LOL...as a combat game mechanic mod creator I was told for YEARS by many PRO developers that a realistic combat game was not possible and even if they were they would not be fun. I am happy to see that old thinking starting to slip away. I just wish this DEV would make a more active parry system. Allow me to SWITCH back and forth from defensive to offensive with a button push so I can pick to concentrate on attacks and movement OR parry and movement. Contrary to popular belief in gamming parry and blocks can be just a in depth, strategic and fun to manipulate as attacks. And switching on the fly would give this game even more strategy than it already has with the great movement, combat timing, and angle choices this game has now. Even if all the player was doing was picking TYPES of blocks and parries with the controls. Like if I step to the side at the same time as pressing the "glancing" parries class then the game could pick from a set of those types of counters but not other types. Thus making the player more responsible for the strategy and success or failure of their counters while the attacks are controlled by the player's AI the same way the Blocks/parry are controlled as the game is now.

I've been working with his animation packs in Unreal for a few years now, and it's quality stuff. But, when blades clash in unpredictable locations, getting the limbs holding those blades to react believably is much more technically involved than using existing animations. @@yugen It took me a while to get into it. With Wild Hunt at first I felt like the general movement in the game was really stiff. What makes the combat decent is how the alchemical elements factor in. In terms of sword action it leaves a lot to be desired, but combined with the other systems in the game it's not bad. But the best things about the Witcher games are the writing and voice acting; combat is always pretty secondary.

This looks excellent. I'd love options in the UI to hide the flags during the match for that "full immersion" feel, but also, I'd love to have the option to turn on stamina bars or status indicators (whichever ones actually exist) so that I can better understand what resources are at play in the game and understand the design. For instance, I understand that lightly injured characters are "tired" and that characters that have swung their sword around a lot are "tired" but I don't know if they are the same or if they last the same amount of time. Likewise, when a training mode is available, it would be nice to be able to opt into practicing fighting against an injured/tired opponent or when I'm injured/tired myself. A few friendly tips from a fellow game deigner who loves this game :) 1. Look at the hand how he holds the sword at 1:10 because everything is SO WELL MADE in this game, the hand holding the sword looks weird. 2. If characters get tired and this is important maybe a stamina bar should help? Or maybe you made this like that on purpose. 3. Not so sure about the double tap to dodge control setup. Could this be changed so that the player moves in a direction and then presses a button to dodge in that direction? Can be a setting in controls. It will fit much more when you can already move in all directions. I am following this game closely and looking forward to playing it!!!

The game looks promising and seems to have enough cool mechanics to build the proper fighting game out of it. I'm only a little worried about auto-guarding. Seems like there is not much you have to do to stay safe, but sometimes it just won't work as it's the physics engine deciding what hits and what doesn't. I just don't want this guard to seem too hard to break for the attacker while at the same time feel 'random' for the defender. ...but it seems stamina and minor wounds affects this heavily too so maybe it does make gameplay sense I cannot grasp yet ;D
@Kubold4 жыл бұрын
Autoguard is practically exactly like in Tekken. In Tekken you block when not pressing anything or when pressing backwards. In here it's just one step further - you also block when pressing fwd or lt and rt. For me personally it feels very much like tekken blocking.
@ИльяКривошей-й5п4 жыл бұрын
@@Kubold if so, what options do I have to open up an extremely deffencive player who is willing to block all day long and hesitates to push any attack buttons and forward? Try to get in close and grab him? Maybe it's possible to catch poorly timed backstep or sidestep?
@Kubold4 жыл бұрын
@@ИльяКривошей-й5п Attack takes less stamina than successful parry, so you can bash at his sword until he gets tired and his guard animations slow down or even stop, it doesn't take long, especially when you have a 1.2kg longsword and opponent has a 800g karabela. You can go close range and push his hand away, grab him or kick and punch him. You can push his blade aside using long guard. At last, you can let the timer go down to 0. Player who dominated the match wins - but it's an option for events where someone HAS to win and avoiding fight is not an option.

Non lethal wounds greatly reduce your stamina capacity and regeneration rate and change your walking and attacking animations and speed of changing guards. so, do non-decisive (I won't call them lethal, as some of them leave the opponent clearly alive) have both short-term AND long-term effects - as in, character being rendered much weaker for a limited time, after which it regains some of their strength, yet they remain weaker than a non-wounded character - for the duration of the round? Or maybe there are effects that do not "wear off" until the end of the round? it's somewhat important, as the previous most similar game, the Japanese *Bushido Blade* for PSX had non-lethal hits with effect continuting for the remainder of the round (or rather match, as a single lethal blow was enough to either proceed, or have to press Start to "Continue") - like, arm wounds forcing the character to wield the weapon with a single hand and slowing the attacks down, leg wounds making the character unable to stand and walk (this was changed in the sequel, as it proven too annoying).
@Kubold4 жыл бұрын
@@adzi6164 Your first paragraph is correct, it has short and long term influence. For example if you are hurt really bad (a lot of damage but not yet dead) you can permanently end up with tired, slow walking or limping and "tired" animations of attacks (they look like third duel of Duelists movie), which have a veeery big overswing and recover times. Yet they still can be lethal if they land.

Sooooo, about everyone commenting on the autoblock, I think you should create two rule sets. One where there is autoblock and one where you block manually. I think maybe it might work well to like hold shift or one of the gamepad buttons in conjunction with the four attack buttons. The attack button you choose will be the angle you guard at while holding shift or left trigger. Kinda like how some racing games have two different rule sets, one with realistic car handling and one with assisted car handling. Jet fighter games have this too where one button set makes the plane turn automatically for you while the other button set requires you to roll the plane before pulling up to make a turn.
