As a jumper, I'm thoroughly intrigued as how you know where you're going in an open field🤣 it's fairly easy for me in an arena but I feel I could walk a cross country course 30 times and still get lost😂😂
@sommerdonaldson44484 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you remember what the jumps look like instead the course😂
@emilycarroll65144 жыл бұрын
Trust me I thought I would have to walk it 100 times as well as ride the course a few times, but you remember certain combinations or a certain fence by color(s). I remember stuff like courses if I'm more hands on or actually doing the course myself. I school each fence and add them together so they would be repetition and eventually when I think my mare knows the course (as well as I do) we add the whole course and do that a couple times. Then if I have time I also walk it so I can visually see the difference in fences
@sherinnovak7294 жыл бұрын
Before the course opens for walking the competitors receive a map of it. All the fences are numbered in their order and color-coded by division. Most riders walk the course one or two times to commit it to memory.
@toms05164 жыл бұрын
It’s easier because most of them are pretty self explanatory as to which to jump like is you follow the general direction you’ll see the next fence and work it out pretty easily
@ellamcgarry22624 жыл бұрын
You get used to it! And when your riding the course you constantly think about the next jump!

I love the caveat at the beginning of the video. One of the (many) things that people used to say when I rode Competitive Distance was "oh well the horse does all the exercise". Obviously they aren't riders. Lee did so well. He really seems to love cross country. Love the way he took the last skinny!

I love your videos so much for so many reasons! And I especially love it when you keep the video rolling after you complete XC. It’s like I get to fangirl follow you around and listen to your thoughts & watch how you interact with other competitors, your horses & your students. So much love & respect for you!

You're so amazing, I just love to watch your xc runs, especially on the mustang, incredible!! I just got my new project horse- 4 1/2 year old OTTB filly, great, great granddaughter of Seattle Slew. Going to eventually do some low level, adult amateur eventing on her, probably training level, just competing for fun now... I wish I could meet you someday.. but I live in Northern California. Thanks so much for all the inspiration!!🐴

I can't agree more with your caption at the beginning! I used to ride quite frequently before my car accident, and my friends and family could never understand when I came back to the barn sweaty and out of breath. It's not only a workout for the horse, it's a work out for the rider too. I can't wait to get back to it once my doctors give me a clean bill of health! I miss it so much!

Wow! Incredible ride. You are excused for all the heavy breathing. Me watching, I could hardly catch my breath. I think this has been the most challenging go I’ve seen you ride through. New undies are on the “to do” list today. Maybe in another life I was a laundress. I am “over the moon” impressed with your riding skills. Well done...I’ve gotta take a Valium, I’m so wound up from that. A thousand thanks! Elisa...you RULE!

Love the helmet cams, and the way you talk to your horses. I’m noticed how there was a lot more people at the shows in Great Britain, does that affect the horses much, or do they over it quickly?

I am having a hard time figuring this out okay, my horse camp trainer says there isn't such a thing as hunter pacing but I want to do something similar to that, I don't care to be in a team of 3 or 4 others and I don't care to be alone either, so could you, if you know, help me out? Kinda explain hunters, hunter jumping, and hunter trials, please? Thank you!!

Let me start by saying I love these videos. But how sad that it's necessary to put a disclaimer at the beginning about heavy breathing. It's not as if you're sitting on the couch for crying out loud 🤦♀️ many people would find it nearly impossible to hold a two point/half seat for the long side on an arena, let alone a cross country course, while piloting a horse.
@debrabiderman42754 жыл бұрын
It doesn't stop those same people from saying stupid stuff like Why is you breathing so hard, the horse did all the work. Seriously, when I was about 31 I purchased my one (and only) horse. My BFF was into aerobics and speed walking and she used to rag me something awful about how riding could not be aerobic exercise. So finally she came out to the barn to meet Bongo.....and I put her up on him and after about a one minute walk (on the lunge) I sent him into a slow trot. As she remembered her lessons she tried to post ......she never again threw that criticism about my lack of exercise.
