I work in medical microbiology where we see Pseudomonas aeruginosa on a regular basis - in fact I had a lovely blue plate of it today cultured from a urinary infection. Although it's a normal part of the skin flora, it can cause opportunistic infections of the lungs, urinary tract and even sepsis, especially in immunocompromised individuals. It can grow in air or in the absence of air, which is why it thrives in pockets between the nail plate and nail enhancements that trap and hold moisture. Two fun facts: the blue/green colour is caused by pyocyanin generated by the bacterium and a pure, young culture smells pleasantly floral, like old fashioned soap. But beyond that, moist, airless places are also places that have the potential to grow some very nasty bacteria indeed - take Suzie's excellent advice and eliminate them.

AM, I worked as RN in leg ulcer/compression management. Pseudomonas was very difficult to deal with under 5 layers of bandages. Antibiotics didn’t work, as exposure was better, which could easily be achieved. Stop compression, advance the ulcers. Keep the compression, advance the pseudomonas. We would increase bandage/dressing changes, which also delays healing. Best to try avoiding with scrutinizing each visit, cleansing and drying as much as possible. Best wishes from Devon UK

These videos are fantastic ❤ back in the day when I became a nail technician there was no you tube to learn from. I had to go to as many salons that would allow me to come in and shadow as possible. Shadowing is when you stand behind them all day watching everything they do in order to learn new techniques. It took me years to become a good nail tech. I am so happy that Suzi is doing this now to help other people learn faster. The industry has become very competitive.

Just for anyone else’s info. I’ve had the greenies twice from press ons due to my negligence in letting water and stuff get under. But what I did was take everything off and file down as much as could be safely done and I bought a breathable polish. The breathable polish allows the spot to be exposed to air and not spread the bacteria and also I wasn’t walking around with green spots on my nail.
@hannathehumblebard101
@hannathehumblebard101 Жыл бұрын
Press-ons are the worst honestly. Most are too curved to fit properly and the glue bubbles easily, leaving big air gaps. This is what happened to me too, and a big part of what made me go buy a beginner kit and basic efile. The press-ons with the tacky tabs I don't mind cos they're only for a short time.
@Jiminie53421
@Jiminie53421 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, press ons are hard 😓 The good and bad thing about glue is that it comes off easier than gel or acrylic. It’s good because removal can be much easier depending on how you apply it but then the bad thing is that it also lifts 😫 That’s why I tend to use gel if the press ons are translucent/transparent or I use acrylic if they are opaque since I’m just more confident that I won’t get any air bubbles or lifting that way!

She replied very unpleasantly and said she’d take me out of school then and I could take care of my baby brothers (10yr age difference) until I could go to beauty school. I also learned how to do nails from Suzie's videos! It was about 5 years ago when I decided to do gel and acrylic nails on myself to save me some money. I had no idea how to do it or what I needed to buy, so I started a search on youtube to find out all the answers. I watched a whole bunch of videos from other nail technicians and they just made me more confused than I already was. Then I found this passionate and professional nail tech, who was able to answer every single question that I had. It seemed like she was reading my mind! I have been watching NCE videos from then on and never stopped doing gel acrylic nails on myself. So many people tell me it looks like my nails are done by a professional, without realizing that I'm the one doing all the work in my living room while watching movies on tv to keep me entertained for a good 3 hours. This is all thanks to Suzie! I'm so proud of my nails because of her! Thank you ever so much for all the knowledge you have provided me over these few years. By the way, I never had any greenies on my nails, so I guess Suzie does a pretty good job teaching this amazing skill.

During the pandemic we did a deep cleaning of everything at work. My hands were in water a lot and banged up my nails. I had on a polygel set of extensions. I developed a greenie on 1 finger on my dominant hand from what I assume was a lifting from banging, water and the dirt I was scrubbing. It was a light green-ish color when I found it. It took 1-2 wks to clear up. And, I also learned a lot about nails from watching Suzie and have really enjoyed using her nail products.

This video is so relatable! I too began doing my nails as a result of covid. Been doing them for 2 years and had the greenies once. The acrylic I had used was dark, so I couldn't see that my nail was affected. I was just going to do a fill in, but my discovery of the green middle finger caused me to remove all the nails because I was paranoid that maybe it had happened on another finger as well. And I was right! My thumb also got some greenies :( Thankfully, greenies aren't contagious and easily fixable. It just looks a little gross but it will eventually grow out !

My natural nail got do short and damage even if it was only at the green stage.. I took the initiative to cut the green bit off and now my nail grew back and fine 🫠🫠🫠

Greenies come from what I call “microlifts”. These are tiny insinuations between the nail plate and the nail plate and the enhancement. The nail seems to be fine but it isn’t. I have only experience greenies with dip powder. I have had “macrolifts” where you can physically see the enhancement lifting up. I have found that this is actually a better scenario because in that case if water is getting in, at least you can slip a paper towel near the nail plate underneath the enhancement and dry it out and actually prevent the greenie until you can take care of the nail. I don’t even bother with dip anymore. Gel is better if you are in a profession where your hands are wet. And the best way I have found to prevent lifting and to get the nails to last is with builder gel applying in thin layers.

Nails cannot mold. Mold is a fungus; you can get a fungal infection on the nail, but mold cannot grow on the human body. Living people cannot mold. The only way a human can mold is if they are dead. As Suzie said, the green stuff you can see on a nail is not mold but a bacterial infection. I know you know this now from watching her video. I just wanted to clarify just in case there are others who don't know. I've seen so many people say it's mold right away when they see a greenie, but they don't even seem to know that a living human can't mold 😕 People need to get more educated about this sort of thing!

I am still learning and doing it myself you are my first point of reference. Funny enough my non dominant hand is usually the one that is not perfect and currently one nail has the greenies 😂 and they were painful for two days I am taking a break from acrylics until my nails heel.

I rarely get greenies anymore because I know how to prevent lifting but right now on two of my nails (right hand -pointer and middle finger) have damaged hypnochiums(cause I picked at them) causing the natural nail to separate from the nail bed which in turn caused greenies under my enhancements so I had to remove them :( This lady in the blue is beautiful and seems sweet 💙

In this coming moisture or bruising cause bruising can come up looking like this as well but mainly due to moisture and it doesn’t take but a microscopic amount on moisture to get underneath that nail 💅🏽 to create havoc!

Firstly, i love your channel! I've been doing my nails for a few months. I just discovered the greenies today, removed all of my nails! Now i'm sad and idk what to do? Should i buy a nail polish that gets rid of them? Wait for them to grow out? When can i do my nails again? Is it safe to do gel overlay over the greenies? Please help!

I watch your videos all the time and have learned soooo much. But for some reason I can't keep myself from getting the "greenies"! What to do? I have done gel and just started acrylics and can get them on very well. Watching you doing the counting has really helped making the right bead!

A few years ago I hurt my nails and because I had gel and color I didn't realize that my natural nails got badly hurt. This actually came to light only about 2 weeks later when I removed the product (which didn't lift) and saw blood under the 4 nails...😭 within a few days greenies showed up and it started to burn. It eas painful because my nails started to lift (natural nails, mind you) but the infection kept spreading to the the healthy new tissue. So I decided to dip my nails into white vinegar and I did this for 10 minutes 2 times a day for 3 days and the infection was gone.

Caught the greenies by wearing press-ons to try and grow my nails, since if I didn't have anything on my nails, I'd bite them off quite a lot. Caught them quite a few times which made me stop even trying for a long time (I don't have money to get gel nails professionally done and to maintain them). Rn thankfully I'm being able to grow them through self control, but I'd like learning how to properly put that gel protective layer on top of them. Just found your channel, might be a life changer, we'll see

Hi! I absolutely love your channel! Thank you for this valuable teaching you do! I am one who is naturally pretty creative with my hands and I cannot afford to have my nails done professionally very often…. So you have helped make it possible for me to learn the how too’s and I am enjoying saving money and learning a new skill! I am wondering if you have or could do an all encompassing over view of where to begin when a person knows nothing about this subject. I found that I have begun applying poly gel , buying products and jumping in before I even knew all the things I needed or why. I find that I need a video like “ watch this before you ever begin your nail journey “ . Maybe a 1, 2, 3 and so on series. Lead me through this confusing, awkward time please! Your so good at explaining everything! Maybe I just need to watch more videos but I seriously did not know where to begin. Even the terms you use were not familiar and I needed to know what the heck was an E- file….. or base coat etc….Also i love your comparison videos of the different applications ( poly vs acrylic for instance) but as a total beginner I need to be lead through an over view of one type so I know exactly what products to purchase and exactly where to begin. I tend to be confused as to which application your talking about through the video, just as a beginner. Not to say those are not GREAT and needed teachings….Thank you so much for all you do!!! One more question I have- why are my cuticles getting to raggedy and chewed up after doing a manicure. It is probably obvious that I am not careful enough or skilled enough with my e-file or hand files but if this only comes with practice I am afraid that this may be the thing that is the most discouraging and could lead me to giving up. Sad face. I doubt I will, i am having so much fun, but it hurts! Oh! Another question, I am confused as to when to fill, or when to remove and why. AND does poly gel expand as it is cured? It seams like after doing the pop it’s my nails are so thick! It takes me forever to file them down on the bottom. I have bought some paper forms and plan to try them at the same time as the pop it’s hope that helps. BTW love your soothing gentle and soothing teaching style. I watch before sleep- it’s great. Groom on Baby!

Thankfully, I caught mine early. I looked up the home remedies if you take a Q-tip and put a little bit of bleach on your finger and leave it for 10 seconds, and then scrub it off do that once or twice a day until it goes away Listerine helps a lot, same thing method as the bleach you can make a garlic salt, onion powder, vinegar, soak for your hand and leave it in there when it’s hot and then once it cools down, reheat it and do the other hand if you need to and that helps to get rid of it

Oh! It just popped into my brain! A practice schedule! Or a hand maintenance suggestion schedule??? I am amazed at how involved it is- your so right to stress “ the little things” make all the difference in your manicure looking professional AND lasting a long time!! Also: is there a time to say “ I need to remove and start over” when you are filling and maintaining your poly gel nails? Thanks again
@NailCareerEducation

Great question- you never need to remove your product unless it’s lifted or discoloured or you just don’t want that anymore. But let’s say you wanted French nails all the time you never have to take the unlisted product off of the nail when you were doing a fill so if you wanted to wear French nails for 10 years you never ever have to remove the original or existing nail unless it’s a problem

I got some greenies on my fingers when i was on vacation and did a super quick fill. I didnt have the right tools and the file i had sucked lol. So that was kinda my fault. I just buffed them and left them alone and they went away really quickly. in about 2 weeks or so they were almost back to normal. I think by then it was just the stain, but I didn't put any product on them just in case.

When I was in the Marine Corps I used to get acrylic, I didn't get the greenies but would get dirt trapped between my natural nail tip and the fake nail. I eventually switched to a new place and gel and didn't have that problem again.

Fun fact, the “lip” growing on the nail is actually the cuticle, while the skin we push back is the eponychium.
