i really like how in this one video there are so many familiar and recognizable clothing items from rachel's previous vlogs (e.g smiling tee, realisation par dress, OV leggings, kitsune sweater from paris). we live in such a consumerist society (probably reinforced by style influencers), and it's nice to see unique, investment pieces become recycled like they should be.

I like the fitness and nutrition stuff as long as you add some disclaimers! This type of nutrition + fitness is about body transformation, not necessarily about health, and i don’t know if many people understand the difference, so it can be potentially dangerous for some viewers.

I usually love your videos but found this video quite disturbing. The “summer body” title is rooted in dieting and body shame, in a bid to meet a certain standard of beauty that is not realistic for majority of people.I’m certain you meant no harm and while you are entitled to your lifestyle choices regarding food and your body, I think only certified professionals should be forthcoming with information about health and fitness because impressionable people are watching this and wondering why they can’t live on such little and limiting foods whilst also working out religiously.

A lot of comments are trying to shame Rachel for wanting to do this but isnt that her choice? She is a grown ass women who set her mind to do something that is really hard, stuck with it and got results. It was only for 5 days. She didn't say she was switching her lifestyle to this diet because it's obviously not normal. You can't rely on youtubers, or anyone really to be an example of what you want to do with your life. you have to research and be confident in yourself to discern what is right for you. Stop shaming people. Anyways what I really wanted to comment was this was nice to watch as I have been eating way healthier and weight training not anywhere close to this but similar in the fact that it's fitness. SO i enjoyed this and related and feel motivated to keep putting in the work I am doing. Thanks for just being and doing you as always, Rach
@lysuenn6 жыл бұрын
When you're a public figure like this, especially to so many young girls, it's not 'just her personal summer fitness goals' anymore. This is a platform that carries influence (Rachel is aware of this), so despite her Manic Pixie Dream Girl persona, you can't just disregard comments that don't worship her as 'negative' or 'hating' - there are real consequences that come from perpetuating the 'summer body = skinny body' mindset. or 'Eat severely under your caloric intake and in 5 days YOU WILL GET THIS DREAM BODY!' - right now, this is what this video is promoting. Yes, it's on the audience to do their own research but it is also simultaneously on Rachel to understand her demographics - impressionable young girls who look up to Rachel, so they can look like her. You think 11 year old girls are going to understand the context of anorexia and bulimia?
@aadxy6 жыл бұрын
Hi, I agree with many of your points. But I'm not disregarding comments that are negative as hate nor was I coming from that place. As you stated Rachel is aware of this and it shows that she changed the title of the video. If you watch Rachel you know that the intent of her videos and actions aren't to portray unrealistic standards of beauty. So my frustration lies with the viewers who should know this. There is a way to constructively criticize and point out things people should be held accountable for without shaming them. Which is what I was ultimately getting at. Many of the comments didn't seem to take that into account. I understand the complications and possible effects of this video. Yes, I realize that younger people may watch and are susceptible to being misinformed but they also have to learn to intake information and media but not attach to it, and we have to give people the space to do that. My comment wasn't from a place of praise or promoting anything. I was highlighting a different perspective amongst all the "shame on you." How about we find better ways to communicate accountability.
@aadxy6 жыл бұрын
and just to add there are many comments that did give great feedback as well. Thanks for sharing your perspective anyways-- it is all important.

I really like seeing fitness on your channel! I feel like it's important to see someone who is effortlessly beautiful like your self, actually showing the effort that it takes to take care of your body! I hope that makes sense, but I just personally feel like we don't see enough of the hard work it takes to be "pretty" and therefore people get discouraged and think things like, "why wasn't I born like that?" would love to see your future workout routines!

Thanks for the insight and input from everyone! With everyone’s personal fitness and threshold, there’s no right or wrong as long as you’re staying mindful of your body’s needs. I poorly worded the video, but I will learn from this to be more mindful of everyone’s experiences and of course always be inclusive to our community. This week was a challenge for myself as was monitored by a professional, and my plan might differ from someone else’s. Also, this week was about jump starting my routine and as stated in the description, not a sustainable lifestyle (at least for me). I did feel a difference in strength and energy in the week. But it is very important to always put health and mind first before anything else. I take ED triggers very seriously and would never want to do otherwise. I’ve changed the title and thumbnail of the video. What should I call the video? Also, since we’re on the topic, what are some of your tips for a healthier you?

I feel like there is this gross double standard where women can’t show themselves exercising/eating healthy without catching a rash of comments calling it “unhealthy”. Rachel worked with a trainer and was on his nutrition plan-I’m pretty positive that guy knew what he was doing. This was also a short-term workout (hence hell week, duh) to get proven results. If anyone knows anything about nutrition and weight loss, it’s a fact that you have to go into a calorie deficit. Eating clean and working out is actually an advisable option vs. people who go into calorie deficit solely through food. Plenty of vloggers and influencers will show unhealthy eating habits and they rarely receive backlash like this.

Please don't do videos that are 'fitness/clean-eating/diet-based' related anymore, because as a nutritionist (and someone who suffered from ED), this was a horrible idea. It didn't help that throughout your whole video all you could talk about was how much you're losing, you peacocked getting thinner legs, and your video is titled 'Summer Body'. I like watching you, but this time I think you need to sit and think about the messages you're sending out.

The problem is that you are projecting your own problems/views/thoughts onto Rachel - which is your own problem. Rachel is sharing an experiencing that isn't promoting any type of "unattainable" body. She clearly states is just for 5 days, they ate healthy and exercised. It is not her responsibility to navigate through what you or others think is appropriate for her to post.
@bexeila46376 жыл бұрын
When the slip of paper with measurements was included showing borderline underweight BMIs as the starting point, before restricting calories and working out to get a desired physique, I cringed. I know Rachel didn't mean to be harmful, but this video plays into the warped mindset many girls have of what is healthy/unhealthy.

Maradyn Hawkins Hahahaha sometimes I felt that way when it’s written out, but this was a snack before eating salmon, salad, and blueberries! I stated in the description that this is not sustainable. That diet is just insane. There is absolutely no need for such a restrictive diet with such a lean and beautiful body. I'm a nutritionist and I would only advise morbidly obese people to follow this meal plan. Of course, it made your abs look more defined but you mostly lost water. With a diet like that and the hardcore workouts, there is even a good chance that you're burning muscle. Whoever made the plan has either no nutrition-education or thinks that you're a couch potato with a BMI of 40. I'd love to see fitness videos on your channel. Your workouts look fun af.

RACHEL IS BACKKK!!!!
@SionedWillicombe6 жыл бұрын
For someone who's recovered from an eating disorder, this kind of behaviour really really scares me. A few years back, I had a body similar to Rachel's. I wanted to be the "better version of myself" and started dieting like this, justifying it by convincing myself and everyone around me that it was "healthy". I developed anorexia, which gradually turned into bulimia. I went to hell and back. Five years later, I'm weight restored, yet I still struggle every day. Please don't get sucked into this kind of behaviour. Stop trying to look like something you're not. Your body will never look like someone else's (especially an edited photo of a celebrity), because every body works differently. It's so worrying seeing people get sucked into diet culture.

Actually yes! Avocados are full of healthy fats. A whole avocado would account for all the fat one needs in 1 day. That said, since she has other foods with fats throughout the day like cashews, etc., 1/2 an avo is fine. Eggs are a good source of protein. 2 -3 eggs a day is sufficient (depending on your body size, age, needs, diet, etc.)
