I fucking adore the first one, the second was the best since the first but not quite as good, the third was fun as hell!... Not "good" I guess, but really entertaining!, the fourth I didn't like the first time around but it grew on me with repeated viewings, the 5th is a generic physiological thriller that some find entertaining but I don't personally because nothing that happens matters at all, there's no stakes to anything, the 6th is the same as the 5th but with Ashley Lawrence shoved in there, so eh.. Whatever, the 7th is more entertaining than the last 2 but still isn't much good at all, the 8th is absolutely terrible, the worst in the franchise, feels like American Pie mixed with Halloween Resurrection mixed with kids dressed as Cenobites. The 9th is also terrible.... But honestly I enjoyed watching it more than anything after the 4th, that's not a compliment though. The 11th changes loads of stuff, feels like a completely different universe with its own characters and is very mediocre.. but eh... It's way more entertaining and whole than anything since Bloodline. Conclusion: Watch the original and the sequel. If you love those films and are slightly open minded to enjoy stuff that makes less sense and changes stuff then watch 3 and 4. If you like physiological thrillers that repeatedly show random shit for no reason and have predicable outcomes then watch 5,6,7. If you're a retarded pre-teen then maybe watch 8. Only ever watch 9 if you have actually been watching this whole series torturing yourself, it may give you a nice change of pace after the last 4. Maybe watch 11 anyway.. 🤷🏻♂️.. It's not terrible but it's not that good.

This is one of my favorite horror movies because it felt so different and i liked the idea of the explorers of pleasure and pain. But I’m so happy you did this. This pretty much made my day. Also the Robbie Williams joke was too good. Literally no one else besides an actual brit would make that reference. The worst part about this movie now i have watched Star Trek ds9- all i can think about is the dad, Andrew Robinson, as the flamboyant cardassian spy and tailor Garak lol

There's only one person who could remake this movie: Neil Breen. Picture him as Larry, and Tommy Wiseau as Frank. Maybe Neil could play Pinhead, too. That would be a legendary dual performance...even in Hell, where they'd be playing it constantly.

The first two movies were the only really good ones, but I think Hellraiser 5 is underrated. From 6 onward, they just became gorn. I will agree that 9 was terrible, but at least it TRIED to recapture the feel of the original, which is more than most of the others did. This film also features something that nobody really does anymore: stop-motion sequences in a live-action film. I really wish that practice would make a comeback. So, when you finish this film series, which one will you pick up next, Puppet-Master?

@@BWMagus The thing is, Lovecraft managed to be scary. His tales were of the Dread Unknown, horrifying images and creatures, but... they were still scary, evoked fear in the reader. Hellraiser doesn't do that for me. Just makes me lose my appetite.

@xxcrysad3000xx5 жыл бұрын
@@austinhendry2933 Well it's true it doesn't feel that much like a Hellraiser film along the lines of 1 & 2, but after 3 & 4 it was refreshing. I thought it was conceptually cool how we got to follow the detective's journey through his own personal hell from having turned his back on his wife, partner, and parents, and how the kid being tortured who he was trying to save was himself. Not the first movie to do this sort of tale (Jacob's Ladder and Angel Heart did it too), but it was an effective horror thriller with a dose of police procedural drama thrown in the mix.

I remember when Baker was a big thing in like the late eighties early nineties, I met a guy a few years later that had a good deal of the Hellraiser movies and only novel I ever saw him read was a Clive Baker's, He still comes out with a novel here and there but he is not as big as he once was while the man who praised him years ago, Stephen King, is still coming out with a least a book a year and is still a big deal. And as for his son Joe Hill he writes horror that has a a sort of mix feel of his father's classic horror and the sort of gross body horror blood and guts slasher of Baker.

I could be wrong, but I feel like horror in all forms of media is in a slump. Not that no one is making anything, but they don't have impact, it's not a cultural phenomenon. I wonder if it has something to do with an anemic economy and uncertain future; people have enough shit to fear in their real life.
@stephennootens9165 жыл бұрын
@@BWMagus It could be all of the above. How can a monster scare you when you can see worse on any one of the half a dozen twenty-four hour news channels. They still make horror movies but many of them are just cheep and easy money grabs. As for books I'm not sure, most of the novels go straight to paperback and King has spent the last couple of years jumping from genre to genre.

I'm really wondering if Cinema Snob will be reviewing the ultra-low budget "Hellraiser: Judgement." It introduces some new lore to the mythos and, despite having a plot ripped off from "American Horror Story: Hotel," actually had a good third act and opened a door for a sequel which was explored in the comics.
