I bought some epidendrums from old boys on line and they are growing well in small coir hanging baskets under a 50%shade cloth here in Perth. They are hardy and do well here with every second day watering. They love being with my dendrobiums in baskets, now I’ve added sarcophagus to my mix with lovely flowers. Love your videos.

Very pretty plant. I live in Southwest Florida and have a HUGE “bush” in the front of my house of the traditional orange one. I planted a small handfull 15 years ago, totally ignore it and, voila😍

Hi Mathew, I was told some years ago that if you prune your crucifix orchids to the top-most pair of leaves after flowering they will not grow the keikis but instead push up more growths from the bottom of the plant and therefore make it more bushy. It definitely works in my garden and I personally prefer that look in preference to the messy aerial roots everywhere. Thanks for sharing this interesting epidendrum.

I'm a sucker for pendulous growing orchids so your idea of having them over your garage sounds like something you'd enjoy doing and seeing. Good luck!

I have a hard time growing these they are indoors with bright light water every two three days but it ends up with brown leaves and flowers don’t last long This is my second one and I was hoping to save it but it’s not doing well what am I doing wrong?

Ooo I don't know! They do like VERY bright light - even direct in the morning. I keep mine a little dryer in winter. I don't know where you are in the world but I put mine outside for summer so it can get some real heat - if you are able to do that give it a go. Also try letting it dry out more between watering. Good luck! Old leaves will turn yellow and drop so don't be TOO alarmed at that - as long as there is still fresh green growth.

Hello do you find that your orchid roots get stuck to the terracotta pots ?
@helloplantlovers Жыл бұрын
Some types do - you need to soak them over night before re-potting to loosen the roots.

The reed stem types are really not that particular about how they grow. This one, radicans, schweinfurthianum, and some others are all capable of being grown as epiphytes, terrestrial or semi-terrestrial. I have seen video of this species being planted in the ground around buildings in Costa Rica. Probably not advisable to grow it this way in Melbourne but you can always pull off a keiki and try.

When it's a bit bigger I will try some off sets outside and see what happens!

"Epidendrum" is Greek for "on tree", not Latin. And "centropetalum" is Greek for "central petal" or "centered petal", not "pointy".
