough terrain and big bumps always caused my wheels to twist under the boat. I use TWO straps now and snug the straps tightly. I cut them in half and tied them on the FOUR top corners. Now, I just have to grab a buckle side and a strap side and attach them together... then repeat with the other one. It saves time by not having to thread the straps under and/or tie the straps each time I use them. It's a little messier when the wheels are not in use, but I just wrap the excess lengthwise around the frame and hang them on the wall. This way I don't have to keep up with the straps either. I can't lose them in the boat or in the car because they are already tied onto the wheel frame! To snug tighter, try using BOTH hands... by PUSHING the lower part of the strap TOWARD the buckle with one hand while simultaneously PULLING the loose end of the strap through the buckle with the other hand (moving both hands toward each other).

I felt so dumb, when i seen this gent load his kayak, my wife and I both thought I bought the wrong kind.lol. Or life style on the water I've added only necessary, add on's, I want to keep it simple. I'm making my own seat with foam,from the fabric store. And sewing a camo pattern around PVC back, afterwards, putting a pouch on the back of the seat. I'm going to glue the bottom part @ the back resting on PVC I plan to screw it in .I've made my own carrying handles from pvc,and paracord Screwing it to the kayak with washers @ silicone to hold them down. My next project is to make my own Out riggers Pvc, down and connect to 3inch pvc capped, @ painted. 😊 After that project, I'm going to install a live well. That pulls in it's own water, 🤪 God bless to all my fellow kayakers 😊 See you on the water ✌ Please give me tips. I would appreciate it , 10ft, castaway 100.
