Skulks-when you're so lost in the Shadowfell that you lose yourself (D&D Compendium of Monsters)

Skulks are fascinating creatures because they’re a CL ½ but hit like a truck. An average of 13 damage each round is enough to defeat most first level player characters and badly damage many at second or even third level. Sure, the skulk only has 18 hit points, but you have to HIT it in order to kill it. I suppose we can be grateful that it doesn’t have the suggested health for a CL ½ creature, which is ~50-70 HP.

This creature sounds like it can cause some damage to even slightly higher level parties if done correctly and some damage tweaks done right. It’s just powerful enough mechanic wise to not make it be murdered to ground beef.

I don't know why, but I've always imagined a skulk who's a child's imaginary friend and is just... chilling. Like yeah, it's a highly dangerous creature that could very easily kill the child and their parents, but for some reason it's totally content to just to play with dolls or participate in tea parties.

The urchin, a small waif of a boy with sunken cheeks ambles up to the party. Little feet shuffling under his grimy cloths, and offers the party a small candle made of rendered fat. He emplores the party's cleric to take the candle.
