At the end of the day he paved the way for everyone in the industry. Thats it.

Kanye also learned a lot about fashion from his ex-fiancée Alexis Phifer. Alexis went to fidm, she was a stylist, and would have fashion books all over the place and Kanye would sometimes read them. Alexis also took Kanye to his first fashion week. I feel like she is a little unsung, because you can find clips of early Kanye, demonstrating a very limited knowledge of fashion. Dude didn’t even know who Marc Jacobs was or whether he was “still alive” 😅 (if you see that old Ye clip, it’s a funny one!) I think the women in his life were definitely his muses, especially Kim Kardashian. But again, Those fashion books Alexis introduced Kanye to 📚 were the same books he would introduce to Kim to elevate _her_ style. He threw away Kim’s entire closet and told her to read Carine Roitfeld’s ‘Irreverent’, and put those lessons to practice. Tbh Fashion schools could easily run marketing case studies on how Kanye, almost single handedly, took the Kardashians from C-list reality stars, to A-List fashion icons on every front row in Paris. All while making them wear his designs to skyrocket his own brand. You have to respect a master plan!

I wish you would have also covered how his early Yeezy season collections performed, they werent so good. His adidas yeezy shoes were successful all thanks to the Air Yeezy 2 being the apex of hype at the time (it was talked like One Piece in One Piece) along with rise of HBA, Been Trill and famous Lux brands starting to welcome street culture more in their collection with skateboard culture beeing the mood for 2013-2014. Leather joggers later became famous cuz Ye made it popular by wearing them himself not that the lux brands were out of touch The Air Yeezy 1 is a great representive amalgamation of elements that the sneakerhead culture (not as mainstream as today) loved back then. While the Air Yeezy 2 was one of the driving force of hype culture rising to mainstream attention at the time with the hunt for red october pairs were happening bundled with lucky copies of YEEZUS. Around 2012~2014 street fashion was reaching new heights and wider attention and Kanye, Virgil, DonC and Jerry Lorenzo were the driving force. They all synergized among each other which finally lead to Kanye being able to reach his goal of being perceived as a creative director

Why everybody act like it was Kanye alone who did all this? The video straight up tells you how many talented people he hired. EVERY SINGLE face in rap represents an entire TEAM of people, the guy whose name is on it (be it music, clothes, whatever) is just the branding, the guy you're supposed to worship, and y'all are giving them exactly what they want.

Yup hard to call him a genius when he's so dependent on actual creatives for everything he does. He's influential for sure, but the creative genius he thinks he is, nah. Especially when his entire gimmick is just to rehash and repurpose things from the past then take credit for them. As much as I try to give him credit I don't know anything that he's done that's actually original. Its all marketing, hype, and branding.

As hard as I try I can't see whats so special about him outside of music. I can't think of anything he's done that's actually original, or that he didn't piggyback off of someone else. This has always been his formula from sampling, to having Mike Dean, Bon Iver, and James Blake write his music, Consequence, Cyhi or Drake writting his raps, to ripping off Roshes and Crocs for his Yeezy 350s and Foam Rnnrs. Him wearing polos wasn't anything special or original, yet his stans and him act like he invented them lol. You have to be mad young or delusional to believe that. On top of that rappers have always had strong associations to luxury fashion brands so he didn't bring that to the game either. Plenty of rapper wore and rapped about designer goods before him. Flannel shirts? Grudge. Torn skinny jeans and Jordans? Google Chris Rock Born Suspect, or metal bands and sneakers. Rock band t shirts? C'mon do I have to say lol, when he obviously ripped off Metallicas logo for his yeezy logo. The bomber jacket and boots look he's been rocking? Skinheads. His all red outfits? James Brown Superbowl. The mask? Wu-tang, Jodeci, MF Doom, Daft Punk, etc, etc. Even his whole Donda bulky leather jacket and muscle tank top combo was a rip off of the 80s in general and late 80s/early 90s wrestlers specifically. How can he be a genius when he's always leeching off of other creatives? He went from Virgil to Jerry to Denma, but what has he actually done on his own? Virgil was successful with Pyrex Vison and Off-White, Jerry has FOG and Essentials, Demna Vetements. These are the real creatives. Kanyes never had anything as successful as those brands for a reason, atleast outside of shoes. Anything he's done not related to sneakers have failed, from Pastelle, to Donda, to Calabasas and even his own yzy clothing line was never anything amazing. He's entirely propped up by hype. This is why he was never taken seriously outside his cult of fans, he simply never had any proof of concept or anything to sell. Would he have had gotten to Nike without LV, or Adidas without Nike? Nope, but he wanted all of the respect and credit in the fashion world like an entitled brat without putting any real work in. But, but, but he interned! He interned! Interning isn't enough, how many interns come and go? He should have just went to fashion school if he was really interested in learning anything as opposed to just using interning as a short cut for credibility. Fashion houses only started taking him seriously when they realized they could use him to peddle clothes to impressionable kids and hypebeast. To which Demna and Balenciaga fully exploited and ran with. Its all never been anything more then glorified celebrity endorsements, or is Kim Kardashian suddenly on Kanyes level too now that she's considered a big name in the fashion world?
