People need to remember, this new guy is not Austin, he will never be Austin, and we should not compare him to Austin. Give the guy a chance, he fits in. He has a beautiful voice. Home Free is moving onto a new direction and we should appreciate that.

Thank you I’ve been saying the same thing since the beginning. The hate campaign has to stop it’s getting annoying. I think he’s a perfect fit and it will only better over time. Austin was with them 11 years Bastien has only been a with them a month also Austin is from Georgia and Bastien is from Detroit completely different.

It was a great introductory song for Bastien! This is an absolute "show off" song for every single one of them. Wicked beat boxing from Mr. Rupp and Rob and Chance nailed it! As always, Tim is hanging out with the BASS. Loved this reaction!

Some people questioned HF's choice of Bastein - I think because it seemed to be a very quick decision, but they knew him well, he worked with them before, they knew his voice, his energy - he is not Austin, but Chance wasn't Chris, either. It looks like Bastein will fill that place in the group admirably. Chance and Austin both released new solo music this week - both originals, too.

Towards the end, they show it, with Chance clearly singing those really high falsetto notes. They had said before that Tim had the highest falsetto (higher than Austin's), but I'm think it may be Chance now. That a Bb5, an octave above the usual high tenor Bb.

Bastien was singing with Home Free when Rob joined the group around 2009 , he was also part of the 2nd string to complete obligations when HF was filming The Sing-Off. This song was just the one to introduce, Bastien, to the Home Fries. It's already on my daily playlist. Chance has done high adlibs before. Check out their Justin Timberlake cover of Can't Stop the Feeling. Great analysis as usual.

That's good to know. Because they were very much "the country group" in that show. That's all that I want to hear to be all in on Bastien: how does he do with the more country stuff? He sounds great here, of course. Good choice of a song that lets us hear his unique voice. It was less easy to tell when they did that first introduction (where he sang live).

Bastien is going to be a great addition to Home Free! he actually has some history with the group. Whenever they went on the Sing Off, they had to have a B group to fulfill their tour dates. Bastin was in that B group. He also was a contestant on The Voice in OneUp Duo. Also, I love your analysis! Never skipping forward past it.

Great to see you jumping on this so quickly - I know you don't have a lot of time for extra reactions, but if you'd like to see more of Bastien, when Chris Rupp left HF in 2016, one of the things he did was to found another group with his sister Tristin, Bastien, and another female singer, called 7th Ave, and they have some great features for him.

What I find interesting is that he doesn't sound like he's singing high like Austin does. Sure, you heard that jump to the high B. But when he sang that high Eb, you couldn't tell it was higher than Austin sings when not in falsetto.

I refuse to compare..... afterall it is "HOMEFREE" They are amazing!!!! I am all in with HOMEFREE!!! Sound great and not missing a beat.......... I learned that several years ago as others made changes in their careers and HOMEFREE did not suffer any dropoff and the changes became natural and I simply enjoy this group, they have been my number one group I listen to by a landslide of nearly 90% of all I listen too. Love their music.❣

Thanks for your analysis. Home Free did a great cover of one of my favorite Bonnie Raitt songs. Bastien's voice was perfect for the lead. Everyone sounded awesome in the background vocals, with Tim's bass & Adam's vocal percussion. Looking forward to more of the new songs with the newest member.

Bastien seems to fit in very well! He is also from Detroit(?) which probably at least partially explains his different styling. The rest of the guys are from smaller towns, with Chance and Tim being from the Deep South. Bastien also seems to have a lot of energy, too! Thank you very much for getting to this while it is still new. If you’d like to check out a solo project from Austin, there is one called Empty House that is very unique (and amazing) that he recorded when recording a fan’s original lyrics was still a part of his perks on his website. As far as I know only two reactors have explored it and I think it is one of his best recordings.

This is really so awesome! A great entrance for Bastien, but as if he had always been part of Home Free. The Home Free sound is just there. Especially if you listen to it with your headphones. Because even though the lead, harmonies, bass and beatboxing are so great, you still hear/recognize every member sound/voice in this song. The video is also fun, as if Home Free is in my living room where people are singing and laughing.

Great reaction mate. AB has in an incredible voice. A little smoother around the edges than Austin's, which isn't a knock on either. Austin's voice has a sharp piercing edge to it while AB's is closer to Rob's tambour. I probably enjoy Austin's voice style just a tick more but there isn't any drop-off in tenor quality with his replacement.

This was such a great choice to introduce Bastien outside of concerts to the wider public. It was suggested by him too, actually. About those high notes towards the end. During the premiere of this video here on KZbin Home Free asked what we thought about those in the chat, so it's quite possible those are really done by Chance. And he can go quite high, too, so it could be done by him. It would be at the top of his range, though. But, as we all know, they like to joke around quite a bit, so they could pull out legs, too. Though, I can't remember if they ever shown someone doing a part while it's actually not done by him. Thanks for the reaction and great analysis.

According to Chance on his Discord, he was joking about, pretending to do that upper line. I *think* it's Bastien, but I'm not positive, but it's not Chance. He has a very impressive range (4+ octaves), but it's not quite that high (or at least not that good that high, if you know what I mean). They're all so talented, with such huge ranges, we fries weren't quite sure either, so one of us asked him.

Absolutely! For a while there I was starting to feel that it had become the Tim and Austin show. Not to disparage them- I love all of HF. But how about sharing the wealth? Maybe with this change Chance will be up front more. And after this soulful performance by Bastien, with Rob’s adlibs, they’ll start bringing us Gospel Rob more often, and really venture into more R&B, jazzy, bluesy music with him and Bastien. Also, Chance’s new solo release is just beautiful.

Perhaps, but some people don't like to take the spotlight as much. Every group has members that will naturally be better suited for the more 'spotlight-ish' roles. I've not seen enough of Home Free (especially in the Chance era) to comment fully, but I think Chance's role is far more significant than you might think, particularly with regard to harmonic function 🎶 Each member is equally as important in their own way, whether or not it seems like they get enough of the 'appreciation' or solos etc

Bastion as well acquainted with the Rupp family.. When Chris left Home Free he started seventh Avenue! Adams sang several songs with them. Also later he sang a duet with Mom Cindy(keyoaed) & sister Tristen! Don’t forget that Adam chance and Tim can sing high tenor!

I heard this a couple weeks ago - -we get a heads up because we went to same college as Rupps in Minnesota so we get a link in our Quarterly magazine. I had just heard a glimpse of him and thought he sounded pretty good. I look at him as a “Peaky Blinders” sort of so UK has really adopted that sort of style. Hair mostly although not exact. I liked this - very pleasant and fun to listen to- I think you may have that high tenor note in your repertoire? This has lines thru my comment from my side - no clue?

I'm under the impression that the high falsetto part at the end was really Bastien and Chance just lipped it for comedic effect. That said, I can't say for sure cause Chance has never really sung that high in his falsetto before, so idk what he sounds like up there lol

A nice start. Thanks. Homefree has been singing for a very long time and has been through quite a few singer changes. The only 2 I have listened to are Chris Rupp (Adam's brother) who has moved to Florida and sings with several people but is really retired. He does compete in ballroom dancing of all things. The other is the bass before Tim - Elliott Michael Robinson and now an attorney but he does sing sometimes particularly with the Bass Gang.

Bastien not only brings a little bit more modern fashion, he also brings a few dance moves. If you watch some of the videos that he was in with Chris Rupp in 7th Ave you'll see he's used to doing a bit of dancing.

My impression is that Bastien is a "good" addition to HF. I hope everyone doesn't have to work so hard to polish the transition in the future. I wasn't familiar with the song, but I loved it.

I love the blend between Rob and Bastein. I think Rob doesn't have to work as hard to match tones as he did with Austin. His voice sounds more relaxed to me.
