The place I see it the most for the large variety is in Asian supermarkets. I think I've only seen the small variety at my local Safeway.

issue is do not know how much water need to put in the glutinous rice so that wont be mushy. As steaming, the steam water also drop to the rice and could make the rice mushy. Guess your mom is experience cook, and know how to judge. But for us, do not know
