Hell hounds-when fiend does a job a simple guard animal can't! (D&D Compendium of Monsters)

Hell hounds are fiends from D&D 5e that are incredibly versatile for combat encounters. They can appear in the Underdark, on the surface of the Material Plane, on any of the Lower Planes...your imagination is really the limit.
A fun way to use hell hounds against higher level parties is to have a pack of hell hounds fight your players' characters in an enclosed space. Sure, your players' characters can deal and avoid more damage, but the potential for overlapping Fire Breaths means any character without fire resistance (or immunity) is in for a rough time.

Hell hounds are all over the lower planes hades, the abyss and the nine Hells gehanna carceri pandemonium Acheron you could find these fiendish hounds anywhere in the lower planes.

Now Im curious to know what happens if you take hellhound under the water and kill it.

They probably still burn. There are types of fire (like grease/oil) that can't be extinguished by water
