@HelloMellowXVI

Look at the difference between my laughter in my reactions to say kung fu Hustle and naked gun. You'll see an entirely different reaction. When I watch a comedy I expect to be gut busting laughing. I wasn't doing that, and you didn't see the other hour of the movie where I wasn't laughing at all, I showed you like 20 something minutes of what I wanted you to see. Why would I post a reaction of me not laughing? That's boring... now like I said, this movie was below average.

Leslie Nielsen was always funny in many comedy spoofs he was in ranging from Mel Brooks movies like this one to Scary Movie 3 and 4. There is one spoof Nielsen did in 1990 called Repossessed which is a parody of The Exorcist and it also stars Linda Blair who played Reagan in the original movie. It's not one of the best spoofs out there but it does have it's funny moments.

I love Repossessed. I keep requesting it from different reactors that I watch, but it seems like nobody knows this movie. I wouldn't say that everything Leslie Nielsen is in is good. He was in some comedies later in his career that I didn't care for, like Spy Hard or Wrongfully Accused. I think he just got so well known as a comedic superstar that studios thought dropping him into any movie would make it successful.

For the parts in movies that have people jumping out windows they use sugar glass, which is also known as candy glass or breakaway glass, which is made up of corn syrup, water, and sugar. It is used in stunt scenes instead of glass to prevent harming the actors. Though it is not as dangerous as real glass, it still has the potential for injury

0:12 - Hope you enjoyed the 'Brahm Stalker' version. 16:45 - Medical tradition holds that garlic has purifying properties that cleanse ill humors and bring positive energies into the area. These energies are anathema to undead creatures and demons, so vampires are weakened in their presence. 17:05 - An enema is when they shove a funnel up your back passage and pour hot water directly into your colon. It...gets messy... 20:59 - Other than the ears thing, that's real. 21:20 - That's a REAL reaction. The actor had no idea how much blood there would be. 27:33 - There's various techniques, but one of the most common is through the use of a substance called 'sugar glass.' It's basically shaped rock candy and is often used for breakable bottles in fight scenes. You have to watch the credits all the way to the end or else you miss Dracula getting in the last word. (I WAS going to link you to the last few seconds of the credits with no comment so you could just see it yourself, but the only version of the credits I found on KZbin cuts off before the end).

Actually if you wait until the credits stop rolling you’ll hear Dracula get the last word and the last laugh! If you can try to watch this with Mel Brooks Commentary. Yes, Vampires should be able to turn into bats and wolves. But it's cheaper on the special effects and/or animal handling budget, so these days they usually leave that part out of the shows and movies. About the Doctor doing the autopsy to his students, there was probably the first show with a county medical examiner 'Quincy, M.E.' and it had a similar scene in the opening. In the show this happens when Quincy wants to go to check something for a case, but has to do a 2 hour lecture. So he makes his students pass out or run to the bathroom with a pretty gruesome autopsy. No students, no lecture. Movie glass sometimes was made out of clear sugar. Especially the bottles ones that were smashed on people's heads.

The cool thing tho is that, while the goofiness is turned up to 11, Mel Brooks' portrayal of Van Hellsing is pretty close to the book version. He's described as a cheery man, who's accent and friendly behaviour makes him seem like a huge goofball, which to an extent he kind of is. But whenever something supernatural comes along he *instantly* turns into a badarse who you'd have no trouble believing could square up against Dracula.

This movie parodies vampire movies in general, but more specifically, much of it comes from the 1931 Dracula movie with Bela Lugosi. There are also elements of the 1970's Hammer Film Dracula movies starring Christopher Lee as Dracula. Mel Brooks was thinking of doing this movie in black & white like he did with Young Frankenstein but decided against it because if you're going to do a vampire movie, you need the bright red blood visuals like they had in the Hammer Film Dracula movies. The reason the woman in the village was doing that with her voice is because in a lot of monster movies, especially older ones, there is usually an old Gypsy/wise woman with that kind of voice inflection who warns the out of town characters about the dangers of the night (which the characters almost immediately ignore).

13:27 I think the nurse is Billy Crystal's daughter. All I know for a fact is that she went to the same school as Mel Brooks's son so Mel Brooks, Amen Bancroft and Billy Crystal were all at the same PTA meetings.

I was happy that you've watched this movie. Now you know that they made a comedy of that movie. And that you find another of Mel Brooks comedies

this leans heavier on the 1931 Bela Lugosi version, with a splash of Hammer and a ljttle Coppola as garnish

Spaceballs is definite first of my Mel Brooks films. This is my second favorite with Men in Tights a close third. Steven Webber during the blood scene makes me crack up every time knowing that he wasn't told there would be so much blood and he was able to stay in character. I think this film gets a lot of hate because Leslie Neilson doesn't do his deadpan humor, instead he's doing something different. Peter Nichols also steals the show, I loved him in Numb3rs, but his dedication to this character amazes me.

Love this movie! I mean, how can you go wrong with Leslie Nielsen & Mel Brooks? While a lot of it does parodie Bram Stoker´s Dracula, it is almost a shot for shot parody - remake of the original Dracula from 1931 with Bela Lugosi. If you have never watched it, give it a try!

Fun fact, most movies that have characters jumping through windows or breaking glass will use panes of 'sugar glass'. It's made of corn syrup, water and sugar. It can technically still cut skin, but is a lot less likely to cause any serious damage.
