@@RobertBoyle11 I was sad to see that programme come to an end! It was an insight, in advance, into the tech that was changing our world. There was a guy on one that had some kind of electrical jack implanted directly in his skull and electrodes going into his brain to sense and counter epileptic fits. When one happened he'd get a tiny jolt and it would prevent the seizure from happening. He wasn't even aware of the jolt. Prior to having it done he was suffering around sixty fits a day. Stranger things happen...I met him in person, fifteen, maybe sixteen years ago, still going strong and he's a great guy! He hadn't changed much in the intervening years and recognised him as soon as I clapped eyes on him, due to the jack. Nothing has come remotely close to _Tomorrow's World_ and likely never will.

It's what makes it such an effective safety ad. Most countries really seem to downplay the extent of the horrors that such accidents and negligence can cause, and as such it doesn't achieve the desired result.

My favourite TV program even now, if there’s a chance of seeing a rerun or video on here I’m there. I remember I’m the early day of cellsphone and watching the demos on Tomorrows World thinking they’ll never catch on, and the early days of CDs. The programme was educational with a little humour and also gave me the impetus to get into computers. Something that is still boring my family to tears. It’s genetic, my grandfather was one of the first people to be granted a licence to transmit on radio frequencies, my father worked for a big department of the civil service in communications and I was a motorcycle courier in London. Obviously the interest is going to be passed down right?

The Samaritans is a British suicide/advice hotline organization. They are actually more like a resource where you can call and talk to someone about whatever you want without fear of repercussions. In the commercial, we can tell what the woman is talking about (agony, suffering) but we cannot hear her. She is crying out desperately to be heard but finds herself unable to express her pain; her words are warped until they are unrecognizable. Her cries for help are drown out by a society which silences her, censors anything remotely genuine. She tries to talk about her trauma but all that comes out is a nightmarish sound that gives you a sense of frustration because we never talk about what is REAL, lest we be judged-- there is a deep pain and loneliness we all feel but are taught from an early age to hide. We must always "fake it till we make it" and not speak about our private thoughts and feelings. The dark corner that is revealed at the end as the camera pans out adds to the stifling, claustrophobic atmosphere and shows how she has nowhere left to turn. So if you are at rock bottom, need to talk about your deepest secrets or just be yourself, the Samaritans are saying they can provide an outlet and help guide you through the hardest times so you will never have to be alone.

The rspca one is because of overcrowding in kennels, not enough donations means they can’t afford to look after and rehabilitate all the animals they take in and sadly have to euthanise the “lost causes” who won’t get adopted, it’s still quite a problem today especially with people who refuse to adopt from “kill shelters” which only do so as those shelters have to take in every stray that is reported and cannot pick and choose or even refuse animals depending on how full they are, so the sicker and older animals or ones with bad behavioural problems who cannot be rehabilitated are usually put down to make room, it’s a nasty thing but it is done out of desperation

It's difficult to understand their approach until you think about the phrase used without thinking about the visuals... "spend a pound or we will pull the trigger" ... By "pull the trigger" they actually meant "stop RSPCA operations" , The dog is there to give this phrase a completely different meaning, such as: "if we close shop, it would be as if we killed the animals that are neglected throughout the world ourselves... including this here cute, defenseless doggy. [Now give us money or else >:D] " They did use a creative way to shock people, I admit, but it is, regardless, defiantly way over the top, and superfluous.

I recall getting a VHS pushed through our door back in the 90s, in relation to a local acetate factory which was prone to explosions at the time. The VHS had information on as to what local residents should do in the event of a chemical incident at the factory. The factory had this siren you could hear sometimes, it was very eerie, no explanation came with the VHS, just instructions on what residents needed to do if they heard the siren. One day, I was outside in the garden and heard the siren, as I think they used to sound it for a test once a week, and I remember running inside the house, furiously closing all the windows and doors etc, and thinking the world was ending. My mum had paid very little attention to the VHS, which bothered me even more as it was like she was not taking this HUGE risk to life seriously, lol. Whoever was behind that did not think it out very well! Would have been better putting it on the news or in a local paper, or leaflets. I have Autism, and that video hiked my anxiety right up to the point I would not even go outside at one time.

Dude was thinking the same thing! It was her own fault. That is why I never look in my rear view.
@mikeplaysit10 жыл бұрын
Krazie Kid's Reviews inc. The rear view and side view mirrors aren't meant to be a driver's sole means of seeing what is behind them or to the side of them. They literally serve one purpose, and that is to allow the driver to glance at them and see the blind spots that they can't see by turning their head and looking themselves. For example, if you look around and look to the left or right to make sure the lanes clear to merge, you have a blind spot create by your rear pillar area, and if your side view mirrors are properly set, you should be able to give them a quick glance to make sure that the lane truly is clear. I hate it when I look over, driving down the road and there's a person fixated on their rear view doing whatever. Most of the time it's a mother who's got one hand on the wheel, eyes on the mirror, and her other hand somewhere in the back seat area messing around with her little brat in the back seat... One time I saw some lady putting on her make up in the rear view driving down the road, we were doing 44-45 MPH, and someone pulled out in front of her and she collided with them.... When the cops got to the scene she was telling the cops "They pulled out RIGHT in front of me, I tried to slam on the brakes but it was too late!", lying her ass off. After she told the cop that, I told him that her story was bullshit, and about how she was fucking with her face in the mirror, and that the car that pulled out, pulled out well ahead of her, and had been on the road already, starting to accelerate for a number of seconds when she finally looked down, freaked out and panicked.

It was his son fault for not wearing a seat belt...
@linuxducky10 жыл бұрын
henry bergström It was both - she wasn't paying attention to the road also

I'm going to say actually that blame is shared between both her and her son. BUT, more toward her. Because 1. The entire reason that her son not wearing a seat belt became an issue was because of the fact that she was not paying attention to the road in the slightest, and caused the accident. Sure, if he was wearing a seat belt, then she likely wouldn't have been killed by his body impacting her, but we have to remember what's causing his body to fly forward. Also, depending on where you live, if someone isn't wearing their seat belt in _your_ vehicle, you can actually receive the violation, even if they are an adult. Because that is *your* vehicle, and it's *your* responsibility to make sure that it and the passengers who's lives are in your hands are safe. She should have made him wear his seat belt. Not to mention, in the video her son appears to be a minor, which means in almost all places, she would be the one receiving the seat belt violation if they were pulled over. And being that her son is in fact that, her son, and a kid, she is ultimately responsible for him. EITHER WAY, if this were real (well, this likely happens all the time, but in this particular video), I would feel sorry for the son. Because he's going to have to live the rest of his life knowing that something he did contributed towards the death of his own mother. He's likely going to be stricken with such guilt, knowing that if he'd only grabbed that seat belt, and clicked it into the buckle when he got in, his mother would likely still be alive...

@faridavanessazerondoblado89 it's Axe. In the UK, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand it's called Lynx because of trademark issues. But it's all the same product, same company etc :)

Radiant Reuniclus and these days the RSPCA does not only look after and rescue domestic and wild animals, but they also prosecute people who have hurt and abused animals. A lot of volunteers also support them and it helps a lot.

I agree with the glass one once I was at sandbanks bare footed on the beach and there was a little piece of glass, my foot was two inches away from it, I nearly stepped on it I saw it and picked it up, I said very angrily to my Mother's Godmother "I nearly stepped on this, it could have gone into my foot"

Missing "Rabies means death", probably the scariest of them all (that is, if you find the footage of real life rabies ridden children set to screeching music scary) And also ,Protect and Survive (especially the episode where they show you how to wrap up your dead relatives in plastic)
