I was very pleasantly surprised by Carmichael Manor. Some of the scenes are even scarier than the first film, like the slideshow scene and the hallway scenes, it was the first time in a long time I actually got the chills from a horror movie.

Right? Carmichael Manor isn't as shaggy and improvisational, but it has such strong performances and an isolated setting, it carries it to greater heights in some ways. Also, I felt like we get world-building that wasn't as amateurish as the other two sequels. Good stuff.

@@spookyastronauts I have to go rewatch now and keep checking the background for that effing clown (to paraphrase the great Richie Tozier). Makes me think of when i learned Michael Myers was driving in the background through the whole day in Halloween. I went back and rewatched and it was like…..omg he is ALWAYS THERE. The cool thing is that i got the same feeling without knowing he was doing that the first go. It was just so much more intense than i realized. Seriously he is ALWAYS there. My running theory is that hes on screen or just out if frame when theres music. Carpenter is amazing at that. I saw The Thing in the theater last year (i think?) and the only thing that surprised me more than how much the Thing and/or the fear thereof (shadows, etc) was on the screen was how i felt *physically cold* the whole time. And the Shape himself is even in the thing, as a shadow! Full circle. Not saying hell house is on the same level (though it certainly owes a lot to carpenter).. just saying…it was impressive when you made a video shorter than this comment that explained a whole bunch of movies, and all i did was fill time before a meeting and say “Halloween and The Thing were kinda a bit good in my opinion “ 😂

i think you missed the point with Russell. He brought everyone in because he knew it would draw Tulley out. He had to fight Tulley not his lankys. Tulley has to be drawn out, if you watch it again, you can see he's basically copying Alex. Alex drew Tulley out so Russell did what he had to do. He also was my favorite character. Love him

The first one was pretty decent but probably lost some of it’s charm form me since it came after the gigantic found footage boom when every other movie went down that road for a couple of years. Part 2&3 were forgettable, but this latest one was a super fun surprise if you ask me. Enjoyed it waaay more than I anticipated. Best of the series if you ask me and if you are super reluctant to see them all it might be worth a standalone watch even though some of the tie-ins to the rest of the lore will be lost.

A lot of people don’t like the third one and I didn’t really either until I understood the story (who/what Russel actually was) I love the idea of God turning a common man into an angel to take down a great evil. Once I realized the plot, I rewatched certain parts of the movie and I really love when an ending twist is so good you have to rewatch it to discover the little hints they sprinkle in throughout the film. I loved the part when they all ate dinner together and it was only bread & wine (a nice reference to the last supper I believe) I was really convinced Russell was just another evil guy and was just going to bring more people to the hotel to die due to how sketchy he acted throughout the film. A scene that wasn’t mentioned was after the showdown at the end of the third film, all of the souls of those that died that night are freed while Wynn & the original hell house crew are trapped in a purgatory since they died way earlier. Maybe it was too late for Russell to save their souls? Not the happiest of endings but I think it works for the trilogy and I was satisfied with it. That being said, I would rank 3 over 2 in terms of story since the second film is so similar to the first. I will admit that the second is definitely more scary than the third film however.

@SrPerritoCaliente
@SrPerritoCaliente 10 ай бұрын
One of the things that I didn't get was that during intervew with the priest in the third movie you can ear the piano in the background, and it's hinted during the series that the whole town is somehow complicit to the sacrifices. Plus they often say that only out-of-towners can be interested in going at the Abaddon Hotel. I think that Russel Wynn made the show because in order to close the gate for good it needs to be opened through sacrifice. He tricked Andrew Tully (Tully screamed "who are you?" at the end of the third film) into doing that. Eh, just spitballing here.

Was something going on between Patrick and his sister Margaret? The way Margaret told Catherine you can't come with us because mom said so felt weird? Why did she say Catherine couldn't come? Also, why would Patrick agree to a deal to bring back Margaret in exchange for him killing all his other relatives? If I'm in grief over losing a sibling killing more relatives isn't going to make me feel better, even if a deal is on the table to resurrect a sibling I lost.

I think they were just close and he was overcome by grief as they were best friends. I think she couldn’t go because she was the youngest. 2:58 not quite. that would be a huge continuity error given that the ones from "down a clown" are seen in Hell House Origins, which takes place long after the events of the first Hell House. And that picture was taken before the events of the first one. Those are four entirely different clowns.

Recently got into this franchise. First was quite good, next two were very much not, but Carmichael Manor was a pleasant surprise! I really enjoyed it...apart from yelling at the screen repeatedly every time a character failed to lock a door (so many times, and though it probably wouldn't have helped anyway given the supernatural element, it was just the principle of the thing), or didn't run for their lives immediately before it was too late, or call for help in time, etc. But that's just horrors, really. I still had a very good time with one and four, and got some good scares. Looking forward to future installments.

What I think this series has brilliantly done all the way through is present a mystery, then for every question it answers it raises several more. It's not over-explaining, although it has toed that line, especially in 2 and 3, but sort of expanding lore without ever feeling conclusive. At least for me, this means I'm going to keep coming back, even if none of the sequels ever touch the darn-near perfection of the first. I need to watch the 3rd one again. I don't think I paid attention at all; I don't remember any of that about the angel. I re-watched the 1st one last night and as a testament to genuinely good horror, it's still creepy and suspenseful on multiple viewings. I was skeptical with a 4th installment but pleasantly surprised. Some really good scares in there although the justifications for staying are wearing thin.

Carmichael Manor is the greatest one in the sense that it provides almost all of the lore for the 60s-80s events, and I've really enjoyed the retcon regarding the clowns being in the hotel even before Hell House (they had such a big role in the films, it would have been a mistake not to do it) but I'm quite sad that its present day events can't even theoretically fit into the timeline - if the Abaddon Hotel had the clowns all along and burnt down with them, how were those clowns in the manor for decades? It's an amazing film, but it confuses me beyond belief how we regard the vintage tapes found in the clock canon, while every single second of the present day events mess up the timeline so much they have to be ignored. Fifty percent prequel, fifty percent spinoff, I guess? Lol.

to add some information I literally just finished watching the newest one and Patrick didn't break his arm in the car wreck (notice he has no cast?) it is said a couple times that he lost use of the arm, like nerve damage or something that made him unable to use the arm. Also it is purely speculative on your part that he started working at the hotel after the accident - the hotel hired locals and I doubt after something horrible like that happened he ran out and got a job. TBH the more logical conclusion is that he had the job beforehand and since he lived in a small rural town people knew what happened and thats why he was approached about bringing his sister back.

Semi-spoilery question About the ending of the 4th one, Origins, shouldn’t he have been much older if he is the same one at Hell House and later at the Manor? Also, if that is what they are implying, why not cast a taller actor? Also, what happened to the Carmichael father? I’m assuming they will explain Tully and the arrest warrant and Abigail in a future movie, but the clown explanation is only semi-fulfilling.

There’s a 30+ time jump between how we saw them originally. And only 3 clowns that all have the same structure. The main one wears the same clothes! I think they will connect it up in a future film

I thought the Carmichael had too much shaky cam. I had to look away from the screen too often and it broke the suspense. This almost NEVER happens to me with found footage. Maybe I'll give it another view.

One thing that bothers me is Patrick's motive. In order to bring ONE family member back he agrees to murder THREE? Like what'd they do to be so less important than Margaret?

Why are people so in love with Carmichael Manor? Its slow and yes i agree the music and sound effects pretty well ruined the scares. And somehow Patrick is the clown? And for how long? So much confusion after this. Just watched all 4 movies this week. 1 and 2 were good. 3 was terrible. Cant say i was impressed with 4 at all. Maybe somebody can succinctly explain why 4 is so good?

OMG, this video is haunted….I tested putting a spoiler alert with time stamp at 1 second. Ironically, I saved it at around 100 seconds…and the spoiler warning popped on the screen. (I actually meant to type ‘contains spoilers’). I got quite far into this video without watching the final movie first 🤦‍♀️.

A video that explains the films of course has spoiler hours how else would I explain it? Maybe you’re looking for a review?

@@spookyastronauts Hence the facepalm emoji 😝! Not so much a review, I had literally just woken up. I’ve seen videos talking about movies without giving away the plot and storyline. I half expected it to be something referencing a true story the movies were based on. The fact that there was no spoiler warning at the getgo had me think “chill, Winston!!”.
